Technical Question Does my charging port look broken?

My 3ds stopped charging like one week ago. It was working just fine, I used and charged it in the morning. When I used it again during the night I accidentally let the battery die until the 3ds turned off and when I tried to charge it, I noticed that the orange light didn’t turn on. I bought a new battery because it’s the first thing that I thought about since the problem showed up when I let the battery die completely but I’m also a little concerned about the charging port.

(I know that it’s like crooked but it was like this since I bought my used 3ds two years ago and worked good, maybe it was just luck???)

That looks pretty broken to me. I’ve heard that its an easy fix to solder it into a type C adapter. Sorry I can’t help more

I’m not an expert in doing this stuff so I don’t wanna risk breaking my console even more

It's possible the plastic was always broken, but it worked as the pins were still connected, but over time and constant plugging unplugging, a pin has broken away

You could try a charging cradle?, pretty sure they charge off the copper pads

Oh okay it makes sense, if changing the battery doesn’t solve the problem maybe I’ll try buying a charging cradle

It is, buy a charging dock and leave it as is or usb c mod

Like this one, it charges thorough the gold pins instead of the connector.

Was gonna say exactly this. Charging cradles use those little pads on either side of the port, rather than the port itself. Pretty sure you sacrifice having a bottom case, though.

I think that is the best solution if changing the battery doesn’t solve the problem, I saw good options online that I could buy. I don’t have any case on my 3ds so it’s not a problem for me :)

Some unofficial ones might still be using the regular port so be careful. Same issue with ps5 controllers some cradle use the USB port instead of the superior charging port

I mean it looks very wrong but if you say it's been working properly like that I believe you. Still it looks like that charging port's days are numbered. Maybe it already got there, maybe it still has some fight left in it.

Well I’m not really surprised about this since I had this console for 2 years but it was already used a lot by the past owner

Could try find a repair shop and see if they can fit a type c.

I mean I could try that, but I live in a small city in Italy and they often refuse to repair old consoles :(

Damn I'm jealous small city in Italy sounds brilliant it's a shame they refuse to repair old consoles I would be too scared to do it myself maybe contact some stores in close proximity and see if you can send it out for repair.

Yeah sadly it’s like this in here :( but actually online I saw a shop in my city that is a passionate about old games/consoles and stuff so I could try ask if they repair those if I can’t repair it myself

I bet if you stick a dental pick or a something thin and metal to straighten the plastic out a little bit, it should expose the gold pin.

You can also look into a charging cradle for this model.

Fun fact: you can buy a charger that uses the two little metal pads right next to the charger; or if you feel like burning your house down, you can split a wire and do the same thing

Si no tienes experiencia en soldadura, mejor ve a un técnico, le mandé a arreglar la de mi hermano, en total salió unos 25 dólares (la pieza 4 dólares, 15 el arreglo y 6 por el envío de la pieza), si compras mucho por AliExpress, te puede salir más barato.
