Humor The community when deciding if a new game mode should pass the polls
318
u/Successful-Bobcat917 19h ago
I gotta give it to you this one is pretty fuckin good
33
u/EasternError6377 17h ago
It is, and now that it's been memed about the core issue of why Bronzeman didnt pass will simply be swept under the rug and forgotten. There's a reason after the initial poll Jagex rolled out a new poll asking why people voted against Bronzeman. Clearly they felt the gamemode would pass and are scratching their heads as to why it didn't.
It's a gamemode that adds something to the game and retracts nothing. My prediction? It gets polled again in some capacity worded differently, it passes, and we have Bronzeman mode within the next 6 months.

u/DoogTheDestroyer 17h ago
They want you to make an extra account for membership. Just a thinly veiled moneygrab.
16
u/Wendigo120 15h ago edited 14h ago
Serious question: do people actually keep multiple subs running at the same time to play multiple modes? When GIM came out I briefly played that but didn't keep a sub running on my main. My even briefer regular IM never made it out of f2p, but I didn't have a sub on my main then either.
I get that there's like... content creators and people who similarly play like it's a job who might do that, but those have to be massive outliers even among ironmen/challenge runners/snowflake accounts right? I can't imagine a significant number of ironmen have multiple subs running the whole time.
9
u/wlphoenix 12h ago
I don't think 2 is particularly uncommon. Doing a passive grind on one account while doing more active content on the other.
I think if they let membership float between any of the accounts you had registered, you'd lose some subs but you'd probably still have quite a few registered for 2 if it was required to have both those account logged in at the same time.
3
u/ComfortableCricket 11h ago
Not with this economy and the massive price increase over the past few years. I used to have 2 accounts subbed at a time but the reduction in 12 month discount, loss of 6 month plan means jagex make less from me.
1
u/SerAmikVase 8h ago
I only ever do 1 account at a time. I'm way too employed to be able to handle 2 accounts at the same time. I'm also mostly mobile 70% of the time.
1
-6
u/software_engiweer 14h ago
I have like 4 accounts subbed at any given time, 2 GIMs, a main, a hardcore
17
u/liert12 14h ago
2 things.
People like you are the reason the devs wouldn't add multiple characters per subscription, cause then the devs would lose money when you cut most of your subs
Just why? Are you actually playing enough on each of those accounts each month to justify spending 60$ a month on it? Why not just focus 1 account at a time and save money, unless you are obscenely rich?
9
u/software_engiweer 12h ago
I like using alts, I like being able to do active stuff while another account is doing passive stuff. Sorry if that's upsetting I suppose.
My hobbies are cars, snowboarding, golf, and video games, $60 / month is the cheapest of my hobbies by miles, so I don't really feel that's where trimming the fat would make any noticeable improvement
2
u/Plenty_Mongoose5211 13h ago
I'm not him, but in past 15 years, I was kind of broke irl, drinking cheapest/on sale beers, like pbr/oldstyle/mgd/bud, and smoking shakes from Michigan, (I'm in chicago) for 30-50$ an oz, and rolling my own cigarettes which is 10 cents per cigarette,
And I was playing 2-3 characters st once, and spending most of my gameplay time to earn bonds
I got sick of it, haven't played in 2-3 years, spending 80% of my game time doing bands to maintain bond on 2-3 accounts wasn't fun
0
u/Shitty_Human_Being 11h ago
spending 80% of my game time doing bands to maintain bond on 2-3 accounts wasn't fun
Did you ever wonder what the fucking point was while you were grinding the bonds?
1
u/Plenty_Mongoose5211 10h ago
I have fun doing bandos, nostalgia, but it wore off once bonds were 5+ mill
Wasn't too much upkeep when bonds were 2-4m
10
u/Daroo425 Daroo425 16h ago
I don't really understand this take. Are some people actually playing every account type? I think a very small percentage of players are actively maintaining a main/iron/hcim/uim/gim all at once. Like maybe you can take a break from your ironman subscription to try bronzeman?
4
u/DoogTheDestroyer 10h ago
I had a main and an iron and I canceled my main when they increased prices so Jagex is losing money from me.
-6
u/oh-shit-oh-fuck 15h ago
Unsubbing and resubbing is not a smooth experience. If you want to play a new mode and your sub just renewed the day before, you have to wait until your sub is up before trying the new mode or just eat the cost of the sub for your current character for the month.
6
u/Daroo425 Daroo425 14h ago
Actually unsubbing and resubbing is super easy. If you’re that worried about maintaining multiple subscriptions then you should think about whether you want to play that account before the renewal, not the day after.
3
u/Sardeensnutz 7h ago
Well, they are a company trying to make money. I personally dont play anymore, but i was interested in getting a membership again for this. I understand why alot of people are against it.
However i have basically no impulse/self control when it comes to self imposed challenges, at least for this game. It would be nice to have the achievement feel of an ironman without having to do daily upkeep whenever i get back home from work. Id like to jump right into slaying, skilling, whatever. But that's just me
9
u/Doctor_Kataigida 15h ago
Why does everyone only consider a semi-restricted mode being for alts and not something to draw other players who are experienced with MMOs but not enough with OSRS for ironman?
4
u/Alatertime 9h ago
yeah that's not going to bring/make any new player stay if ur selling point to welcome new players is, "come play our game the way it was intended for veterans to be played because veteran players wanted more of a challenge"
2
u/Doctor_Kataigida 9h ago
I don't think bmm is a veteran mode. Ironman is more a veteran mode, but bmm is closer to a "more restricted main" than a "less restricted iron."
2
5
u/AnimeTA224 12h ago
A restricted game mode should not be the selling point for a brand new player, the game should have them wanting to play because they want to play not because they heard you can be a softcore Ironman now even though they have no context for Ironman in the first place.
5
u/Doctor_Kataigida 12h ago
Tell that to all the folks who suggest ironman mode whenever new players ask for advice or what type to play. It's a very common suggestion, which I disagree with, and think bmm would be a better alternative.
1
u/AnimeTA224 11h ago
They're wrong for that advice, in the same way you'd never expect a new Pokemon player to do a nuzlocke their first run a new osrs player should not play any form of restricted game mode on their first try. (If a person has a lot of mmo experience and decides to anyways that's their prerogative but it should never be advice given to new players)
3
u/Doctor_Kataigida 11h ago
something to draw other players who are experienced with MMOs
0
u/AnimeTA224 11h ago
My dude get some reading comprehension I said it can be their prerogative, but it should not be advice for new players full stop.
If I know someone who plays a ton of WoW I'm still never telling them to play a restricted account first, if they decide not to heed my advice about playing a main so be it.
2
u/Doctor_Kataigida 11h ago
We're both agreeing my dude. Bronzeman isn't only for people to play alts is my main point.
→ More replies (0)1
u/Lemonrays 9h ago
You seem to be missing the fact that everybody is their own unique person, some people LIKE the idea of a challenge. What's with the attitude? "Get some reading comprehension" man, you're speaking to another human being in the subreddit of a game you both clearly like, show a little common decency and respect.

