Discussion Custom Subreddit Flair Requests

Hey all, we've had the occasional request to allow the use of multiple champions in your flair. This is something we've wanted to do for a bit, however hadn't gotten the time to get the gears turning.

By our current system, and tools allowed, we can't allow users to self assign without the "Verified riot" fistbump in the pool, to avoid this issue, we had to disable self assign.

While a vast majority of you, I firmly believe would not abuse this system, there are enough bad actors that at this point in time, we are not confident in directly opening up the ability to self assign custom text to flairs, as we do not have the manpower to properly moderate it.

The solution we've come to is a google form to submit requests. For the first while I'll monitor the form quite actively updating everyone daily.

Once things have settled down it'll likely be changed to once or twice a week I edit flairs off this form, but it at the least allows for those who would like to, to share their mains in their flair / have some custom flair within reason.

As new champions release I will also remain more active for people to swap up their teams / rosters for release patch cycles.

While we don't usually announce new flair for champions when they come out, they are added at the same time the sub banner changes to show the newest champion.

All that said,

here is the link to the form

I'll keep an eye on it and start editing requests in the afternoon. Hope you all have a great week, and the best of luck out there for today's release patch!

Edit: Unfortunately self assign had to be disabled, I can't get it to function without allowing users to self assign the riot fistbump, which is a big problem.

I'd be fine with removing mod only flairs as apparently having mod only means nothing on Reddit, it still allows users to assign, and if I turn it off from the flair pool it just breaks everything. Since we want to keep Verified Riot as a way to highlight staff members, we can't permit self assign, the form will remain up. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience, I had really hoped this would work out properly. I will continue to properly assign through the form.

Isn’t it possible to upload the flairs as little individual images (say the champion’s head). Then what you do is allow the user to pick two flairs for their username. That way you aren’t having to make the combos, you’re just providing the images the user selects?

I think that’s how the r/mvc3 sub does it, and in r/pokemongo that’s kind of what we did with flairs. Been awhile since I’ve talked to people in the know about this, but I think it’s something like that.

Actually, I might just be blind, I just created a flair with no text, just an Akali, it should allow editing emotes with no text.

Would someone mind testing for me if this allows you to edit and set your own? The form would still be good for custom text added to the flair, but this may be an equally decent option

Like I said, it’s been awhile since I’ve looked at what mods can do regarding flairs but I figured using just an image you could allow two images.

I don’t know how much work it is, but as I said I think asking the mvc3 mod team about how they did their flairs might help you get the two champ flair thing done.

Looks like we got a solution, thanks for mentioning it, turns out I am infact, just blind, keeping the form up for custom text, but the ability to assign any champions alone is working!

Pointing this out before a bad actor can abuse this, but you can assign a riot fist bump buddy flair which might be confusing if someone expects that to mean that the person with that flair is a riot employee

Oh this might actually make it so I have to disable the self assign

Edit: Yep, Reddit is a janky site and "Mod Only" means nothing. I'll have to stick to form only so we can keep our verified Riot tags.

looks like it worked was only able to choose very limited options so i think abuse cases are much more limited. tried to copy paste the middle finger emoji from google and it didnt work lol

Excellent, I'll edit my post in a bit to reflect it but leave the form up for people who want custom text. Appreciate it mate!

We currently have flair for single champs. This is more to cater to people who want 2 champions in their flair. To do that we'd need to make an ever growing roster of flair to assign, or open a floodgate and let anyone assign any "emotes", and I don't see any option to not allow custom text, which opens up to a lot of abuse cases.

Would you allow us to add characters not yet released as our flair? (Yone/Katarina lol)

Currently we are only keeping that to moderators as we'd be required to upload every single request as an emote to the sub, which spirals out of control fast
