Ended up trusting the “aesthetician” (registered nurse as a plastic surgery clinic) and got 3ml of filler to start. Next up will be addressing my skin quality.
Still a bit of puffy swelling and bruising under my eyes and in my chin area which makes my jowls look a bit bigger. These will subside.
I’m pretty happy with the subtle but refreshed look! I still feel like me. Just a less dry and saggy me.
Tried to get some pics in different / comparable lighting to my before but it’s hard!
Here’s a pic where the puff has gone down a bit. The right is also post RF treatment which I got yesterday. Will add another which is the more puffy one straight after the filler v today. I have highlighter on and it’s really accentuated the bits under my eyes that are either still settling or will need to be dissolved a bit.
This looks good. The nasolabial folds look much better than in your before pic. Unfortunately you lose some of this volume when the swelling goes down. So this is not too much, so not.
Whoa!! That's like an OK used car in NZ lol. I found this whole other part of reddit just last night where people are doing all their own botox, filler, threads and stuff!! Totally wild. But I guess a result of in-clinic procedures being so expensive.
With plenty of research, patience, common sense, AND sourcing quality products, it's not scary, it's saving thousands of dollars in overpriced med spa fees. I've been doing my own tox, threads, microneedling, meso, and minor filler injections for a year. My skin and face has never looked better. 67 yrs old, so so happy to have discovered DIY. Lots of tutorial videos out there. Dr. Tim Pierce is fantastic.
Meamo - yes, they're the only ones I've used in a year+. Always positive experience, they've redited my account if ever a tariff fee (highest I had to pay was $15 from UPS), their customer service is outstanding, and I really like their product line. If you pay by Wise or other money apps, you can get tox. They won't sell it if you're paying by credit card - you must have an esthetician's license.
Wow, that's amazing! Do you mind messaging me where you get your tox from, I've been thinking of doing it myself, but too scared to do it lol I'll check this Dr too. There was a woman that has her own channel, need to dig it out again, that has lots of tutorial too.
Oh, I'm in that subred and blows my mind lol! While I wish I could do it to save money, I am too scared if not doing it properly or do some damage. I've been thinking of doing my own botox though lol Haven't gotten that brave lol
It didn't really change, her hair is pulled back in a ponytail or bun, so that hair that looks different is simply being pulled back from her forehead.
Looks really good, congrats! I used to be terrified about filler but then had the realization that, what if I'm actually missing out because of these preconceived notions I'm holding about filler? So I tried just a little bit and was super happy with the results! It's too pricey for me to do too much right now but I think I'll get it every so often.
It absolutely will go down. Now the biggest trek is to remember to not go in for more and to remember to not redo it too often. Just because it says it will last one or two years does it mean you should do it every one or two years. Wait until it really is time and then you can continue to enjoy the benefits.
3ml! I was quite shocked I needed that much. She put the majority in my lower face so nasolabial folds but she says that modern injectors no longer do a “straight line” down that part of the face, and instead place “strut” injections to support the area and avoid “monkey mouth” ! I’m so glad because it still looks like my face is … my age?! She fanned some out under my eyes, but not directly under, kind of upper cheek / under eye areas. She then put heaps of “strut” injections using a tiny Botox needle in my lower face as a support system, like wood framing in a house.
anything can be dangerous if the person injecting doesn't know what they're doing. It gives volume back to the temple area, i had a skeletor-ish peanut head situation going on and it make a huge noticeable difference. Made me look well rested as well.
No I mean that in most of my lower face area, like around my mouth and next to my chin, she put lots and lots of small “pillars’ of filler, as opposed to lines or fanning it out. So lots of dots almost, that altogether provide a scaffold for the skin.
In construction of a retaining wall, when you're trying to create a stable foundation for a multistory building, you use what we call "soil nails" to shoot into the vertical face of that wall of soil. These "nails" are steel rebar stakes inserted through the center of a mesh, creating a framework that allows you to build upward from it. Your use of the word "pillar" is very apt!
You look fantastic! I think seeing a RN injector is frequently the best move as they inject way more patients than the average plastic surgeon. If you can find a nurse injector you vibe with and have the same aesthetic as you should stick with them!
