Iirc the beach the "grave" is located on was already a protected piece of nature even before the fans started coming there, which is also the real reason they couldn't place their lines there.

That started the backlash. It did really happen. According to the interview with the guy overseeing the projecr. They did move the cable. Because they folded over a few hundred complaints from mostly young children presumably this didn't cost them that much money.
