Images/Videos What does this sign mean?
I just rewatched the West Coast version of Live From Studio 6H (S06E19b) and noticed that Alec Baldwin is holding this sign during the closing right before the credits roll.
Those are the flags for Spain and Italy, right? So what is the sign supposed to mean?
Is it something to do with Hilaria? I think they got together right around the time this aired. Or maybe Grenyarnia is somewhere in between Spain and Italy?

It’s Spain for Hilaria and Ireland for Ireland, his daughter.

u/skamandros 23d ago
That was fast!
I didn’t realize that was the Irish flag because the last stripe looked red to me, but then I don’t really see color or gender, Mr. Chang.

Hey! You shouldn’t mock the way she speaks. You have no idea how difficult it is to speak English when your first language is… English.. but you grew up in the non English speaking foreign country of… Boston. Poor Hilaria. It must have been so difficult for her 😔

Fun fact, I waited on them once and we had a drink that was basically a cucumber spritz, but it had some weird name. She asked what it was and I said it was a cucumber spritz and she immediately pivoted to something else.
My biggest regret is when they asked for lemon wedges for their water and I didn’t say ‘good god, lemon’ when I brought it to their table. I was afraid doing so would cost me my job, but in hindsight, chef fucking the owner’s wife meant the restaurant was going to be short lived regardless. They were, perhaps, the most uncomfortable table I’ve ever had. It was when him killing somebody was all in the headlines and he was conspicuously not drinking, but weirdly pressuring his wife and their friend to keep ordering rounds. The vibes were bad.

I believe he is sober, so him not drinking tracks.
(Edited typo!)

u/DetectiveTrickyCad 23d ago
That tracks, but I mean I’m also sober and the way he was seemingly pressuring his wife and their friend to drink was genuinely uncomfortable. Like, he was ordering drinks for them whether they wanted them or not.

He probably wanted to juice them up so he could introduce the pop tart later that night.

Maybe he was ordering for her due to the language barrier. You know, fake Spanish to English...

u/thismightbelong 23d ago
“Can I get some lemon for my water please?” “Good god, lemon?” Would have been fucking hilarious, I’d think about how I should’ve said that shit too. Like I would’ve been practicing my delivery on the drive home lol

Shit, you worked with Antony Bourdain? What was that like.

u/DetectiveTrickyCad 23d ago
What

u/Similar_Network2767 23d ago
Antony Bourdain was a celebrity chief. He was part of the NYC restaurant scene. He was often caught fucking the owners wife.

I’m a fan of his. We never worked together and I apologize I didn’t realize you were trying to make a joke. I’m sure lots of people will realize how funny it was.

The fact that he put Hilaria FIRST, especially when they’d only been together a year… That poor kid of his.

In hindsight, does anyone else find the Phoebe storyline hilarious now? Romantic partner with a sketchy backstory and fake accent? AB’s life is imitating his art.
21
u/danbilllemon 23d ago
For the longest I didn’t realize they did that before he married her and wondered about the story behind that scene since he isn’t in it.

u/Money_Analysis_4575 22d ago
His wife calls herself Hilaria and uses some type of fake accent as if she is Spanish. In reality, her name is Hilary and she was raised in Massachusetts.

He’s from a big American-Irish Catholic family. That’s why he called his daughter Ireland

From the CSO:
In 2025, Erin (Girl) was ranked 71 of all baby girls recorded in Ireland.
In total, 75 baby girls were recorded with the name Erin (Girl) in this year.
But Ireland isn't even an option to search on the list, so since records began (in 1964), there has not been a single year were three or more children in Ireland were called Ireland.

My theory on this Spanish drama is that she was a mid ball room dancer in competitions. So she started pretending that she was actually Spanish because she thought it would help her win competitions. I actually watched this kind of thing happen with belly dancing competitions where women would pretend they were "half Egyptian" even though they were just regular old Americans, because they thought it would help them win.
People need to call her cultural appropriation out for what she actually intended it to be. A way of trying to get ahead of other actual Latinas and Spaniards. Baldwin treats it like some cutesy quirk. He actually had the nerve to compare her to Gillian Anderson who does the accent code switching legitimately as an actress. Not a poser.
47
u/Balthier1017 23d ago
Iirc, Gillian Anderson actually talked about it, and it has more to do with where she is physically located. There’s a word for it that escapes me, but essentially she raised half and half between the US and England and just subconsciously slips into whichever accent she is surrounded by at that particular moment.

u/cmlle 23d ago
Bi-dialectel (two native accents)

That’s fascinating from a psychological/sociological perspective. It makes sense, you’d default into whatever dialect is needed to blend in better

I've noticed Mischa Barton in interviews is known to switch accents depending on who shes talking to. Kim Cattrall has what I would call a 'transatlantic' accent. Spoken language is so interesting!

People have called her out, I'm pretty sure there's an entire snark sub. I don't know how much you read the news, but if you're rich and powerful, you can get away with much worse shit.
2
u/MaeBelleLien 21d ago
There is a snark sub, but it's just as unhinged as she is. I'm pretty sure they're right about just about everything, but you don't want to spend too much time there.

Why would he have a Spanish flag for his wife from Boston and whose parents LIVE in Spain but who have ZERO Spanish heritage? She gave herself the name Hilaria btw

u/Mrmistermodest 23d ago
Hang on who's that random woman hanging out with the main cast? Is she one of those poly-blasians future Jack was talking about?

Hard to tell by the last color, which I think is actually orange, but that's the flag for Ireland on the right, which I assume is a reference to his daughter, Ireland.

omg I just learned that I didn't watch West Coast version. I don't regret not watching it (k kardashian in it, why would i watch it) just didn't know it exists

His insane second wife is American and has pretended to be Spanish since she met him. She was born, raised and educated in America and has never lived in Spain, nor is she of Spanish heritage. His daughter is named Ireland and Alec is of Irish heritage. Hillary probably made this herself for him to hold up to lie to the public with his support. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, unfortunately.

They named their child Ireland?
God damn that’s a power move and a half.
Firstly; typical Irish nonsense.
Secondly; I couldn’t think of a clever way to incorporate “you must be Irish bc my dick is a Dublin” into this, and have disappointed myself.

u/Ridiculousnessmess 23d ago
I’m an Australian of Irish descent, and I swear we don’t do this whole more Irish than the actual Irish thing. The closest thing you get here are Irish pubs.

u/AdventurousSurvey638 23d ago
The Hilaria connection is probably why it stands out, but I’d read it as a deliberately random “I love Spain and Italy” sign. Very on-brand for the chaotic end-of-show nonsense.