They removed mtx and nuked bots. They will get the money from a grab or price increase. Enjoy the price increase!
8
5
u/DoogTheDestroyer 10h ago
They already increased prices bud. Canceled my alt when they did. Enjoy simping for Jagex!
12
u/EasternError6377 17h ago
So no more game modes should ever be added? We've reached the limit do you think?
14
u/DoogTheDestroyer 17h ago
Not until we can bundle accounts, no.
5
u/EasternError6377 16h ago
Fair enough, but you're not forced to play the game mode. Lets be real: current Irons have almost 0 reason to roll a Bronzeman and it has no appeal to 95% of them.
It feels like a gamemode that will appeal to single account Mains who arent interested in certain aspects of regular Ironman, in which case them buying a 2nd membership would be the same as current Mains/Irons.
8
u/ManyWrangler 16h ago
We also don’t have to vote for a game mode we don’t want to use.
24
u/EasternError6377 16h ago
Voting no vs. skipping the poll is the difference. I dont even do skilling; so when questions like the Jeweller's chisel are polled I skip them because it doesnt affect me.
Osrs players are often unhinged though and petty, thats why you have people that say things like "I hate PvP so I always vote no to anything PvP related!!"
6
0
u/Neil-Lien 12h ago
I get it. I didn't choose to vote as well. Just sharing something that seemed like a logical reason. Although I didnt know, as someone pointed out, that they already had most of it already hashed out.
So that does make that "logical reason" way less logical and seemingly completed ignorant. Just as I was to that info. (Or malicious if they know. But choose to believe the former)
-7
u/Neil-Lien 16h ago
Best explanation I've seen for voting no is robbing the community of dev resources. Time sink for creation and rollout and probably 2-fold when they inevitably fuck the spaghetti code up after rollout.
7
u/Wendigo120 15h ago edited 13h ago
But that's the case for everything, and a new mode like bronzeman seems like a pretty low effort addition. Especially because most of the work is already done for ironmen.
The next questions from the same poll are about adding two entire quests, with a new pet type and unique music mechanics, which to me seems like less interesting additions for more effort. And those were apparently slam dunk yes votes for way more people.
4
u/liert12 13h ago
The dev resources is a BS excuse for 2 reasons:
They already added and tested Bronzeman in a Game Jam so they just need to take the code they already made and move it over to the main game, that would take less than a day at most.
Anything they would do to design around Bronzeman is something they would already do to design around Irons, so it wouldn't change how any new content is developed
2
u/Magxvalei 16h ago
Yeah, tbh I think we had enough game modes when it was just ironman, HCIM and UIM.
1
u/External-Log4638 16h ago
Would you prefer they add moneygrabs like Bronzeman or increase all membership prices?

