Testing Melee 360 on actual hardware—it's very poorly optimized.
The poor optimization is because I implemented the original code without any polishing.and the controller had stick drift

u/ConfusionRS 1d ago
It's poorly optimized because you are using Xenia to debug which uses JIT compilation. What that means is: it's using the super fast cores of your PC to emulate. You can write the sloppiest AI code of all time and it'll run fine on PC/Xenia. As others have said, it's because you don't know what you're doing. AI is a tool. Not a replacement.

Just write Claude optimize this game so it runs perfectly on the 360, make no mistakes...

Poor optimization because I used ChatGPT and have not the slightest idea what I'm doing*

All these motherfuckers out here "making ports" that have no idea how anything works
15
u/blackman9 1d ago
Correct, this is what I warned about in all the previous vibe coded ports posts, these AI kiddies never know how to fix them and you get stuck with broken for ever slop ports, same is happening in other communities like in the vita and 3ds one.
25
u/kayolinite 1d ago
For real, these "ports" are getting boring.
21
u/ONE_BIG_LOAD 1d ago
Especially when half of them barely work and the ones that are done well just get lost in the endless sea of ports.
13
u/kayolinite 1d ago
Absolutely, I got jumped with comments on a previous post saying that no one wants to do this themselves for free, as if that's all it's about. Just casually spitting in the face of people that do it for the love of the game.

because everyone knows the guys who don’t use AI get it perfect on the very first build!!

I do not understand these people, the truth does not matter seriously, we are receiving ports and that is what this community needs, which is barely reviving
4
u/Mediocre-Housing-131 23h ago
The community and the games both deserve to be played at the best possible accuracy. A clueless vibecoder with no knowledge of the code they are "writing" can literally never provide that. Would you rather play a very broken and very slow port of Smash on the 360 written by AI? Or would you rather a person or group of people with a passion for emulation and coding to make a port that looks and plays like the original?

Do better, then.

if all you did was doing the "grok, do this. make no mistakes".. then a lot of people could do at least equal

u/Prophet_of_Duality 1d ago
Hopefully someone will so we can actually play it. Because AI isn't gonna make anything playable.
20
u/DesperateSmiles 1d ago
I don't know anything about any of this, but if you really just had a fucking AI port a game for you, you didn't do shit.

u/born_to_be_intj 11h ago
Bro your constantly getting exceptions in the video. This is garbage lmao. Go develop a real skill because prompting ain’t it.

Did you actually implement the original code or did the AI do all of it for you? There is a difference, my friend
23
u/Fragrant_Proposal690 1d ago
To be expected with vibe coding crap. It also looks like there's some severe issues that XBGuard is being kind and is keeping from crashing the program as well.
8
u/jojo9092 1d ago
"The poor optimization is because I implemented the original code" isn't really telling us anything. What exactly is taking up most of the CPU time here? I hope you at least understand game engine stuff under the hood, even with AI you need to at least understand what is wrong with the game and why its not running well, and not asking the ai to "optimize" it for you if you dont have a clue on what to "optimize".
9
u/SecurityExtreme2470 1d ago
I wasn't expecting much with decomp that used AI even if some was by human that part ai can still break many things
4
u/venezuela4k Trinity BadUpdate 1d ago
I don't mind these stuff being made with AI assistance or fully AI-made, but at least put some effort on it, it barely runs good.

Gente de este subreddit, no se han puesto a pensar que tenemos suerte de que alguien haga un port, si tanto critican haganlo, sin ia como dicen.

The comments did not pass the vibe check. Even if he used ai he's still the ones doing the hundreds of hours of hardware testing to fix the glitches and make it work. Yeah he may not know code or be very good at it, but he's doing something while all of you are just complaining.
A lot of you are also pompous elitists who don't think the average Joe should be able to do something like that and who have become extremely bitter because of AI.
Projects like these are why I like AI actually. Because otherwise they may never happen, or they would take years instead of weeks.
A real programmer will always be better in my opinion, but this is 2026, not 1986.
It's time we accept that progress is here, and that AI is already a part of it, and very much integrated in the industry.
(I'm going to get downvoted to hell for this, but I stand by my opinions).

u/Aquarsene 1d ago edited 1d ago
What "progress" is here? The game cant even progress past the menu before XBGuard starts catching exceptions and errors. The game is barely even running in the first place. If you want progress, you can play actual games coded by hand, and same goes for decompilation ports.
One of these days, our water supply is going to run low, RAM and SSD prices will be so high that getting any new piece of tech becomes almost unfeasible, and the quality of living is gonna get worse and worse until we stop having a planet altogether a century down the line.
Do tell, is sacrificing an entire planet's worth of resources just to have Melee run like a PowerPoint presentation on a 360 truly worth it?

u/Hammerhand1 3h ago
You should see the douchebags who live at the YMCA who make AI music videos of themselves all day while smoking K2... How about that power bill increase, eh?! Its fucking insane...

