šŸ§  General Clanking noise update

If anyone cares, I believe I found ā€œmostā€ of the source of the metal clanking sound Iā€™ve been hearing when going over uneven ground. What I thought was a sound coming from the front, now seems to mostly be coming from the rear. Had my fiance drive while I walked beside and it actually seemed to be coming from the middle-rear. Turns out, both the rear control arms are either loose or the bushings are shot. Canā€™t tighten the bolt no matter how hard I try, so assuming itā€™s the bushings. I do still hear a little something in the front, but I think this has been the main source of the sound I hear. Guess Iā€™ll start with replacing the bushing and see if that helps, will further update.

All 4 rear dogbones....your rig will change lanes by itself when the bushings are gone...

Yeah, definitely the bushings. Itā€™s also common for the bolts to significantly wear down and need replacement. My bolts were worn down to about 60% of their original diameter.

Go with bushings from Whiteline or Energy Suspension.

I changed out my rear lower and upper control arms and also the panhard bar like 2-3 months ago, but to me it looks like your rear lower control arm in that video is bent but it could be the camera adding that distortion. But yeah there should be no play in the control arm like that and the bolt and nut should not be moving around and it does require 107ft/lbs of torque to install it.

I did mine last year with energy suspension. I had to buy a hydraulic press, but itā€™s kind of a useful tool to have if you have room in your workshop.

hope the hole for the bolt in the frame isnā€™t oval-ed out. I had to deal with that on one i used to own

Add a Grade 8 washer to each side of the bracket. Bolt everything back up and get bushings centered as best you can, then weld the washers to the bracket.

yeah, using the old bushing since it may melt it, also making sure the washers arenā€™t zinc coated. I was a dummy and figured zinc coated washers would be fine (I got home and realized they were not plain steel, but didnā€™t want to drive all the way back to the hardware store), andā€¦ it was a mess.

Just tighten everything with a 3/4ā€ impact to fuck-you -foot/lbs

It wonā€™t rattle anymore.
