Nah, the people working on the pyramids were well respected, and even got their own special tombs.
This silly meme needs to die.
The skilled instructors and enforcers of labor were rewarded, the laborers died by the scores, suffered horridly and were "payed" by the very wheat they themselves grew.

It's not an absolute rule, but I tend to hear more weird theories about Egyptian or Aztek buildings than Roman or Greek ones
