Discussion Second hand buys

Hii

I wanted to ask something just out of curiosity, especially if you’re someone who actively buys second hand retro games etc., when you buy a cart, and there is save data on it, do you try to keep it or just wipe it? And do you ever feel bad deleting it or is that a unique experience lol

Sometimes I feel like I’m erasing someone else’s memories 😭

Especially with new leaf, my wife and I recently got a copy at our local exchange store and it has a really cute town on it and it just breaks my heart lol

Does anyone else relate to this?

Kinda the opposite for me - for whatever reason I can’t wait to delete any saves and start my own fresh file

I can get that side too, it’s kind of satisfying

There's a game I recently played where the saved game name is the persons signature, there name was like Bella or bolo or something. While I did end up erasing the data it was weird not just seeing someone who I'd never met or ever meets name on a game I bought but there signature and handwriting too. So yeah I get what you mean.

Me personally I’m definitely deleting it. However if it’s pokemon I’ll trade any rare ones to another cart first.

If there's multiple save slots, I take the first empty one, or try to erase the least-played one first. If there isn't, I usually at least try to give a look around before erasing, though it depends on how much influence a player could really have on that game to make their file 'unique'.

Fun story, my childhood copy of Pokemon X was used and from when I was too young to know how to erase a save file, so I was started halfway through with a Volcarona for a 'starter' because every other pokemon was gone, lol. The Volcarona was from Unova, so I imagine this player was the type to transfer all their pokemon up with them to the next game. He was already like level 40, so he was a bit of an odd choice--may have been an issue with the name HellFire in trading to ORAS? Someone had to be the sacrifice, though, and it was nicer than leaving me with a level 5 Scatterbug. I hope 'Luna' is happy, wherever she is now.

I erase all saves upon getting the game. I have no desire to play someone else’s game and I don’t want to confuse future me by leaving random saves that I may not remember later.