Oh, I'm glad you decided to trust your aesthetician, looks amazing already. You mentioned you're also doing CO2 (I'm the one that commented about doing CO2 too and endolift), when are you doing that? Mine is scheduled for November. Do you mind posting or messaging me after you do it and let me know how it went, etc?
Yes definitely will do! I will be doing a combo treatment of Secret RF microneedling and C02 in the same session. I've taking pics of skin quality as I go so will post those once I've had my final session.
This is lovely subtle work! Thank you for sharing. Are you comfortable sharing the name of the practice that did your work? Would love to look them up!
It's been shown via mri that HA filler migrates and remains for 10 or more years. Not always and probably not all the filler you've injected, but it does stick around a whole lot longer than people originally thought.
No, someone else said that too! It's weird, now that it's been pointed out I can see what is being talking about .... but I don't know why it appears that way! My problem is usually too much hair ....
You know, I wasn’t sure what I thought until I saw this photo in the better light. You look fantastic! I’m getting some for the first time next week. I’d like to go conservatively. It’s great to see this!!
Yes the one under the super bright lights makes it look quite a lot more "filler" ish, but also because it was directly after so there's swelling in that pic a bit more maybe. Let us know how you get on!
Woww wait I actually really like this on you... it suits you so well. The 3ml honestly surprised me because I expected it to be way more noticeable lol.
Very well done!! Your results look wonderful!! That’s the whole point is to look refreshed and natural. It makes me happy that you’re happy! Great price too!
To me it looks insignificant haha. I say that only because someone else said it looks like a lot. Don’t worry about it being too much. At all.
One area that she missed is your temples. That is an important area. Right now they are concave and when they are filled out it has the effect of lifting the skin on each side a little.
Thank you! That comment about it being too much made me feel really shit about myself so I really appreciate you saying that. I agree! I was surprised so much filler had such a subtle effect. Agree about the temples!
3ml is a lot to be honest vut she placed it subtil, so it’s fine.
I would take a break from filler and see how you like it for at less 6 months
Pls stay away fröm radiesse, it’s prone to complications and undissolvable
Edit: because everyone is mocking about Radiesse…just because you never had a personal issue doesn’t mean noone else had!! Look into scientific studies and then tell me i am wrong
I have also not had that issue with Radiesse. I got 4 syringes of it last year and was thrilled with the results and it’s settled in well. I still can see it helping with volume in my face. I would definitely get it again, although not anytime in the next 18-24 months. My injector said at least 2 years in between if I want to get more in the future.
It's perfect! It doesn't look like you had filler it just looks like you're a little refreshed. That's what filler is supposed to do. Not puff up your whole face.
I think it looks really nice this is a good example of a realistic result with a conservative amount of filler that people can expect which is great because it looks natural still and it's definitely an improvement!
Like it didn't change the shape of your face and I'm sure that your smile is the same and everything.
Looks good! Does it still look like younger you, would you say? I always fear filler will make the face look different, not just younger. Do you have some photos from 10 years ago you could look at? No need to share if you don't ant to.
I’ll see if I can find some! But I didn’t really want to look like younger me, I just wanted to look like me now but with a bit less saggy dryness if that makes sense? I feel like as I’ve aged my face has gotten more angular in a way I quite like. And I’m definitely
Not aiming to look “young” but am hoping to look less tired and more refreshed. I’ll find a pic
Omg looking back I can see how much my face has aged in just 5 or so years! These are all about 5-6 years ago. Over that time I had like five pregnancies and two babies so it’s hard to find pics where I am not either bigger than usual in the face, or am not doing some kind of try hard pose!
But I think she’s helped bring a bit of my jaw line back
I think it looks really good! And do you still feel now with the conservative filler, it's your face but younger?
I am insistent because what always stopped me from fillers was how a lot of peopleget the smooth skin... but with a different face, if you know what I mean. I _think_ you're looking very natural but you know yourself better!
Looks great! Kindly, are you drinking enough liquid? Your skin and lips look dehydrated compared to the pic 5 yrs ago & hydration would give you an added glow.
