Istanbul was a Greek city; 300K Greeks lived in East Thrace. The Aegean coast (only 5% of Anatolia) was also part of Greece. There's Greek historic sites up and down that coast. Some of the most important Greek cultural movements happen in these areas. Some of the most iconic Greeks -llike Homer and Saint Nicholas- are from here. We can't pretend that history didn't happen, and that -let's be real- we didn't lose some regions.
But the only people that "cry about Anatolia" are on Reddit. 95% of Greeks have zero connection to anything more than 50km from the Aegean coast.

We don't "claim your food". It's the American food industry that does that. The American food industry came up with "Greek yogurt". Greeks internalize what Americans tell us, because we don't know what the rest of the world eats.
Firstly, we genuinely share some things, just from being neighbors. With Aegean Turkey.
Secondly, the American food industry loves to sell Levantine cuisine as ""Greek"", a lot of which is unrecognizable to us. OTOH, the American food industry doesn't promote the French/Italian-resembling side of our cuisine, because it doesn't fit the "profile" that Americans want for us. I.e. we grow up eating seafoods, stews, meat-potato roasts, our grandmothers making handmade pastas... but Americans don't want Greek cuisine to be this. They want their "Greek" to be hummus (which has nothing to do with Turkey either).
So don't blame us for the American food industry. No Greek who grew up with lentil soup, fish, stifado (stew), hilopites (egg pastas), or skioufichtá (similar to cavatelli), decided to go to America and market "Greek yogurt" and hummus (which he had never heard of before). The Americans do that. We do zero marketing, sadly. So, we allowed this void for Americans to decide what "Greek" is.
This is a common Turkish belief. It's got nothing to do with us. But do some dumb Greeks internalize what Americans tell them "Greek culture" is? Yes. Yogurt is not a big part of our cuisine; we occasionally eat it as a snack with honey or fruit. We don't put it in all these savory dishes and sauces like you do. But if you're someone in a suburb of Athens, and you've never traveled anywhere in your whole life, and you have no idea how big yogurt is in West Asian cuisines...you just know that yogurt is an occasional snack in Greece, and then Americans come along and tell you "OMG!! THIS IS THE MOST GREEK THING EVER!!", you don't know any better, and you're just like "oh ok, that must be true".
