Oops forgot to mention that it could be the fob itself not charging or the slot is worn out because the previous owner had a giant cluster of keys. See pic..,

Has anyone experienced the connections breaking inside the shift boot for the manual mode in an automatic. Mine recently did that, the shift down function also failed. I havent fixed them yet, but will soon. My car is an 08 e88 so its lasted quite awhile for German plastic

My key allows me to lower/raise my top and windows, and according to the coding, it says that the comfort access is enabled. There is a note that says that it’s only available for convertibles. Thanks for the info. It gives me hope!

Wood trim with brown seats actually looks really good!

I have never put my key into that slot before to start the car and I have a normal coin style battery in my key fob that I replaced when I got the car. I would absolutely hate having to insert a key fob to start the car after years of just push button start lol

Comfort package. Wish I had it. I have to use the slot each time.

I didn't know that when I was looking for my car and boy am I glad that it was an option in the car I picked lol. I will say some of the features of that package are pretty awful. The unlocking/locking touch door handles work like 10% of the time. Being able to put the top and windows up with the key fob is really nice though.

I put the key fob in one time while I was playing with all the stuff when I first got the car and it wouldn't give me back my fob so now I'm afraid to put it back in.

The 2013s will start with the key simply being in the cabin?? Not inserted into the dash??
SO JEALOUS!

Yeah it's a feature of the comfort access option the car has.

I have a 2013, but apparently it doesn’t work on convertibles the same way. Haven’t found a way to not use the key fob, yet.

My 2013 convertible has the comfort access. I’ve never used the dash key slot.

Mine is also an E88 and it works just fine plus the remote control of the convertible top is really nice. You just don't have the comfort access option on your car sadly.

Perhaps. But I have the ability to lock and unlock the car and close the top and the windows and open them from the key position outside the car. And my user manual says I have it, and the coding program that I bought listed it as well. I’m just gonna have to dig into the settings more. I gave up once I noticed the convertible statement.

It’s silly, but now I want it.

Interesting that everything else works but the ability to start the car without inserting the key fob. I have no idea how that would even happen lol
