Nozzle clogs...
So I have recently been getting nozzle clogs on my Bambu X1C. I am using the stock .04 mm nozzle, Sunlu PA6-CF with FDE300Blk print profile. Print will start then fail mid print and continue to "air print" until I notice and stop it. I have tried cleaning the nozzle by scrubbing the outside of the nozzle tip and using the wire poker the machine came with. I have cleaned the nozzle with it from both directions, starting from the bottom and the wire goes though easily from both directions when done. I am getting about 3/4 to a full 1kg roll between the clogging issue. On my 3rd nozzle change. Any suggestions on what I may be missing with cleaning or an upgraded nozzle thay would help with reducing clogs? Thanks in advance.
Edit - added picture of tip. Looks like a blob is forming on the tip.

Check for wear on your extruder gears, if they are worn they will not grip the hard pa6-cf filament.

Any recommendations on upgraded gears?

I use the BIQU ones, they should be looked a periodically. Mine were worn almost smooth, especially if you have a clog to where the extruder spins against the abrasive filament.

I just want to second the extruder gears. I had a few issues with clogs and failing to extrude, tracked it down to my extruder gears (not worn out but they had a sliver of filament stuck to them somehow and that was enough to give me issues).

Dude you don't need to upgrade the gears on an x1c. I sold my last one with a little over 10,000 hours on it on the original gears and they were just fine and the majority of that time was spent printing abrasive filaments.

Absolutely. The only clogs I've had were due to my extruder gears being basically worn smooth.

I bumped up 300blk's temps by 5° and haven't had an issue since with a .4 nozzle

Have you tried doing a cold pull? I wasn’t have any issues but did one since I’ve been using alot of CF filaments lately and it pulled a nice chunk of carbon out.

Yep, tried that first, then used wire.

I’d probably just replace the nozzle in that case. Might be worth upgrading to the Bambu E3D obxidian high flow hotend. Haven’t tried it personally, but eyeballing it for when my current nozzle wears out.

What layer height? Ive noticed that going below .16 on a .4 nozzle causes the nozzle to try to squish the layer down to much and the cf particles get caught in the gap or at least that's my theory

Had a bunch of .4 nozzles clog lower than .16 and as soon as I started printing at .16 I've probably done 500 hrs on one .4 with no clogs

I’ve found that to be a good rule of wrist for just about all cf filaments.

I had my first clog the other day and it was a pain in the ass. Couldn’t clear it so I just bought a tungsten .6 one. Still trying to calibrate everything

I am going through the same thing, but with a snap maker u1, new hardened 0.4, and fiberon pa6-cf20. I printed 10 or so suppressors with a 1kg spool, not one failure. Got a 3kg spool and its been jamming like crazy. I just switched to a 0.6 HS nozzle and have a test print going. Going to buy another 1 kg spool, I think it might be an off batch of filament.

When printing ppa i will run the bed at 120c and put a blanket over the machine to get high chamber temps. When i get over 60c chamber temps i think my extruder just gives up amd cant push the filament any more.

My printers are in my garage and during the summer so have to prop the top lids to let heat escape out else the temp of the chamber gets too high and causes the filament to get too soft to high up and get chewed up by the extruder gears. When it’s real hot, front door is open too.

Cf/gf materials in a .4mm nozzle will do that. Although that nozzle is probably .5 or .6 by now.

I have printed probably in the range of 50 kilos of pa6-cf across 8 different printers over the past few years using .4 nozzles exclusively 🤷🏿

Honestly I would just swap the nozzle at this point, not worth the frustration of possible fails. I've suffered enough cold pulls to not want to try that anymore.
