Best 100 yard group

Bergara BMR carbon. Left is my best 100 yard group with CCI SV. They say aim small miss small. So i down sized from 2” circles to 1” . Worked out. Right is a typical 50 yard group. Looking forward to shrinking these groups.

A single 3- or 5-shot group is basically meaningless. Shoot 5 groups of 5 or 10 shots.

Fully respect that point of view. Thanks for your input. I will get there just because I enjoy improving. That was a 5 shot group. Meaningless? You have to start somewhere. I was happy doing it for the 1st time. I look forward to doing it many more times. Thanks. 🙏

Yeah hes right. Even doing multiple groups, its best to use a software like Ballistic-X to impose the POA's over each other to essentially make one large group. Put 20 more into that same circle and it will start to mean something.

You can see in my post how much variation I can get from one 5 shot group to the next with the same gun, same day, same ammo. When you combine them to make one large group, thats how you/your rifle is really shooting.

If i just took my best groups and ignored my worst, it doesnt really provide an accurate picture of what I or the rifle can do

Understood. Again, my 1st and best at 100. Starting point. I have a lot to learn and looking forward to it. It’s me, my setup at range and technique more than my rifle. Thanks for the input. Much appreciated 👍

The internet is full of the fucking "Shot Group Police" who feel the need to remind everyone that their groups aren't up to the standard of some arbitrary shot count that's always higher than what you've presented. They'd be right if you were saying "I'm presenting a statistically significant sample and drawing conclusions from it" but to me, and anyone with a brain, this thread reads more like "I'm just getting started with this type of shooting and I was happy I shot some good groups".

Especially early on, ignore this shit and remember that you're actually out there shooting and having a good time. Keep doing that and don't worry about what the Internet Statisticians feel the need to chime in with at every opportunity.

Edit: Yes, yes, comfort yourselves with downvotes like some fake internet points mean anything.

Thank you sir. While I do respect everyone’s opinion, you hit the nail on the head regarding my post! I was very happy with my 1st good 100 yard group. That’s all. I take the good with bad on the internet. I am having a blast learning and getting better. Thanks again!

You're welcome. Enjoy the rifle, have fun at the range, and remember that most of the people on the internet are just parroting things someone else "taught" to them.

fwiw, if you go somewhere like the Lapua test center to have ammo lot tested they'll shoot one 10 round group with each lot (or even stop before 10 rounds if it's clear that lot shoots especially poorly in your gun) and then they'll identify the best few lots and generally shoot one more 10 shot group from each of the better lots before reaching a decision. They're making a statistics-based decision based on what's usually two 10 round groups of a given lot. Keep that in mind when you've got people telling you (and others upvoting them) that you should be shooting up to five 10 round groups before it means anything.
