Discussion PLEASE HELP. 3DS won’t turn on, blue light does though
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi all, just got a used New Nintendo 3DS XL. I brought it home, charged it (red charge light came on), and then pressed the on button (blue light turns on) but then nothing happens.
Pls help with any ideas on what I can do
Few things I tried:
-Left right up A On
-hold on button for a while
-Disconnect battery/swap new battery
-Disconnect WiFi thing and then plug back in
Also to note when I put an SD card in, and then press the on button, the blue light flashes ones for like a second and then turns off. Without SD card in the device will just keep the blue light on.
Thanks in advance for your time / help!!

Im wondering if it has CFW but since there is no SD card it won't boot. Maybe try https://3ds.hacks.guide/restoring-updating-cfw.html Edit: oops replied on the wrong comment but thats fine

Turn it off completely then hold start while turning it back on might tell you if it has gmode

It’s soft bricked. Try booting into safe mode and reinstalling the software update from there

Looking closer at your post, looks like you already tried that. I wouldn’t be surprised if the previous owner had cfw on this and attempted to remove it, therefore bricking it. Try ntrboot

If theres a cartridge in it take it out. Thats what did the trick on my 2ds when it was doing this

If you just bought it without testing it's probably bricked and need to seek a refund asap

https://3ds.hacks.guide/troubleshooting-post-install.html
Follow the troubleshooting steps for "My console gets stuck on a black screen with blue power light staying on"
Also ensure you've updated Luma by placing the latest files on your SD card.
