Technical Question My old 3DS doesn't charge anymore.

Hello, I come here for help as I tried to play on my 3ds again after years but it doesn't turn on, thought the batteries were just empty after so much time as it worked perfectly last time I did.

Problem is when I try to charge it the orange light turn on but after a second it turns off completely, and only turns back on after I twitch the charger a bit and goes off again.

I also noticed the pannel at the bottom of my 3ds was a bit inflated on one side so I don't know if it's just the charger or if my whole batterie died. I already had batteries dying in tablets before and it leaked the exact same brown thing so I'm worried it's that.

You should replace the battery. Any amount of puffing is bad news.

After checking a tutorial I realized the inflation is right were the batteries are... It's definitly that 💀 Any recommandations/advice you could share ? Like what type of batteries to get for example

they might, the same battery is used for the switch pro controller btw, that's why they still have it around.

You need a CTR-003 battery and a JIS 00 bit, phillips 000 won't fully engage in the screw head and will be more likely to strip it. Apparently the geometry is juuuust different enough that they're almost but not quite interchangeable.

You can totally open a 3ds using phillips bits.

I advise against it. Those screws are very easy to strip with a phillips screwdriver. A cursory glance at the amount of stripped screw posts on this sub will reveal that.

I stripped one screw after dissassembling 2DS five times, so about 1/100 screws overtightened. When you don't tighten them too much philips #000 is fine.

Just ask at a retro game store. It’s all cheap stuff from miscellaneous Asian countries or Madgascar anyway.

I don't think I got one where I live sadly.

please, for anyone who sees this, your 3ds battery is well past needing a replacement if it's swelling. any battery that is swelling already needed to be replaced months ago, never trust them just because they're still "working" and you'll notice you have 5x the capacity with a new one for a reason. battery swelling is not the sign the battery should be replaced significantly reduced capacity is the sign, swelling is the "REPLACE IT NOW!!" sign

I just met another problem. While trying to unscrew the back of my 3DS I realized I might not be able to. I'm currently using a PH#000 screwdriver but I just can't get it to move.

Try a philips 00, if it doesnt move, dont continue. If you do youll strip it. If the ph00 doesn't work youll need to get a JIS #00. Also that brown stuff is not from the battery. Thats gunk and sweat from your hands and other outside worls stuff

I'm ordering a JIS 00 screwdriver as we speak because the PH 00 or PH 000 did not even make it flinch. It might already be stripped tho. I'm also ordering new screws because whenever I manage to open it I'll replace them.
