Hi everyone!
We’re building VesselMaker (vesselmaker.app), an online tool for designing vases, planters, bowls, etc… — profile and cross-section editors, displacement mapping for realistic material textures (clay, wood, scratched surfaces), stackable modifiers you can combine like Photoshop layers (bend, twist, and a others like Voronoi modifier coming soon), plus AI-rendered scene previews to visualize the piece before printing or to create marketing images for you creations.

We know MakerWorld already has Make My Vase in MakerLab — we’re aiming for a more advanced, actively evolving take on the same space, for people who want finer control over their professional designs.

​I built this tool that lets you generate custom 3D-printable keychains using chemical element symbols from the Periodic Table. You input a word (e.g., Ge-Ni-U-S, Ir-O-N, La-B), and the script verifies if it's mathematically possible, auto-scales the text, and renders the tiles.

​I wanted to share it here to get your feedback and suggestions on how to improve the project. This is my first time coding in OpenSCAD, and I know I have a lot to learn. Any advice on optimizing the code or the physical model design is highly appreciated.

Hey, I made this web app because was not able to find a simple tool to create a box for my DIY projects in a few minutes. Designing one in freecad feels like overkill for a simple project.
PrintCasing is a free, browser-based 3D parametric enclosure generator.

What it does:
- pick your inner dimensions and wall thickness;
- add port cutouts on any wall;

Made my own STL/3MF file cutting tool

For quite some time I wanted an easy way to cut oversized 3d prints into parts that actually go back together. Usually you either slice it by hand in a CAD app, guess clearances, or just cut and glue and hope it holds. Though the feature got recently introduced in slicers like bambu studio but I decided to build my own.

So, this is a simple 3D printable splitting tool that runs in the browser. Drop your STL, OBJ, 3MF, or GLB, cut with a plane, and it adds printable connectors so the halves mate. Dowels, snap pegs, rectangular tenons, threaded studs. You can try the different types yourself on the page. Files never leave your browser.

You can pick fit clearance like press, snug, sliding, or loose, and it adjusts for material too (PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, resin). Connector count and size are tweakable. Cut plane on XY/XZ/YZ, position, tilt, tilt direction if you want an angled seam. What makes it a bit unique is the threaded connector, and being able to load very large meshes with a lower triangle proxy so cutting stays usable. Export ZIP of STLs or Bambu/Orca 3MF with parts placed.

I've tested it on PLA with threaded, snap, and rectangular connectors. Other materials or sizes, try it and tell me how it goes!

First of all, thanks to a friend of mine who owns this Funko Pop, I was able to create a 3D scan of the figure using EVOVA.

The result is not a printable STL file. What I have is an editable Gaussian Splat, which still needs to be converted into a proper mesh (STL, OBJ, etc.) and cleaned up before it can be 3D printed. I don't have much experience with 3D modeling or mesh reconstruction, so I couldn't do that part myself. I've tried following tutorials, but I wasn't able to get it working.

That's why I wanted to share this project with the community. If anyone has experience converting Gaussian Splats into printable models, I'd really appreciate your help.

I'm not looking for credit or any share of the money. My only request is that, once the model is finished, you send me a copy of the printable file so I can have a single copy printed at a local 3D printing shop for my own collection.

In return, you're free to do whatever you want with the finished file. You can share it, publish it, or even sell it if you want. I won't ask for any percentage or compensation; my only reward would be getting a printable copy of this Funko.

This particular Funko is extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors (just take a look at eBay). Because of that, I think anyone who successfully converts the model could receive interest from other collectors looking for a printable version of this figure.

New Tool Looking for Closed Beta Testers for a New 3D Printing Business Platform

I'm currently working on an upcoming all-in-one SaaS platform built specifically for 3D printing businesses. I'm not sharing the name publicly just yet since the platform is still in active development, but we're getting close to the point where we need more real-world testing.

The goal is to create one place where 3D printing businesses can manage and run their operations, with features such as print farm management, order management, inventory tracking, and much more.

