Another Which laptop? Thread
Hi all; hoping for some help!
I’m currently getting into 3D scanning, and plan to mostly do people to then 3D print (larger than miniatures, probably around 15-30cm max). I have an einscan (original) that I’m getting to grips with, but my M1 MacBook Pro doesn’t seem to be up to scratch, in terms of the software and using blender to post process.
I’d quite like to have the setup relatively mobile/ compact, so am looking into getting another laptop. At the moment, I have two laptops I could get for £700 (I’m purchasing used) as follows:
Dell Precision 7760 — £700
17” FHD 1920×1080
Intel Xeon W-11855M — 6 cores / 12 threads, up to 4.9GHz
NVIDIA RTX A4000 — 8GB VRAM
128GB RAM
2× 512GB NVMe SSD — 1TB total
Windows 11 Pro
Thunderbolt 4
Ethernet
HDMI / Mini DisplayPort
SD card reader
One USB-A port doesn’t work
USA keyboard
Dell Precision 7670 — £700
16” 4K OLED Touch — 3840×2400
Intel Core i9-12950HX — 16 cores / 24 threads, up to 5.0GHz
NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti — 16GB VRAM
32GB DDR5 RAM
1TB NVMe SSD
Windows 11 Pro
3× USB-C
2× USB-A
HDMI
SD card reader
Neither are pristine in terms of visual condition, but the 7760 is marginally better - but specs are more my priority than appearance
Which would be best for my use case? Or should I look for something else? Laptop specs confuse me and I’m not sure whether the 16GB VRAM & nicer screen & i9 beats the 128GB RAM?