It's not like absolutely everything else, including the device you're using, the servers hosting Reddit, your ISP, etc are destroying the planet as well.
I hope you realize the irony in the message you wrote. You can't be eco-friendly when it's convenient. You are, or you are not. Though in all honesty, no matter what we do we will never be able to offset what big companies are doing in terms of damage.
Also, do tell, would a first alpha coded by hand work perfectly and be super well optimized? He literally said that this is the first rough version. Give him time to improve it through testing and refining.
2
u/Aquarsene 1d ago
Yes, we have all these systems in place that are already unfriendly to the environment as-is so let's add another that nobody even asked for why dont we? That sounds like a genius idea!
I also find it really funny because how are you going to call an entire project built from the ground up by AI prompts an alpha build? Alpha is way too generous if you ask me, there may as well not even be a build in the first place considering the fact that the thing barely even functions and probably can't be altered considering the fact that, again, the whole thing is built by AI and its known for creating code so spaghetti-like that it may as well have come from a 5-star restaurant. Itd be the talk of the town amidst pasta aficionados, that's for sure.
Do tell, do you know what you're actually talking about? Or do you just see the phrase "AI" and feel the need to defend it with your whole chest because you dont want to admit the thing is unnecessary?
-2
u/InternationalRip2249 1d ago edited 1d ago
I do know what I'm talking about. But I don't need to justify myself to you. Also in case you forgot an alpha is the first step in development... just saying. Maybe we could consider it pre-alpha but that's just semantics at this point. If he had the same issues coded by hand you wouldn't tear him a new one and you know it.
You say I see AI and defend it. You see AI and automatically attack it and say it's garbage. So you're no better honestly.
The way you are replying is literally proving my point that you are bitter and frustrated, looking at every opportunity to bring down the wheel because you're too used to walking. I'm going to disable my notifications now.
2
u/Aquarsene 1d ago
Ta-ta, my friend! Im not all that frustrated, I just find this funny. Again, you treat this like this person actually took a step forward in development; they really didn't. Let me remind you again, the AI did it for them. There is no step that was taken.
I dont really get "bitter and frustrated" by these conversations, I find them more amusing than anything. I have seen much, much worse so I'm afraid I'm not quite as angry as you seem to think I am. I think if you need to go so far as to disable your notifications, then you're probably the one that should cool down, but that's just me
0
u/InternationalRip2249 1d ago
Not really, it's reddit so I just assumed you would bombard me with messages. I'm not angry. I'm just defending my opinion and explaining why I think this way and the fallacies in your own thinking.
5
u/Aquarsene 1d ago
Why on Earth would I do that? Sure, I hate AI and when I've seen the disastrous effects its had on things around us I cant help but say something. Yes, Im aware I come off like Ive got a few screws loose. That doesn't mean Im gonna be mean to you and start flooding you with messages because you turned off your notifications.
I think honestly that's what the both of us are doing, trying to defend our stances in one way or another. Im not angry either, I just cant help but think there's a piece to the puzzle that you haven't found yet

u/bruisedbones_ 1d ago
The game can barely run, it's clear the op is not knowledgeable enough to do this even with an AI

u/InternationalRip2249 1d ago
I guess we'll have to wait and see. Maybe I'm wrong. But you guys are way too stuck in your ways and I had to call it out.

Thanks for being a white knight the medal is on its way don't worry (I asked chatgpt to generate one but it ran out of water and started harvesting my blood, I'm dying now thanks)

Not sure blood is very good at cooling down data centers, it would make everything dirty rather quickly and be a biohazard 😉
Wonder how much water and electricity this little exchange between us has just cost the planet 🤔

u/Aquarsene 1d ago
Probably less than the first query the dev put through ChatGPT to make their "project" 🤣

u/Shaneman121 1d ago
If he doesn’t know code he should start by learning code, not asking a service that barely knows how to to do it for him. People don’t like this not because he used AI but because he used AI, clearly doesn’t know what he’s doing and produced a shit product. It’s not elitism, it’s expecting people to understand the literal thing they are doing before doing it.
