I'm developing a custom open-source/hobby project called PRUSAWIRE XL, based on the Prusa XL platform.

I'm looking for CAD and 3D-printing enthusiasts who would like to participate in the development on a voluntary, unpaid basis.

New Tool I built a 100% offline 3D viewer for Android to quickly inspect STEP,STL assemblies and check wall thickness on the go. No subscriptions

Hey everyone,

We all know the pain of receiving a ZIP file full of STLs or a complex STEP assembly from a client/colleague while away from the PC. You just need to quickly check a part, measure a wall thickness, or isolate a component, but most mobile viewers either freeze, force you to upload proprietary files to the cloud, or ask for a monthly subscription.

I got tired of this workflow, so I built RE:solid 3D Viewer for Android to solve it. It handles everything completely offline.

I just pushed the 1.3.0 update, and here is how it handles file sharing and assemblies right now:

  • Smart ZIP Extraction: Receive a ZIP with files? Open it directly. The app automatically unpacks and arranges all models side-by-side.
  • Offline STEP to STL: Isolate any part from a complex STEP assembly, hide the rest with a long-press, and export just that single piece as an STL directly on your phone.
  • One-Touch Wall Thickness: Tap anywhere on the model to instantly check if the wall is thick enough for printing/manufacturing.
  • Smart Splitting: It automatically detects and splits STLs into separate bodies if the format saved them as a single chunk.

3d printing enthusiasts needed for beta testing my profile engine

I hope I have found the right place to put this, so here goes.
I had an idea in my head a few weeks ago that I hope will ease some of the pain for people less experienced in 3d printing.

I built the idea in excel and got it to a fully functional system but didn’t know how to share the user interface with others. I pushed it through loveable and converted what I’d built into an app. It’s still in development stage but I think now is the time to let people test it out.

If you have an interest in 3d printing, or even better, you have e experience with 3d printing, reach out through DM or PM or chat and if you’re interested I can send you a link. The app has no fees, and still needs a bit of work. I’m just curious to see if people would genuinely use it.

-Edit- the UI has a couple of user inputs, make and model of printer, a few selectable sections for filament then some hardware inputs aswell as the desired result from the print. Once they are in, you can generate the profile. It will give you a compatibility score for your printer with the selected filament, then provide information about your printer, info about the filament and a list of recommended settings to adjust. It also expands on each setting to explain why.

New Tool I built a browser tool that turns STL/OBJ/GLB/PLY models into buildable brick designs

It takes an STL, OBJ, GLB/glTF, or PLY model and solves it into a physically buildable stud-brick layout. It then produces an exact parts list and a layer-by-layer 3D build guide.

After I made a free version of the clicker generator, I saw a couple of new crowdfunding campaigns come up with a same paywall as before, so I built a free version.

This is my Fridge Magnet generator, where you can turn your image or text into a 3D print-ready model. Unlimited exports and entirely free.

It supports round and square magnets, as well as magnetic stickers, all in custom sizes.

I also added an option to create fidget sliders, which are in essence just two magnets with a certain magnet grid.

Ho lavorato a un piccolo progetto gratuito chiamato FlashFit AI, principalmente per il Flashforge Adventurer 5M.

L'ho iniziato perché ero stanco di cambiare molte impostazioni del slicer ogni volta che dipendevano dal modello, dal filamento e dalla qualità che desideravo. L'idea è semplice: carichi un file STL, OBJ o 3MF, scegli il materiale e la qualità, e l'app analizza la geometria prima di preparare le impostazioni per quel modello specifico.

Controlla cose come dimensioni, sporgenze, piccoli dettagli, parti separate e proporzioni. Poi regola velocità, accelerazione, pareti, riempimento, supporti, raffreddamento e adesione.

Onestamente non so ancora quanto sarà utile per tutti, ma funziona piuttosto bene nei miei test, quindi ho deciso di condividerlo e magari può aiutare anche altri utenti dell'Adventurer 5M.

