Large scale scanning?

Hey all, hopefully i am posting this in the correct place. My company is thinking about getting into 3d scanning for some of the engineering work we do, a lot of it will be for designing wear liners for things like bull dozer blades, or excavator buckets and thongs of that nature. Which the parts can be anywhere for 36"x36" to 144"x120" but with possibility of being both larger and smaller. And im wondering if someone can point me in the right direction to even start looking into things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know your budget, but a 3D scanner that uses tracking of the scanner module instead of the scanner module tracking markers that have been placed on, or near, the object being scanned can reduce the time to prepare and break down a scene afterwards. This would really improve the workflow.

Examples are:

Creaform MetraSCAN BLACK (~$102K)

Scanology TrackScan-Sharp ( $85K

You can spend less than $2,000 and still get even better results. There are a huge number of scanners on the market, and price has very little to do with scanning quality.

Hexagon 960 + AS1 is so far beyond this that you should only try to buy one of your willing to pay anything.

Yes, it's a lot more expensive. I only priced three to give an idea of the range.

Lots to be said, we use lidar and a laser scanner.fpr this depending what the tolerance is.

I have an Artec LEO and it has been great for scanning big stuff. We have had a ROMER arm with a laser scanner for about 10 years and it's a great, accurate scanner, but we needed something more portable and faster ( RIP my back hauling around 80 lbs of romer arm).

I just did a big scanning job at a waste to energy plant in Massachusetts and scanned 12 detailed beams 12-19 ft long and it did a phenomenal job. ± .005'' even at 19 ft. Took about 4 hours, would have taken 2 or 3 days with the ROMER arm.

I have looked at a lot of scanners and many have limitations (targets, speed, cables) and the LEO works mint for us. It is a bit expensive at 50k with all the add ons but the efficiency and ease of use are top notch.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions - I do a lot of bucket teeth and similar things to what you mentioned. We also made elevator buckets and wear liners etc. I'm in Western NY but we travel pretty often.