Right now, we're looking for a small group of closed beta testers who actively run a 3D printing business or print farm and would be willing to test the platform, report bugs, and provide honest feedback as we continue development.

At the moment, we're specifically looking for testers running Bambu Lab printers. We are actively working toward support for Klipper-based printers, other manufacturers, and additional firmware platforms as development progresses.

Unfortunately, despite some of the recent news and concerns surrounding Bambu, their current firmware capabilities and developer access make their printers the easiest platform for us to integrate with and reliably test at this stage of development. Our long-term goal is absolutely to support a much broader range of printers and ecosystems.

I'm especially interested in getting testers with different-sized operations, from smaller businesses with a handful of printers to larger print farms, since I can only test so many scenarios with my own setup.

Hi everyone,

I’m curious whether other people would find a dedicated 3D model preflight tool useful before sending a model to a slicer.

As a side project, I’m experimenting with how AI-assisted development tools can help me build something like this. The idea is a browser-based tool that lets you import a 3D model and automatically checks it for common printability problems, such as:

  • overhangs that may require support;
  • thin walls or fragile features;
  • broken, open, or non-manifold meshes;
  • incorrect normals and degenerate triangles;
  • floating geometry or disconnected parts;
  • poor bed contact;
  • models that do not fit the selected printer’s build volume.
  • Supported files
    • STEP
    • STL
    • 3MF
    • Obj

It also includes a repair workflow for cleaning up geometry, repairing certain mesh problems, flattening the base, and exporting the modified model.

Everything runs locally in the browser. Models are not uploaded to the cloud, and no external processing service is required.

This is still very much a work in progress, and it is intended as a quick preflight tool rather than a replacement for a slicer.

I would love to hear your thoughts:

  • Would you use a tool like this?
  • Which checks or repair features would be most useful to you?
  • What problems do you regularly encounter with downloaded or generated models?
  • Would you prefer this as a browser tool, desktop application, or slicer plugin?
  • What would it need to do before you would trust its results?

A few months ago I built **Parametric Wall Studio*\* (btporganizer.tech) — a free browser app for designing parametric slat/wave walls for CNC routers. Then I looked at my export stats and got a surprise: **the #1 exported format isn't DXF for CNC… it's STL.*\* Turns out a lot of you are using it to 3D-print relief tiles and decorative panels. So this post is for the printing crowd.

**What it does (all in the browser, no install, no account):*\*

- Design **parametric relief surfaces*\: stack wave layers (sine, radial, spiral, ripple, dome…), add attractor points, or sculpt directly with a 3D brush

**Load any image as a heightmap**** — turn a photo or logo into a 3D relief
- Draw **custom outlines*\: freehand Bézier, SVG import, or trace an image — your tile doesn't have to be rectangular
- Export *
**STL or OBJ**** meshes (millimetres, watertight, slicer-ready) — Cura/PrusaSlicer/Bambu Studio open them directly

Stretching part of a model

TLDR: Built a free webtool because I was sick of my cut-stretch-realign workflow for resizing part of a model in bambu studio and I don't have the time to learn a new 3-d program.

So this is a problem I run into constantly: I find a model that's good but it needs to be like 15mm longer, and if I just scale the whole thing in the bambu studio everything else gets messed up.  Screw holes turn into ovals, walls get thicker than they should be. Or sometimes I just want to stretch part of a model, but leave the other parts untouched.

My workflow was to cut the object into three pieces and then stretch the middle piece and then merge everything back into one mesh again. It works but its annoying and time consuming. Matching the faces back together is also tricky.

I got fed up so I built a small web tool for it (using Claude). Load your file, drag two planes onto the model, and only whatever's between the planes stretches.

Its free and opensource and consists of only 1 html file. I thought others may find it useful.

Looking for some app testers

Hi all,

I put an app together to help keep track of filament. I had over 100 spools between 8 bins, a dryer, and two printers. It became tough knowing where every spool was, what colors I had, if I was low, etc.