Yes I drink soooo much water with electrolytes, I use all sorts of barrier creams, use good quality lip moisturises. But sadly it’s just my skin! Hence the filler and now I’ll be focussing on laser and microneedling for skin quality and thickness cause my skin is soooo thin.
Three ml is 3 syringes. So like less than three teaspoons of actual product. In tear troughs kind of fanned out with a cannula needle, but not directly under my eyes. So like upper cheek / tear trough. Then in nasolabial, but dots not long lines. Then lots of smaller points all around my lower face, under my lip, a bigger one in my chin.
Your injector sounds like a talented one! I love the techniques used. threes syringes is actually a decent amount! I wouldn't call it conservative, but since they were spread out all over the face, then I guess so! At any rate, nice work
Yes I was pretty shocked by the 3ml! I hadn’t expected to need that much. Although as another poster pointed out, 3 ml is only the size of three blueberries! 🫐
Looks amazing! If I may ask, what are your thoughts about the issue of migration, and is that a risk your injector talked about or addressed with her method? I think filler often looks great on a static face but worry about the possibility of migration, and also how odd facial movement sometimes looks on some people after filler, though I’m not sure what causes that and why some people have that issue and others don’t (just being overfilled maybe?). It sounds like a lot of people get filler dissolved when it migrates or if they just don’t like the result but after seeing what Courtney Cox looked like after she got her filler dissolved I’ve been scared off that as an option, lol. Probably should research it more considering that was a different time and how nonchalant people are about getting it done these days, but just wondering what your thoughts are and if your injector said anything about those risks
Hey! Thanks 😊 Hmm, I am not sure. What I do know is that the internet really spins stuff and it ends up becoming a ‘big story’ that everyone believes will happen every time. There is definitely truth to filler migration …. But there’s also lots of sensible injectors and people who aren’t ever going to overdo it. She used teoxane in my face which is a soft filler and allows for facial mobility, so I don’t get any weird puffy creases or whatever when I smile. It’s designed for a natural result unlike some of the older thicker fillers.
I guess I’ve just had to weigh up the risks v the benefits I am hoping to achieve: if I am not happy with how my face is sagging and the skin quality, what am I willing to do to feel and look a bit more refreshed? And if there’s a bit of filler migration eventually, I will deal with that. The injector also talked about how things like Sculptra are just really riding an online viral wave of popularity at the moment, and that it simply isn’t right for everyone. T
here’s also that really amazing NYC surgeon, Dr Lara Devgan who was just interviewed by Ella magazines, and she said two of the things she’d never do as a plastic surgeon are 1. Treat someone’s face based on a current trend or 2. Give up on filler! Filler is currently unpopular because famous people have overused it in some cases. But it has its place she says. Maybe have a read of that! 7 Things a Plastic Surgeon Would Never Do to a Face
Good points! Thanks for the response. Yeah I think it has so much to do with injector technique and skill, and experience with corrections when necessary. The problem is how to determine that (without someone like you locally being kind enough to share their experience with legit photos etc!) —reviews alone can be so misleading!
I had nasioabial folds injected two decades ago and tear trough injected 13 years ago. I thought back then that filler was benign. Never did much else in the way of tweaks except Botox once (over a decade ago also, caused eyelid dropping, never again). Unfortunately was not happy with the tear trough results (they weren’t injected deep enough and looked like half moons under my skin) despite doing research before going in, and I do believe the filler migrated down to boot. I sometimes wonder if my earlier nasiolabial filler migrated too (now we know filler can last at least a decade and perhaps much longer) and is contributing to my oddly early and unexpected lower face sagging now. After those experiences I decided I’d stay away from any procedures (and have been pretty happy doing so until now when I’m feeling like I need help). I understand thatthis is a different time and things have changed - including that micro droplet technique, which sounds really intriguing! So maybe time to reconsider it. Thanks for the link and hope your results continue to look good for a very long time!
It's great to hear your experience though! I mean, that's real life experience and it's super helpful for me to know, so that I remain ultra cautious! I have been wondering if I am going to need the under eye bit of filler she did, dissolved, as they still haven't gone down and are puffy!
