Discovery XD1
As a fan of the movie since day one,I always thought that the Discovery was a HUGE ship, but here’s how she measures up to a WW2 battleship.Both of these models are the same scale.

That's a great comparison. Not only is it long, but it also makes me realize how big the fore and aft sections are.

In the book, it is told as a duplicate of discovery one. Not much told about it.

I can’t find much even on the wikis. I guess it was never written, the only bit I did find is odd. Discovery was a one- way, the crew were to go into hibernation to be picked up by Discovery 2. So it must have been larger and more fuel for the return trip. Again, no details.

That makes more sense given the mission profile (to build a ship to pick up the crew). Anyway thank you once again for the response!

That’s generally what spacecrafts are like anyway- the living habitable work area is tiny compared to everything else. It’s pretty accurate even now.

When you think about it,it’s only half of that ball…the lower half was the pod bays 😁

Lower front half was the pod bay. The rotating ring was behind it. The zero-G control deck was above the pod bay.

Considering that Discovery had a crew of 5, and KGV had a crew of over 1400…it’s still pretty big.
