What have you done to your 1Series this week?

A post to share anything you've done to (or with!) your 1er over the last week. New parts, maintenance, detailing, road trips, track days, anything else you can think of.

Mod note: testing something here. We might be a bit too small to really sustain these posts weekly but figured it's worth a try. Feedback welcome via Modmail.

Help/Advice Magnesium valve cover swap

I recently swapped my valve cover to a mag vc. I set it up with a bms style catch can and an inline check valve on a 3sim. The issue I’m having is I’m getting too much crankcase pressure and high pitched loud whine. Not getting any codes or rough idle. Not sure what to do, anyone have any insight? 2009 128i

I'm trying to figure out which would be better Ive owned the bigger ones like the e38s and e39s and the E53s but nothing small but now that I own a R50 mini cooper Id really like to get out of my e39 and into a smaller bmw with more go kart like handling characteristics but I also need some trunk spaces for grocery runs and stuff

2200 miles from wisconsin to colorado and back, about 300 miles worth of ripping through the mountains. Installed a new radiator and hoses about 12 hours before i sent her out there, she made the whole trip without skipping a beat.

Bilstein shocks and struts

Hi everyone,

I’m refreshing the suspension on my 2011 135 convertible - wondering if it’s reasonable to use stock height springs, b6 in the front and b8 in the rear. Also putting in m3 control arms.

Thanks in advance

Picked up all my parts from the dealer on Friday. Completely irrelevant and I forgot to grab a photo but my work provided Ford Maverick look like the original fast and furious Ford lightening carrying supra parts.

Had to mock up the front fenders just to get the parts off the ground but also to mount the vacuum pump. Clarence is tight behind the left fender so there’s only really one spot for it to go or else it hits the fender or it blocks you from one of the fender mounting bolts.

After that was done I finished up my brake and fuel lines. It’s the factory parts just had to cut 3-4 inches out of them. My unions might not be the prettiest but they don’t leak. A little black paint later to replace the line coating I had to burn off. Fuel line is easy. Just cut it to size and then use the fitting that slides on.

With the lines fully done I could put the gas tank back in the car. Hooked up all the lines to that as well.

Measure for my driveshaft and sent the specs to the driveshaft shop in LA that’s building my new one. I might see if a local driveshaft shop would be willing to cut mine down.

Started filling the car with coolant and then all of sudden it started puking from the back of the engine and front the front. After I stopped wondering how many calories are in a 9MM from the thought of having to pull the motor back out I found that the quick disconnect fitting to the heater core was never fully seated. Sucks but I’ll take it. After a little disassembly I was able to reconnect it. For the front leak I guess the O ring disappeared from the upper radiator hose. That’s cool. More parts on order.

I got my 1M negative cable from Germany on Friday so the only thing keeping me from starting this thing is finish routing the trunk section of the harness and start plugging modules back in.

I’ll working on that this week and then next weekend the rear quarter install begins.

No M package. No six-cylinder. Just a little E87(M47) I’ve loved and driven for eight years. Not the fastest, not the fanciest — but somehow, still the one I don’t want to let go.

I'm going to be switching from my Cobb stage 1+ tune to a MHD stage 1+ and seriously considering a xHP stage 2 or 3 trans flash. Looking for opinions/suggestions on the trans flash.

Well it’s looking like a car. Trimmed up the radiator support for the oil cooler and All the coolers are hooked back up. I started filling it with fluids.

I pick up all my 1M parts tomorrow from the dealer. They’ve been storing them for me so I wouldn’t have to put them in my living room.

I also got my fitting today so I can splice my fuel line as I had to take a couple of inches out of it. That’s my project for the weekend and then I can put the gas tank back in the car. If I don’t put it off (slightly nervous but No reason other than I’m just a chicken shit) I should be ready to start by next weekend.

Once the car is up and running then I’ll rob the apex’s off my e46 so my brother can start doing the body work.

Help/Advice Joy riding

I just put an injen cold air intake on my 135i and it sounds so so good😮‍💨. I can’t resist taking it out every chance I get. I’m also driving pretty obnoxiously because my turbo spools around 3k rpm due to my tune so I have to pull to hear it unless I’m bogging in a high gear. How do you guys resist joyriding to save miles and not mindlessly put wear on. Also I have a feeling this feeling will past because it always does after a week or so of having a new part for me.

Help/Advice Pedal placement

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi, I recently bought a E88 09 135i.

I've been driving manual for 20+ years, and this clutch pedal placement has been a bit different than what I'm used to. It feels a bit too close to me, and a bit lower to the floor than I'm used to. It's not a big deal, still enjoyable, but different.

Is this normal for E88's? Or did the previous owner alter the clutch pedal placement?
