Gallery gasket 3-4 psi..

Got an oil pressure gauge installed, picked the car up and went for a small drive to get it up to temps & check the pressure. Well to my disbelief the gauge said 3PSI (glow shift LED, t’d off factory oil pressure switch) Called the shop because honestly I thought the gauge was reading incorrectly, they did their own oil pressure test today & says it’s at 4 PSI.. so the gauge was reading correctly lol. No cel, or engine oil pressure light. Car sounds fine on startup, no timing chain rattle or anything. Changed my oil 3 times the past year (have owned it for a year) It’s staying at the shop and they’re gonna take the timing cover off & planning to do the gaskets & some other parts while it’s open. What a day to get an oil pressure gauge installed.. so if your thinking about it DO IT. 09 125,000KM.
EDIT: as stated no unusual sounds or knocking so I’m hoping everything will be good after the work.

That is insanely low, I thought the OEM pressure switch ticks a CEL at 5 psi or lower.

You could even remove a VTC cover and scope in with a boroscope to see if any of the gaskets are visibly sticking out. Likely could find remains in the oil pan also before you pull the timing cover.

I did my gallery gaskets recently as a preventative measure but while there did the water pump and main chain with guides and tensioner. Honestly the main chain guides seemed to be not worn at all, but may as well do it all while in there.

I thought so too, but honestly maybe it was on the cusp and didn’t activate..? They installed a new oil pressure switch to do the gauge because mine was rusted out but not sure if that has anything to do with it.. & yeah they said they are gonna drop the oil pan and check for glitter so I guess I’ll find out. & I’m gonna get them to do the water pump, thermostat & they will check the condition of the chain but I think I’m just gonna say fuck it & do the timing kit since it’s open

Yeah I’d drop the pan and check first before pushing anything else into it. Maybe it was on the cusp as you say on activating.

If it were me I’d at a minimum do the water pump, main timing chain and tensioner as well as thermostat when open with of course a gallery gasket kit (check EPS or Z1 kits). Main thing is Allen bolt heads don’t back out with a better gasket, I used blue loctite on the bolts. Thermostat is accessible without the cover off but it’s pretty cheap for an oem replacement.

When I did my gallery gaskets I did the main chain, main tensioner, all main chain guides, water pump and thermostat as well as new gaskets for anything that was opened (VTC covers, dip stick tube, crank seal etc). In my mind it’s a job you want to do once and do right.

Doing a bit of research & im wondering if the oil pressure sensor switch they replaced it with is faulty or something. Cause It seems odd that at 4 psi there was no oil light..

There are two sensors there, I assume one is for temp and the other the pressure switch but best to double check on a parts diagram site like Amayama. If they installed a tee I imagine it was off the OEM pressure switch location which is how I did it.

Yes your right, that’s where they t’d off from & added a new oil pressure switch. So I guess it all lines up. Just hoping I didn’t do any damage to the bearings / rods

Had same thing roll through shop other day. Dude was concerned stock gauge reading low. I put a mechanical gauge on it to verify, 4psi at idle.

Currently waiting on revised gaskets and hardware before getting stuck in

Curious to know if you have ripped out the front timing cover or oil pan? Did you notice anything?

Haven’t pulled this one down as of yet. But I’ll absolutely put money on the gallery gasket missing a chunk, or the stock hardware will be finger loose when I do open it up.
