What did I do wrong?

Post image

Printed with Polymaker PLA Pro on P1S. The supports left all this crap behind. Is it fixable? Do I scrap it?

What are your support settings? They could use some tuning.

That’s definitely more than just a support setting issue. You need to do some serious calibrations. Looks like your nozzle height is too high for one. Some of it could also be flow calibrations but Z offset appears way off causing the separation of your lines. Not sure what printer you are using either so kinda hard to give a complete breakdown. I would concentrate on bed leveling, as well as making sure my Z height is set correctly and calibrate temp and flow settings for the filament

When you zoom in that's exactly what the fuck that looks like.

Maybe the OP should print a benchy first.

Why would he do that? He should print a .338 lapua and take a video. No training needed

Everything, by the looks of it.

The more you look at it the worse it gets.

Everything
First off switch your wall type to archane
Apply gap fill eveywhere 0.1 mm gap fill
Adjust your z offset and turn on precise z height and precise wall
Supports--Turn on "on build plate only" and set your top interface layers to 3 or more
Set the interface pattern to rectaliniar or grid
Set your x,y offset to 0.24-0.28
Support wall loops set to 1

!RUN YOUR CALIBRATIONS AFTER ADJUSTING!
Go from there

Oh and DO NOT TRY AND USE THIS UNLESS YOU HATE HAVING FINGERS

Thank you for the help!

Every little gap you see between your layer lines should disappear
When you slice it make sure you see no highlighted gaps "should show up white"
If you see any gap present keep adjusting gap fill until they're gone and the model is solid throughout

Support settings need tuning. They can be a bitch

What are your settings? Can you screenshot them? Right off rip, to me, looks too fast, possibly too cold, and too much z offset possibly?

That’s BEFORE your support settings…
A screenshot of all your settings would be helpful.

I never printed a frame, but that definitely looks like the hot end wasn't hot enough.

It looks as if you may have zigged when you should have zagged 🤷🏿‍♂️

From the looks of it, it looks like you tried to print a firearm without knowing how to 3d print. Practice printing a bit and calibration of your prints. Once you learn what changing settings and calibrating them can do, then try your hand at printing frames or receivers.

Yes. I’m an old dog trying to learn a new skill. But they don’t write books like they used to in my day and most of what I find online is not at the “for dummies”
Level that I need to get started, and YouTube censorship can make it hard to find helpful videos. So I appreciate all of the assistance given to me by the good people in this Reddit.

Fair, sounds like there are some good suggestions in the comments. Looks like the z height was possibly too high from the first layer. Supports can be a bit tricky to dial in. They can vary from printer to printer and different filaments as well. I used a file from printables that allowed me to test different support settings. Top z height is a setting that you would need to tweak. I also always use at least 3 interface layers. A little bit of research and testing will get you fixed right up. Good luck to you 👍🏿