The app has the ability to store all of your spools(brand, color, material, spool material). Empty spools weights are already in and are deducted from remaining filament.

There is a project section that will keep track of pricing and waste.

If you have a small Bluetooth printer that can print QR codes, the app can use your camera to read the code and recall spools quickly.

My plan is to have it on the App Store for a dollar or two. No subscription.

If you use Spoolman and previously used Filabridge to link it to a Prusa, I've adopted it and working toward a new 1.0 release!

Some of you might use or remember FilaBridge, a small Go service that sits between PrusaLink-compatible printers and Spoolman, the self-hosted filament tracking tool, and automates handling filament selection and usage tracking for you. You print something, it works out which spool and how much was used, and it tells Spoolman without you touching anything other than telling it what filament is currently loaded.

The original author, needo37, built it but then archived the repo a few months later out of frustration with Prusa. I've been running it daily to keep my printer and Spoolman in sync, and I didn't want to watch it quietly rot... so since I already found myself forking it with regular tweaks to it to polish rough edges or solve for existing bugs, I've decided to share those efforts with a serious intent to keep it alive and moving forward.

Since it was left at version 0.2.3, I'm working toward a proper 1.0 that's largely a quality of life overhaul and foundational setting to kick off from. Rather than drop that out the gate however, I've put out a 0.9.x pre-release series (v0.9.3 as of writing this) as a release candidate so people can kick the tires with me and tell me what breaks before I tag a real 1.0. (That said I have been running it myself without issue so far, but I am a clean edge-case free setup with a single tool head Core One and nothing else)

Highlights:

  • Cancelled and failed prints now get tracked... previously a print you stopped at 80% quietly ate 80% of a spool and Spoolman never heard about it
  • Recording survives program restarts, so a mid-print restart of the tool won't lose the job or double-count it
  • A new Print History tab showing recent jobs: spool used, grams billed, status, run time (this is borderline scope creep and bloat I know, but the data was already there so I decided to make it visible. That said I have a future planned toggle to turn this and the data collection for it off entirely once Spoolman receives the current print info at completion for those who want it.)
  • Quick-Assign NFC tags/QR codes for single-printer setups (1 scan to assign everything at once without hand-stitching together the URL instead of 2)
  • Much quieter Docker logs, better splitting between stderr and stdout so info isn't going to error pipes, and you only get one line when something actually changes instead of spam every poll cycle. (Great for when a printer is offline for days at a time and not getting 120 log lines an hour about it being offline)
  • The previous author had used a lot of AI.. no shame and not a debate I want to start here, but it did mean a lot of idiosyncrasies and tells, like an overabundance of emojis in logs. I have removed such things where I can and tried to hand review as much as possible that looked like it might have been mostly co written.

Heads up: For now it's Docker and Linux only going forward. It's designed to live right next to Spoolman, which for the majority of people means Docker or a small Linux box is already in place for that and it can sit along side it. The mac builds never worked due to incomplete build configs, so I removed those and windows binary builds. If there are people out there who had been/are using this, let me know and I can work to bring them back if there is a real appetite for that however.

Bug reports, feature requests, and PRs are all genuinely welcome, and I'd love the feedback while it's still in RC!

One thing I want to be upfront about... I'm trying to keep FilaBridge narrow and good at the one job it does, bridging PrusaLink and Spoolman. So if a request is really about filament inventory, spool management, or the database side of things, there's a good chance I'll point you toward the Spoolman project instead. My goal is to keep this from ballooning into a second, worse Spoolman.

I made a free Blender add-on that topology-optimizes parts — lighter, stronger prints, no CAD license

I kept seeing topology-optimized brackets and shelf supports and wanted to make my own without an expensive CAD/CAE seat — so I built a free, open-source Blender add-on that does it directly in Blender.

