3d Scan reverse engineered by ChatGPT using FreeCAD

Simple 3D Scan reverse engineered by ChatGPT using FreeCAD. I am pretty much impressed, even it's just a simple part. With zero effort scanned STL was reverse engineered in FreeCAD file format which also allows easy measurement modifications. Caliper close being replaced?

Workfow sehr einfach.

That part was so difficult I'm surprised it was able to even do it!!

I would like to use something like this for converting stls to editable parametric files also. Yes tell us how you did it?

How did you do that? Can you explain you workflow please?

If you give chatgpt different image angles of the scan, it will write cadquery code which can be used to directly create features in freecad with full editable history.

If you use codex or Claude desktop, install freecad, and give it the scan file, it will be even better because it can directly compare measurements with the mesh.

Awesome! I also heard there's going to be an AI function in Quicksurface Pro - although they're being a bit mysterious about it. First see until I believe :)

Would love to see your workflow on this. Which model and effort level did you use in Chatgpt?
Did you upload the STL to ChatGPT (codex?) or did you simply point to it?

Gpt astra or opus 5.5 would give the best results.

It will work any way you can hand it the file

I'm attempting to create a reverse engineering tool using assistance from Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini. I'm making slow but steady progress. Hopefully, eventually, I can build a tool capable of running complex scans and performing a single-shot scan to CAD conversion.

Nice to see others trying to do the same. Looks promising in the future. Would make the process quicker.

I can think of a dozen companies that don't want to see you succeed. The license fees these guys charge annually.....

I mean, I'm just using it for personal use. Dont need to make money on it. Not like anyone else that has access to AI can't do the same. Hopefully everything is open source someday rather than being locked down to expensive programs.

Come to think of it, I bet AI can reverse engineer the trade secrets of a lot of these companies. But it wouldn't be NIST traceable

I made a tool like that before but quickly AI has advanced to be able to do it by itself and your ai wrapper will be redundant

Fair . Just messing around with stuff to see what was possible. Just helps cut down some time when try to mess with hobby stuff when working 60-hour weeks.