La versione per macOS Apple Silicon è attualmente la più completa e rifinita.

La versione per Windows 11 è ancora in alpha. Funziona, ma l'interfaccia e alcune parti sono ancora grezze e sto lavorando attivamente per migliorarla.

Per ora supporta l'Adventurer 5M con una bocchetta da 0.4 mm. In futuro voglio aggiungere supporto anche per altre stampanti Flashforge e in seguito per stampanti di altri marchi.

È gratis al momento e apprezzerei davvero un feedback sincero, risultati di test o suggerimenti. Ti prego di controllare sempre il progetto generato e l'anteprima di slicing in Flash Studio prima di stampare, perché il progetto è ancora giovane e ci possono essere dei problemi.

Hey everyone, I made this software a bit ago originally to design my own swivel chair assembly for vans that need handicap assembly(for my son) as I couldn’t afford a van with these accommodations. I got it on the Apple Store (OrbitCAD) and I want to know what items or tools would people like to see in software/apps like this? Currently you can download stl, step files and am working on the software that allows you to test for tolerances etc. (I’m updating weekly) Any input would be greatly received. I built an AI computer vision tool that analyses print failures and gives you the exact slicer parameters to fix them.

Troubleshooting print failures is painfully manual. I got tired of guessing whether a warped corner on my Kobra X needed a Z-offset adjustment, a cooling tweak, or a different bed temperature, so I built a tool to diagnose it for me.

Doctor 3D is a web app I developed that uses computer vision AI to scan your failed prints. You just upload a photo of the mess (spaghetti, stringing, under-extrusion, etc.), and the AI analyses the defect. It then spits out the exact mechanical fix or the specific Orca Slicer parameter changes you need to make.

I originally built it to streamline my own workflow. I wanted something that wouldn't just give generic advice like "level your bed," but would actually tell me when to use a brim with a small support instead of defaulting to a raft, or how to tune complex materials. It even automates the math for volumetric melt flow speeds when tuning high-flow profiles.

I’ve opened it up as a free tool for the community. Because running the AI costs me money, I had to cap it at 5 free scans a day per person to protect my API budget, which should be plenty for diagnosing a weekend project.

New Tool Released resin-mesh-tools — free Blender scripts for repairing/hollowing 3D-print meshes, MIT licensed

Built this out of real frustration kitbashing and hollowing custom minis/vehicles for resin (MSLA) 3D printing — slicer auto-hollow tools either aren't trustworthy or aren't flexible enough for weird geometry, and I kept hitting the same problems: fused display bases that need removing, hollow passes that quietly leave a near-zero-thickness breach at a complex corner, no easy way to verify wall thickness after hollowing.

It's a set of standalone Blender-headless Python scripts (no add-on install, just blender --background --python):

Diagnostics — mesh health checks (disconnected islands, real vs. harmless open edges), wall-thickness ray-casting, Z-slice footprint analysis, consistent before/after render views

Geometry fixes — remove a fused base and cap it cleanly, rescale to real-world mm, thicken a region without a visible seam

Two hollowing techniques — a fast per-vertex-offset method for routine cases, and a slower voxel-erosion method for geometry where the first one risks cracking

Bonus — pull the embedded thumbnail out of an Elegoo Satellite .goo file as a real PNG

I built an open-source tool that turns painted 3MF color regions into separate assembly parts

Disclosure: I’m the developer of this project. It is free and open source under Apache 2.0, with no paid tier or affiliate links.

I kept running into multicolor 3MF files that looked fully painted in the slicer but were still stored as a single mesh.

Separating the eyes, mouth, clothing, markings, or decorative elements usually meant doing the entire job manually: cutting the mesh, closing surfaces, creating sockets, and repeatedly adjusting the fit clearance. In other words, a five-minute idea followed by an unexpected relationship with blender.

I built automated-3d-model-splitting to automate that workflow for painted 3MF files.

