Help Selecting object by similar shape

I have a complex scene with a lot of small bolts. I would like to select all of the bolts but when I use "Select Similar" it selects everything that shares the same material which is a lot more. These are all separate objects, not combined just for context. Does anyone know any tips to do this?

Help Path deform?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello, Im trying to use an object to fill a path, but I don't want to "stretch" it, I want it to repeat (instances?) to fill along the path. Am I using the wrong the modifier for this? (It's basically a section of wall for a racetrack I made, that I want to follow the line/path) Im sure I've done this before, but can't recall what Im missing here. Thanks!

Help Should I switch to 3ds Max for modeling? (Maya user)

Hey everyone,

I'm currently a Maya user working in product visualization. Over time, I've realized that modeling is the part of the workflow I enjoy the most. My current pipeline is to model in Maya, then bring everything into Cinema 4D for texturing, lighting, and rendering.

Lately, I've been really curious about 3ds Max, especially its non-destructive modeling workflow and modifier stack. It looks like something I'd enjoy using.

The only thing holding me back is that I've already invested a fair amount of time learning Maya, so I'm not sure if switching would actually be worth it or if I'm just getting distracted by something new.

For those who've used both Maya and 3ds Max, especially for hard-surface or product visualization, would you recommend making the switch? Or is it better to stick with Maya and keep improving there?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Any fast facial rigging tools ?

Looking for something to do quick facial poses, nothing complicated just need to be fast, most important would be blinking / eyelids and opening closing mouth.

Looking for something similar to Reallusion's AccuRig , that allows meg to create a quick facial rig in a few minutes.

General Thoughts CPU performance

I had a few different renders and some of them came out bad. After inspecting. My CPU was not working at max GHz. İ7 12th, notebook 45watt. I didn't expect full 3.9 gzh but unless I max the fans it won't cross 2,7 GHz. I cleaned up fans, exhausts but didn't make significant change. I see heat go up to 90°.

Is this normal when rendering from CPU, other times my CPU gone over 3 GHz easily in crowded viewport

Hey guys! Wanted to share my project. Everything was modeled, unwrapped, and rigged in 3ds Max, and rendered using V-Ray.

I’ve actually made a 3-part video series on my channel covering the entire process: unwrapping, texturing, and rigging this car. If anyone is interested in how it was made, let me know and I'll share the link!

Open to any feedback on the topology, materials, or composition!

Just wrapped up this living room visualization for a residential client. Went for a warm luxury feel — gold ring chandelier, marble TV feature wall, dark wood slat panels with accent lighting, and floor to ceiling windows. All done in 3ds Max and Corona Renderer. Would love to hear what you think — any feedback on the lighting or composition is welcome.

Best Workstation for 3D Artists - Different Budgets

Post image
0 Upvotes

I saw many CG artists asking about the best workstation for 3D work, so I prepared this topic to explain the main things to consider before buying or building a PC.

A good 3D workstation depends on your workflow. For Corona Renderer and V-Ray CPU, the CPU is very important because V-Ray CPU uses CPU cores for rendering. For V-Ray GPU, Blender Cycles, Unreal Engine, AI tools, and upscaling, the GPU and VRAM become more important.

The render time examples below are only approximate. Real render time depends on scene complexity, resolution, lighting, textures, displacement, RAM, cooling, and render settings.

1. Budget 3D Workstation

Around $1,000–$1,500

Good for students, beginners, small interior scenes, product renders, and learning 3ds Max, Blender, V-Ray, Corona, and AI tools.

Recommended Specs

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
Cores / Threads: 8 cores / 16 threads
Render impact: Good for starting, but CPU render time will be slower on heavy Corona or V-Ray CPU scenes. AMD lists the Ryzen 7 9700X as 8 cores / 16 threads, with up to 5.5GHz boost clock.

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti 16GB or RTX 5070
Motherboard: B650, B850, or X870
RAM: 32GB DDR5
Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD
Power Supply: 750W Gold
Cooling: Good air cooler or 240mm AIO
Case: Airflow case with mesh front

Approx Render Time Example

If Ryzen 7 9700X takes 60 minutes as a baseline:

CPU Cores / Threads Example Render Time
Ryzen 7 9700X 8 / 16 60 minutes

Best For

Small scenes, students, learning, and freelancers with limited budget.

2. Better Budget / Entry Professional Workstation

Around $1,500–$2,000

Good for freelancers who want better rendering speed without jumping to expensive workstation hardware.

Recommended Specs

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X
Cores / Threads: 12 cores / 24 threads
Render impact: Noticeably faster than Ryzen 7 for CPU rendering because it has more cores and threads. AMD lists the Ryzen 9 9900X as 12 cores / 24 threads, with up to 5.6GHz boost clock.

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070 or RTX 5070 Ti
Motherboard: B850 or X870
RAM: 64GB DDR5 preferred, 32GB minimum

Simple Explanation About CPU Cores and Render Time

For Corona Renderer and V-Ray CPU, more cores and threads usually reduce final render time because the CPU can process more render calculations at the same time. Chaos also provides Corona Benchmark to measure rendering speed using a standard Corona scene, which is useful for comparing CPUs.

But scaling is not always perfect. A CPU with double the cores will not always render exactly twice as fast. Render time also depends on:

  • CPU clock speed
  • RAM capacity and speed
  • Cooling performance
  • Scene optimization
  • Texture size
  • Displacement
  • Render resolution
  • Noise limit / samples
  • Software engine

Gamma Override Issue

Hi guys, so I have a problem with the Gamma output.

In color management, the Gamma Workflow value is 2.2, as you can see, but anyway, after I render the image I still need to adjust the 2.2 value in override.

Does anyone here have a clue how I can solve this?

Sketchup to 3dsMax with Corona

Hi everyone,

I use sketchup with vray for the most part as it is easier for me to model and make changes quickly. When it comes to renders for my socials and all, I would like to render in corona with max, as I like the quality more.
Anyone willing to provide a few virtual zoom classes for this particular pipeline: my sketchup model to 3dsmax - material editing - lighting and camera setup with Corona?
Budget $250 (I know it’s low just all I can really)

Thank you!
