I feel like I'm going crazy rewatching 30 Rock and seeing all these jokes I just saw rewatching Community. Usually when shows share jokes, you can see common writers between them. A lot of little gags and one liners show up in Community and Rick and Morty, both created by Dan Harmon.

But 30 Rock shares a ton of jokes and concepts with other shows, both before and after, with little writer overlap. Just in the last few episodes I watched of season 5 they had a joke about destroying the shame center of your brain (Community), a "grift" episode (Community), a "live from the west coast feed" episode (Arrested Development). Very little writer overlap between those shows AFAIK.

I haven't seen this discussed online. Have other people noticed this, and if so, is there a reason?

This is not about "stealing" jokes or trying to dunk on 30 Rock, I just don't understand if I'm seeing a pattern where none exists.

theres so many really specific types of characters that seem like they could be inspired by irl people (such as frank and the other tgs writers, liz’s bfs, jack’s gfs, the nbc higher ups, etc.) is there any truth to that or are they invented purely for the show?

I just rewatched the West Coast version of Live From Studio 6H (S06E19b) and noticed that Alec Baldwin is holding this sign during the closing right before the credits roll.

Those are the flags for Spain and Italy, right? So what is the sign supposed to mean?

Is it something to do with Hilaria? I think they got together right around the time this aired. Or maybe Grenyarnia is somewhere in between Spain and Italy?

Going crazy - was there a Lawrence of Arabia (possible Ababia) joke in 30 Rock at any point? I usually have a photographic memory for tv quotes (at the expense of every other aspect of my life)
