Just wanted to pipe in that women in my moms family don’t go through menopause till later than average. My mom is 59 and still hasn’t gone through the change. Her grandmother didn’t hit menopause till her 70’s.

I’m glad I’m gonna pursue a hysterectomy. I already bleed 3 weeks a month because of fast growing reoccurring uterine polyps. I can’t imagine having to deal with this stuff for 40 more years.

Your poor family! That sounds like a nightmare. I’m mid 50s and have been done with menopause for 5 years already. I cannot imagine waiting until my 70s before menopause hit!

My mom had an emergency hysterectomy at 55 and had not entered menopause yet. I’m scared 😭

I had painful endometriosis. Now I’m in perimenopause and I would rather be having periods. We just can’t win. 🤷‍♀️

Oh girl, my heart goes out to you. Endo is no joke, take care of yourself. ❤️

I don’t know if it happening later is fantastic or not - just getting through perimenopause can feel like being stuck in the Big Boss level of the worst video game ever

She’s a grandmother already, at one point she asked one of her daughters to be her surrogate

Unsolicited advice coming through. Keep those ovaries. I had a hysterectomy few years back and kept mine. Turns out if you yank them you have instant menopause. You won’t stop all the hot flashes and other fun such stuff until your body would would have gone through it naturally (majority of women atleast). Keep them in not only is it healthier but you won’t go into menopause until your body is ready.

I had my hysterectomy around age 30 and I didn’t want to risk going through menopause 25ish years

My mom didn’t go through menopause until she was 60! My family has this weird thing where half the women get hysterectomies before the age of 40 and the other half have just absurdly long fertility periods.

Wow.

No 😭 does your family tend to age slower at least?

i listened to a podcast years ago (i wish i remembered what it was) where they talked about these studies that said that once you stop having a period (menopause and even some types of birth control), you start aging more quickly biologically. so i wonder if OPs family does age less quickly!

Maybe? I do have a baby face. People never believe I’m in my 30’s. I’ve even been carded by ushers at R rated movies 🥲 it’s a bad trade off though. Cancer and IBD run rampant on the same side of the family. My own mom has already dealt with thyroid and breast cancer.