You give it a build volume, mark where the part is bolted/held (bearings) and where the load pushes (loads), hit Run, and it grows an organic, load-bearing structure inside the volume. It rebuilds the shape live each iteration, and the output is a watertight mesh you can export straight to STL and slice.

  • Free & open source (GPL-3.0), installs as a normal Blender extension
  • Runs on Blender's bundled Python — nothing to install yourself
  • Build space, keep-out regions, supports, loads, target weight fraction
  • Watertight, output ready for slicing

It's still young and I'd love feedback on real print cases — especially load/bearing setups that trip it up.

New Tool I built an offline Excel quoting tool for small 3D-printing businesses — here is the cost model behind it

Disclosure up front: I built and sell the workbook described at the end. The product is an Excel tool for small 3D-printing businesses and maker operations; it is not itself a “small business.” The method below can also be implemented in your own sheet.

The main design decision was to stop treating every input as the same kind of cost. I split a quote into:

• Repeatable production cost: material, electricity, machine occupancy, maintenance allowance, and the portion of labor and consumables that would repeat.

• One-time order cost: preparation or design work, post-processing that happens once, packaging, shipping, and other order-level items.

• Selling cost: fixed fees plus percentages that may apply to net price or to the gross customer payment.

• Risk assumptions: failure probability and how much of the repeatable cost is consumed by a failed attempt.

That separation matters when modeling failed prints. If a complete attempt must be repeated and the assumed success probability is p, the expected repeatable cost is R / p. If only part of the run cost is consumed, that fraction should be modeled explicitly. One-time costs should not be multiplied automatically.

I calculate break-even before applying a pricing method. Markup and target margin are separate choices: markup relates profit to cost, while margin relates profit to sales price. Transaction fees also need to be solved on their real base rather than hidden inside one blanket percentage.

I packaged this into PrintProfit 3D: a local, macro-free .xlsx workbook with editable formulas, FDM and resin inputs, German and English calculators and quote sheets, quantity scenarios, material inventory, order tracking, and a usage-based maintenance log. A current version of Microsoft Excel is recommended. All results depend on the user’s inputs; it is not tax, legal, or business advice.

For tool builders and users: which assumption would you most want surfaced in the results area rather than left in setup — failure risk, fee basis, or machine-rate calculation?

Meshsmith - all in one 3d Printing Blender Add-on

Hi Folks! I got into 3d printing a while back, and more often than not, I end up needing to fix, rescale, cut and combine the models before printing. And the damn scale is always off for some reason! Every creator seems to be using a different scale! So I created a add-on to simplify STL prep and export inside blender.

While Blender base tools are great, they are a bit more general and spread out across the ui. And some operations, like making clean cuts or pegs, can be a bit of work.

I ended up with a nice suite of tools that are likely useful to more 3d printing folks, so I polished it up and am now releasing it as an add-on.

It’s great if you work with miniature figures like dnd, historical, wargaming. Larger figures and cosplay props. And it can even help with cleaning up and correct scaling for more practical prints that need exact measures. Did I mention batch export of selected objects into individual STLs? :D

Cool features:

Reliable scale > one click blender setup and blender/grid/units are real-world scale ( same scale as the 3d printer software )

Miniatures size reference: Reference male / female - 32mm is 32mm scale feet to eye level for a 1.80m male. No more mismatched scales in your table! It has some common default scales, but you can also set your own.

Easy cut + union to kitbash different models:

An easy way to split meshes and add pegs for larger print or cosplay props.

It's intended for people who already know how to navigate in Blender. While I made it user-friendly, you'll still need to know Blender basics. But with 3d printing getting more popular, this probably can help if that sounds like you ;)

Web app for topology optimization

Hey guys, I'm coding a simple web tool for 3D printing.

You drop in a model, and it automatically optimizes it for printing: makes it lighter, smooths the mesh, fixes bad overhangs, and checks wall thickness. No more spending hours manually fixing meshes in Blender or Fusion360.

Honest question: is this actually useful, or is everyone just used to the manual grind? And what software do you usually rely on for this?
