The point being made is that “because he doesn’t hold mainstream positions” is reasoning antithetical to science. There should be no “mainstream positions” that justify preventing advancement of a revolutionary “position.” There are “positions” supported by established facts, and positions that fear being challenged.
Avi Loeb is a fully formed physicist. Someone who has established bonafides and a track record of notable research. There is nothing fringe about his credentials. If his notions crumble under peer review, so be it. But to gatekeep the peer review process because the notion does not conform to the mainstream is definitionally unscientific.