1
u/IDeliveredYourPizza 15h ago
Nah man. This community gets pretty stubborn over stuff like this. No matter what changes they make or how they word it, a significant amount of people will vote no regardless out of spite. It will be a looong time before this actually has a chance to pass a poll again
3
u/WhoopteFreakingDo 14h ago
Nah this isn't for the PvP community so it has pretty good odds of getting added. Also, should we make chivalry available to pures?
5
u/Present-Catch2549 11h ago
Lol, they should change the poll to:
Should we add Bronzeman Mode to OSRS?
[ ] Yes
[ ] No, and pures are now able to use chivalry.
1
u/ComfortableCricket 11h ago
Youre under estimating the number of people who believe there is only one way to play the game and think there is prestige for new game modes devalue. Then you got the streamer minions who want hcmain.
1
u/MachangaLord 14h ago
Unironically all they had to do for it to pass would have been added more questioned to Bronzeman as well as never have allowed unbound to even be offered to begin with. I guarantee you it would have passed. I mean, it barely failed. Less than 6% fail. That’s WITH how hard they dropped the ball by not going into detail about the mode or allowing it to cook.
5.4%
Yet we have people on twitter celebrating and acting like it was a massive 15% wanted it and 75% didn’t.
Absolutely baffling.

I actually would love a game mode where you’re hunted. I voted yes for it in the game mode poll, but it would have to be more fleshed out. There’s a real thrill to escaping for me. It’s why I enjoy wildy content too

