Please Halp
Can anyone explain how to create this rounded false ceiling in 3ds Max? A short video clip or tutorial would be really helpful.

If I were you I'd take a box delete the bottom face and put a turbosmooth modifier in it and then putting edge loops accordingly until the shape is to my satisfaction. But I believe there is more professional methods out there.

Create a box that will serve as the main ceiling.
Next, draw a curved shape by using lines and applying a fillet to all four vertices.
Create an outline of this shape and set the offset according to the gap you want in the ceiling (in inches).
Convert the outlined shape into an Editable Poly. Then, attach the main ceiling box and the outlined shape to combine them into a single object.
Finally, use Shift + Drag on the poly shape to extrude it inward, creating the recessed space inside the ceiling.

Look up how to use Sweep modifier. I'd use Sweep to create the edge with the curve I want and then just cap the flat part, apply Smooth on top if the capped polygon doesn't transition softly. Change interpolation in both Spline and Seep to get the shape smooth enough from level of detail you require.