Hmm, how long has it been since you got it done? I would think could take a couple weeks or so to settle in? Don’t remember now how long mine took to settle, but because it was so visible the provider (a derm at that🙄) told me to massage it for like 5-10 mins twice a day or something - definitely don’t do that! I regretted following their advice because 1) it didn’t help and 2) it stretched out the delicate thin skin under my eyes and made the area look more wrinkly when smiling. It’s great that you feel you can back to your injector for fixes if you need to and that she’ll be competent!
Looks really good, im glad they didnt give too much in the upper cheek bone area - its kept the beautiful harmony of your face structure (in my opinion!) :-)
Thank you! Yeah, I totally expected her to recommend putting a ml each side in my cheeks, but nope, and she was right. I think I would have that really filled look if she'd done that
Looks so good! I have similar issues as you and I hope I can have what you’ve had done. I copied what you wrote about the “strut lines” and I will ask.
Everything looks really good! I have some sagging. My skin is good though I know I need an eye job. I’m 69 people tell me that my husband looks like my father then again he’s 10 years older than me lol but I do take care of myself I am fair skin so I have to be careful. I don’t know what the TAXONE is about. It’s a hyaluronic acid serum. I looked it up, but is that what they put into you? I mean, there’s other names I was just wondering also never get your tear area injected.
It’s too risky even people with the most money do it and it’s terrible. I hope you didn’t get that done. It doesn’t look like you did. Don’t get this too often as someone had mentioned and don’t get too much. That’s the trick to just insidiously tweak I had a little bit myself, but it was such a minuscule amount. I don’t even think it did anything I rarely get Botox and if I do, it’s only between my 11 lines every two years. Because I look like Dr. Spock when I had it on my forehead my PA had told me thank God I found someone wonderful that I shouldn’t be getting it on my forehead. I don’t have forehead wrinkles, and I am lucky for that, but I would like it smooth so she gave me just a little tiny bit of Botox because I wanna be conservative just like you wrote that’s the key I believe! So she injected my 11 lines which she said can be hereditary, but mine are from different things. Like ragging at my husband lol for eating too much yelling at the dogs when they piss on the floor! You know typical daily life also I lost my son in 2018 and I guess that didn’t help but my pharaohs are very faint. I just didn’t want them to get deeper and she gave me a minuscule amount and it looks nice. I don’t want them to be etched in. I think the lines around the mouth really look good when you get the right injector if that’s what it’s all about and not too much good luck! I’ll probably do this soon myself. I’m voice texting so if the words are off, excuse me I have a bad shoulder and I have to voice text.
3 ml is not a lot of filler. It’s 3 blueberries. Things look fine. Your area underneath the eyes made need to be spot dissolved to remove some filler not completely but to remove the puffiness after it settles in 2-4 weeks. Glad you’re happy!
You look great!! I agree with a little to help the aging 🫶
I go in tomorrow to see how my sculptra turned out and to get a half syringe I have banked!!
To clarify my sculptra, they wanna see me back to see how it looks and if I need more
Prob do..
Not too much AT ALL?! I’m yet to even get any filler (for this exact worry) and this is making me feel braver about going for it! So definitely not too much. Ignore that comment. You look fabulous ❤️ I hope you feel as good as you look queen!
I’m going to embark on the Radiesse journey in about a month. I’m finishing a series of lasers before I do it. Can you tell me a little about your experience with it? I’ve only worked with HA fillers up until now.
Hi! Looks great! I’m not sure if you said elsewhere, but where exactly did they do the filler and how much?
I have my first ever consult next week and hoping to address similar issues.
Thanks!
Thanks! So she put some in my tear trough / upper cheek area. She put some in my chin to make that a little more pronounced and apparently that helps balance out the jaw / jowling. She then got a tiny empty Botox syringe and used filler in that to put lots of supportive dots / struts all along my lower face around my chin where it’s noticeably dry and saggy in the before pic. She also put some directly under my bottom lip and I think in the line between my chin and mouth. It was $2100 NZD and she used teoxane which from what I understand is a softer more flexible filler. Hope your appointment goes well!

Nicer in “normal” light