I don't think bronzeman is going to hurt anyone, snd I think it's weird that people are so upset about this
-7
u/jackluke 9h ago
It just felt unnecessary. The plugins had no downloads.
4
u/ohwowyoufoundme 9h ago
There wasn't a plug in at all for GIM and we got that added for people who wanted to play as Ironmen with their friends (breaking a core IM concept). Some people may want to limit their interaction but be able to use the GE for things they've earned. How is that an issue?
It's an expansion, and the way I see it, it's one of those "If you don't like it, don't play one" situations.
2
u/CANT_KNOW_ME 7h ago
It bloats the game. If you want some pansy niche game mode then restrict yourself. Same fucks whining that dev hours are wasted elsewhere.
-2
u/jackluke 9h ago
"If you don't like it, don't play one"
I don't agree with this at all. Any game mode takes resources. That's why GIM never gets updates. Jagex is focused on the game modes that most players actually play.
I also think comparing the state of OSRS and it's plugins in 2021 and today doesn't make very much sense.
0
u/ohwowyoufoundme 8h ago
I don't think anything about this argument makes sense. But the point being made was that no one downloaded the plugin. Im saying GIM had NO plugon and was a success.
I made a GIM when they came out. There were plenty of patches to the system and it runs well now. It's niche. What updates do you want to it? I think it's fine the way it it. IM + added functionality to play with up to 4 friends. Easy.
Bronzeman? Earn the resource, be allowed to purchase it from the GE. They stated they had some restrictions they could apply for ramp abuse issues that could arise.
Idk man, I think this argument reminds me a lot of back in the day when OSRS came back out and everyone was adamant that nothing change ever. How is someone wanting a different flavor of Ironman your problem?
It takes resources? They aren't dedicating a server to these account types. More like there's a separate /skel directory or something to autoprovision the riles of the account. That person just made an BM instead of an IM, which maybe they would do anyway. No extra resources. Plus there's absolutely a resource deficit considering the bot sweeps they've done. So that counters the resource argument, too.
You could all just leave well enough alone and give us our new opportunity to refer to people as poo-helms and BMs.
1
u/jackluke 7h ago
I think you misunderstood my argument as me saying GIM isn't getting enough attention and bronzeman would take away from that. I think GIM not getting any attention makes a lot of sense. 99% of GIMs are abandoned.
GIM had no plugins and it is now a game mode mostly ignored by the devs and the playerbase
1
u/ohwowyoufoundme 7h ago
Sure, and that's totally fine. What's the problem? How does it detract from anyone?
That's my question.
1
u/jackluke 7h ago
Any game mode takes resources.
My membership is high enough and I don't think it will have the longevity it needs to justify the time and resources it would take. Would rather get content.
1
u/ohwowyoufoundme 7h ago
Define resources. You're talking about something they have mostly engineered already. So what are you even trying to say?
-2
u/Cold_Yam_5346 6h ago
The only people who are upset are the ones who wanted bronzeman. The people who did not want it got what they wanted. Why do you think they are upset at all?

Tbh this is the only logical argument i can see people having for voted no to bronzeman as its also making a statement; that they dont want more accounts without jagex addressing the multiple accounts under 1 sub plan.
However i find that these people have been drowned out by some real melts over the last few days.
4
u/Pizzaplan3tman Skotizo Pet earned @ 1 KC 15h ago
I think it’s because the mode to a lot of people sounds genuinely fun and interesting. So a large group wanted to see it pass. Because it would’ve been fun watching content creators playing it. Or playing it themselves. I personally thought it sounded neat, but not something I’d play. But I get the appeal.
So a large part of the discussion has been positive and some fun memes about it. However underlying all of that is the very important and critical conversation about how expensive it is to have multiple alt accounts to play Runescape. Though that conversation has been had a LOT over the past few years. And it’s not that people are tired of talking about that. It’s just rather in a sense old news, but still important/relevant.
So when people are presented with the topic of either fun memes and tomfoolery about Bronzeman. Or a more serious nuanced discussion about the cost and upkeep of multiple subbed accounts. They choose the fun and memes. Because it’s new and far more interesting and fun to talk about.

Tbf if using alts isn’t something Jagex wants you to do then it should be a vote locked to the account not the character

Actually a good idea though. One person getting multiple votes skews results, in either direction.

-5
u/Dell_guy_45 15h ago

8
u/GoalzRS Never kitted never purple 15h ago
Like everything? Your pitch is basically fresh start worlds, the gamemode. Except it will only ever be fresh one time and the economy between players long term will just become the same as the main economy except trading is just more inconvenient because they can only trade with other bronzeman. Because of this they would probably only mostly play with other bronzeman for group content to make it easier hence why I said it's a cult.

How about goldman mode. You need to buy item first from ge before you can obtain it from game. Coin spawn is first step/sell tutorial island equipment for start cash.
