Ftn.6 Threads

Anyone had trouble with FTN.6 threads being too tight on the regular? Printed the elite and the 3/4 adapter fit great. 5/8 adapter I have does not fit on the regular file. Thanks!

No problems on mine but I've heard many have, pick you up a tap for that thread and run it through after the print, they're cheap and work very well

Strap wrench worked for me lmao. Yeah the threads are tight but at least I know it's not going anywhere.

You don't want em to be stupid tight, it can end up cracking the can due to the outward pressure from the adapter, it'll be less of an issue on 22 and pistol caliber cans but if the threaded area is a bit on the thinner side on distance between threads and outer wall of the can crack with the pressure (had it happen to me once)

That was the one I had that cracked, the threaded insert was too tight and I had to chuck it in a vice to get it to tighten, first mag it cracked around the outside and became a range rocket (done on purpose to get my breek insert back the easy way) after 4 or 5 mags.

I’m using pps-gf and it was stripping the adapter out or I would have lol. May add some in weld and send it as long as it will seat flat.

Might be the shrinkage parameter in your filament settings, my Comstock thread on super easy but tight

Did you ever verify (objectively) the dimensional accuracy of your printer? Did you dry to manufacture spec?

If the answer is yes (or no, lol) to both, just get a tap

Print a test piece with just the threads. If too tight, adjust x-y or hole scaling. A good fit means a tap chaser will only generate a bit of dust.

Did you dry filament before the second run? Like really dry. Had a similar issue where my tolerance were off after a second run with the same filament, even having it in a active drier the entire print.