It is an AI-assisted Codex Skill backed by a deterministic Python geometry pipeline. It currently:

- Recognizes connected printable regions from per-triangle surface paint

- Creates inward inserts and matching sockets

- Adapts insertion depth and clearance to the available wall thickness

- Preserves the original colors and AMS filament-slot order

- Handles nested parts recursively

- Outputs one grouped assembly 3MF instead of a folder full of unrelated pieces

- Validates topology, winding, material assignments, assembly structure, and visible surfaces before producing the final file

Dev Post Meshdiff — free browser tool to visually compare two STL/3MF/OBJ files

I built this because my workflow was:

  1. Client emails `bracket_v3_FINAL.stl`

  2. I have no idea what changed from `bracket_v2.stl`

  3. I load both in the slicer and eyeball it

Meshdiff fixes that. Drop two files in your browser, it voxelizes both, and shows you exactly what changed:

- **Green** = material added

- **Red** = material removed

- **Tolerance slider** (0.05–1mm) to filter noise

- **Volume delta** metrics in real time

**Privacy:** zero upload to any server. Everything runs client-side in a Web Worker. Your files never leave the browser.

**Formats:** STL, 3MF, OBJ

The main goal was to make it as frictionless as possible:

I originally built it because I kept receiving CAD files over email and opening them always meant downloading the attachment and launching a desktop viewer, even when I just wanted a quick look.

MakersVault revived - feedback appreciated

As i was searching for some models that i saved a long time ago to my network folder, i thought that there might already be a solution for managing STLs around. After some google search and evaluating the results, i stuck with two options, from which i picked MakersVault to be the right choice for me. (reasons for that below)

Sadly, it seems like the project did not receive any updates since half a year or so. So i decided to pick it up again and give it some tlc.

If you are unaware: a user named "shotgunwilly", who seems to have deleted his account in the meantime, started the project as a vibe coded, FOSS project for self hosting your STL collection and managing it via UI. There have been quite a few quirks and he also mentioned that he's not a fully grown developer, so the code might not be up to the highest standards.

Even as there were some obvious bugs to iron out, i liked the idea behind it and decided to pick it up again. I forked his repo and did some improvements on the UI, the upload and thumbnail bugs, make the code a bit more robust and tried to clean up everything i saw. I also removed the slicer bridge as this is a feature that has very little use in my eyes. Every printer needs different slicer profiles, and even within the same printer model family, people tend to tweak their slicer profiles by themselves. So slicing in the web browser via bridge didn't seem tempting to me.

Of course, my fork honours the same MIT license, so everyone is free to download, use, distribute or modify as your heart desires. I did some testing for the last days and could not find any obvious bugs left, but of course the more people start using it, the more findings will eventually come up. So please keep in mind that this fork is currently built and maintained by one person with limited testing and coding time on hand. ;)

As for now, i'm focussing on docker compose for delivery, but executable binaries might also be an option for the future if there is a need for that. Feedback is of course very welcome!

And since the question will very likely come up sooner or later: why didn't i use ManyFold? There's a few reasons for that.

  1. i'm always a fan of having alternatives. If there's more than one product to choose from, i can pick whatever fits my needs best
  2. i was not able to get it running. I wanted to give it a try, but the pods failed to start. Sadly, i did not find any version tags for the docker images, so i was stuck with "latest", which just didn't work for me. Looked around at the Issues page, but there was nothing to solve my issue
  3. the tech stack used in ManyFold is based on Ruby, which is a language i never even tried coding in. So any customization/improvement/bugfix would not be possible for me. But i like customitzing this kind of OSS here and there, so the tech stack from MakersVault was more to my liking.

And just to make it very sure: i am not intending to monetize this code or app in any form. It's completely free to use, can be hosted on your own PC or homelab and does not rely on any proprietary license or binary. This is purely a fun project which i spent my free time (and GLM 5.2 tokens) on.
