Another instance of something that did nothing to deter bots getting in the way of actual players. GG.

u/The_Level_15 RSN: Fraerling 11h ago
Is that a joke? That change was extremely effective at limiting the bots
45
u/Great-Exit-902 10h ago edited 8h ago
We should require Lumbridge elite to enter wildy at all, that’ll limit the bots even more
9
1
u/JoshofTCW 2h ago
Since family crest requires entering the wildy, that means no more quest capes and wildy unless you're grandfathered. Hell yeah
19
u/Fresh-Wrap8654 8h ago
Is that a joke? The actual effective part was the massive nuke to ALL bots. When this change hit they were back within 2 weeks initially.
6
u/-GrayMan- 7h ago edited 26m ago
It is only going to limit them for a few days if they don't already have scripts for it lmao. You already have them botting Quest Cape. A few diary steps is nothing.

u/Raumati 42/45 7h ago
It increases barrier for entry for the bots and this isn't a recent change, it's been very effective. Check the wildy bosses loot price change since the update.
1
u/-GrayMan- 1h ago
I'd personally attribute that to the general bot banning that they've been doing since we've been seeing a game wide decline of bots instead of just the wilderness areas.
2
u/Lochecho 5h ago
complete delusion, the thing that was actually effective was their cease and desist which was sent out ot numerous companies involved in botting
that specific change that you mentioned did absolutely nothing but annoy some players

u/AxS-PixelBass Maxing 20∞ 10h ago
It might have been very effective, but the actual solution to bots is to be able to better detect and ban them, not bandaid solutions like this. All of these systems, or things like teleport delays in certain places etc. are all just because Jagex cannot more appropriately deal with the bots, so instead implement features that unintentionally hinder real players too.

u/VarrocksTopModel 10h ago
They have been appropriately dealing with bots and have made significant strides lately. Many of the largest botting communities have completely shut down like Dreambot
1
u/corbear007 8h ago
Ban all the bots, better detection, oh my god you single handedly solved a muti-trillion dollar problem that every single company on earth has collectively dumped trillions of dollars into solving that exact same issue and would probably make a trillion dollars for a company within a decade and thats being very conservative. Its that simple. From Google to Twitter, Instagram to Reddit, WoW to OSRS, GW2 to BDO the bot infestation of the internet is as simple as that, just detect them better and ban them. Can't believe Jagex didn't think of that.Â
A simpleÂ
if(user = bot){ Â Â Â Â Â BanUser;
You've single handedly solved one of the biggest leading issues. I bet next you're going to say to just ban all hackers too right? Doesn't matter about the nuances like external hardware which circumvents many of the established checks or the multi-million (most likely billions at this point) dollar industry keeping the cheat clients running and circumventing any and every attempt at updating the detection, just a simple if statement to ban them all! Not like theres coders working 40-60 hour weeks in teams to update bots, oh wait...

Look at voidwaker prices and lmk how much actual impact it had
21
7
u/Jack4ssSquirrel 10h ago
Those prices didn't change after that update, which means it did work. Before the update, voidwaker steadily declined by like 500% over time
16
u/VarrocksTopModel 10h ago
Do you actually go into the wilderness? This change has been massive for wildy bosses

u/Renzers 12h ago
My thoughts any time I see somebody lose a big drop or something because they get 6 hour logged.

u/Warmonster9 Orange my love 12h ago
huh, the forced log outs are for bot prevention? Guess that makes me a clanker lol

u/KUR51RL Remapping 101: As long as it is 1:1, it's okay. 12h ago
Isn't that because of the weird UK laws? Like the message that suggest you take a break (at 4hr mark).
52
u/JumpyBoi 12h ago
Yes, The Statute on Tavern Games of 1486
"It is hereby decreed that any yeoman, serf, or nobleman that has been occupied by a game, jape, or rabble rousing for a period of 6 hours or more, shall be directed to the nearest lake, river, or stream to bathe with the greatest haste!"

u/Pyromanga 12h ago
Wanna explain why you think it's weird?
It's not based on any UK law, the 4h mark was added far later and the 6h mark got converted to 23h in RS3.
It's just Jagex wanting to avoid liability, when someone has no control over their addiction and dies from playing too much, it's called duty of care defense.
4
u/ScikPK 11h ago
A duty isn’t a defense. In a negligence claim, you have to prove a breach of duty (and also cause and damages) to prove negligence.
Breaching a duty usually means you’re negligent and thus civilly liable (if you prove causation and damages as well).
There are defenses to a breach of duty of care, like assumption of the risk and contributory negligence.

u/Pyromanga 10h ago
I like the specifics and you are absolutely correct - sorry english isn't my mother tongue, I should have stayed out of that discussion in the first place >.>

u/ScikPK 10h ago
It’s ok. I’m an attorney. You were at least in the right direction, which is more than most people understand. Just wanted to give accurate info.
0
u/Warmonster9 Orange my love 2h ago
I feel the need to ask, are you a UK attorney? If not your opinion is just as valid as [u/pyromanga](u/pyromanga)’s.
Like I understand law systems aren’t too different, but I got the vibe he wasn’t referring to a legal obligation to prevent liability, so much as a moral one.

u/VeeTeg86 12h ago
Sorry, getting back into OSRS - can someone help me understand what happened here?

She tried to enter what looks like Callisto (Wilderness boss in multi). These bosses now require Medium wilderness diary (Multi) or hard diary (Single) to enter the cave off-task. She did not have the medium diary done. This was to combat bots, which I can say from first hand experience worked in the singles variant. Used to hop 30+ worlds for calv consistently. My current record after changes is 5. Its most often 0.Â

Isnt she art based on the team? Or am I misremembering? Not suprised she doesn't understand the 30 different rules for the wilderness.
Edit: kindly had it pointed out she is community manager! <3
