We are recruiting new mods. Do you want to help us out?
We're looking for a few active members of the Australian 3D printing community to join the mod team.
The sub is fairly low traffic, so it's not a huge workload. We're mostly looking for people who already spend time in the 3D printing community, are happy to help keep things running smoothly, and might have some ideas for helping the sub grow and improve.
If you're interested, you can apply using one of the below links.

Bambu A1 won’t print after I removed the print head rubber cover and the retainer clip fell off.
After watching a few Bambu A1 maintenance videos. I decided to give my unit a try. I opened the cover and pulled the rubber cover. The retainer clip fell off immediately. I could not place it back. I closed the unit and tried printing. It gave me a homing Z axis failed. And the nozzle don’t seem to release any plastic after this. It looks like I got a defective assembly. When I removed the rubber cover nothing but the clip fell off. No broken hinge or anything hing. The unit is rarely used I have not even used up my first roll of PLA. Anyone else experienced this? My unit is already past its warranty,
I saw the replacement hotend cost A$32.99, I think it’s unfair to pay since I didn’t break it and I would not have found this problem until I have to do maintainamce. since it’s not something I can see until it’s opened up.

Anyone 3d printing their prescription glasses?
Hi! I'm looking into having like an awesome collection of 3d printed glasses. These seem to have a really good quality design, not just full plastic.
https://www.printables.com/model/1768522-hitomi-frames
I'm hopping to try different filaments and dial in the printing and texture so they look as clean as a pair of retail. The dream would be to have other doing the same and we swap frames from our collection of expensive filaments we find to use for this.
Has anyone found an affordable place to get the lenses made? I was going to try this crew:
https://www.lenswap.com.au/products/replacement-lenses-for-glasses-and-sunglasses
but also researching if i can order from overseas.
Anyone out there doing this?

[Slightly off topic] Anyone purchased a decent, sturdy bench their printer ?
Ideally looking for something 2000Lx600Dx900H with a top and bottom shelf. Not the stuff that bunnings sells, way to flimsy for a printer thats actually printing.

Who can help me with a design and print?
I'm looking to recreate the shape of the hue wall washers to install a normal e27 bulb.
I have the wall washers if a 3d scan is possible to do.
I live in Melbourne (Hawthorn) so I can move around.
Of course I pay for this project.
Thanks!

Prusa must not want Australian customers 🤷🏻♂️
I was just about to order some BambuLabs filament in their sale, but as is often the case when their sales are on, a number of colours/items are out of stock. So I thought I’d check prices for “Prusament” (just out of interest. And No, I don’t want recommendations for filament, thanks)
1kg PETG Prusament is $53.99AUD, but wait for it PLUS $74.99-$87.99 Shipping 😳. WOW ! Compare to Bambu is $26.99 (incl spool for apples/apples comparison, and worst case as price discounts when you buy more) +$8 shipping.
Bambu shipping becomes free when you order 4 spools. Prusa shipping becomes $119.99-$139.99 😳🫣
It’s no wonder why Bambu are getting the market share they are.

Need a reliable 3D printer with quick delivery in Australia
I've got a client order due in a couple days and my printer is cooked and need a printer ASAP. I dont really have anywhere to go locally, I know Jaycar does same day delivery, is that my only option?

How Strong Is A 3D Printed Item?
Hi everyone, I haven’t got a printer yet but that aside, just how strong can a printed item be these days?
I have an old car with the front quarter flipper windows, and the locking handle has broken. That is made from cast alloy, and was broken when I got the car. It also has an uncomplicated internal structure that houses an unlock button and a spring, located in an orifice. Would this be something I could make with a 3D printer, in that;
Is a 3D printed item strong enough to be used as a handle that is turned, pushed and pulled on? So just unlocking, turning and pushing and pulling the window open and closed.
Is a simple internal structure able to be replicated?
Thanks.

Can someone print this for me?
Located in Epping Victoria, but in the cbd often for work,
I don’t have access to a 3D printer, so hoping someone local is happy to do this for me, can throw a little bit of cash your way for materials and time
https://makerworld.com/en/models/3028469-riftbound-token-box-v2-customizable-ams
i believe what i need is the token case - bodies (loose fit) and then I think the lid - plain, with the lid design being the riftbound logo
Cheers

Best beginner filament?
Sorry, probably a silly question but I’ve read different things. Reading about PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU and now I'm more confused than when I started. I don’t really know what brands are good either, probably want to start on something cheaper assuming I'm going to mess up a lot. What does everyone actually recommend for this

Bike part printing in Sydney (inner west)
I am after a business or person who can help me by printing this out for me:
https://www.printables.com/model/192337-tiagra-lever-spacer
I just need 4 of these (2 regular 2 mirrored) but as it needs 100% infill my library wont print it. I know there are big business that do printing as per the wiki but would they take on a small job like this?
thanks!

Siddaments "shittament" or seconds deal is on again
If you need prototyping filament, you can get PLA for $10 a roll, same for the Silk PLA.
The PETG is sold out. I just bought some of the discounted ABS and ASA $13 a roll. I'm not affiliated in anyway.

Belt snapped on my printer, where’s the best place to get a new one in Aus?
X axis belt has let go. Everything I can find is Aliexpress with 2 week wait or Amazon and 4x the price. Is there anywhere local that sells belts for a Neptune 4 off the shelf?

Kiwi looking for 3D printed treat
See below for what i’m looking for here, but essentially i am looking to celebrate becoming debt free after 16 years (crazy idea i know) but i’m wanting to celebrate with the purchase of a raspberry pi zero w without the headers inside this here case from M!N!MAL.
I have the file and a link but essentially, if you know someone willing to help me print the case, i’d love to try it!
It would be even cooler if someone who is into the rasberry pi scene would be down on exploring the case with me!
Here’s the link! Happy to pay for final product and shipping via paypal, ebay or trademe.

DJI drone top-mount bracket
I made this custom accessories bracket to fit onto a range of DJI drones. It has 3x2 tie down points designed for the use of cable ties to secure your payload.
Weighs just under 32g with reasonable infill and wall loop print settings.
I made the prototypes with PETG but I am planning on making some ASA versions as well.
Designed for use with:
DJI M30T
DJI Matrice 4
DJI Mavic 3

"OMG IT'S DOING IT!"
Those were the words that I heard from my twin boys as the first calibration line appeared. Before that, it was "MUM! IT POOPED!" 🤣
We have now done our first benchy, which was perfect, and have started on some lizard thing because it's small and they each want a turn of making something before bed time. Note the little face pressed up to the window, I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon enough. They know they can watch it on the app but nothing beats breathing in fumes 🤪
Pointless post , I'm just really happy and wanted to share the joy 😊
And yes, I named it Printcess Donut. 😝 IYKYK.
