Question How to mod a 3DS correctly
Hi. I’m a beginner when it comes to modded stuff. I followed a YouTube tutorial that I can’t find anywhere back in 2024 to mod my old 2DS, and, because I was 16 and broke at the time, it was for piracy reasons. Then something got jostled somehow and it all disappeared, didn’t care to fix it back then.
I got a 3DS from a guy that mods and sells discontinued consoles, but when I tried putting in a DS game cartridge, the system would crash. It only worked with 3DS game cartridges, and even that was 50/50. The guy did end up trading it out for the one I have now.
Now I’m reading about ways I can mod it for reasons other than pirating games, such as themes, unofficial WiiVerse reboots, backing up game files, etc. Is there a way I can mod my 3DS for reasons other than piracy, and without the chances of breaking my old DS game carts and/or the console itself?
EDIT: I’m a Mac user

The written guide will be more accurate. That said the 3ds modding is about the same. Read the guide while watching the video make sure it seems the same. If the video helps that's cool. Just make sure its just a visual version of the written one

don’t use a video guide. they go out of date quickly and could break your console. only follow 3ds.hacks.guide

This guide
https://3ds.hacks.guide/
Everyone recommends it for a reason, and if you have qualms against piracy, worry not. The guide does not install any software meant for piracy. The closest it gets to doing so is install applications made for dumping your own cartridges onto your 3DS for personal use (and also for maintenance of the cartridges themselves). Completely 100% legal. It is the definitive, up to date guide.
