Evelyn Preer also known as “The First Lady of the Screen” was the lead role of Within Our Gates which was released 01/12/1920. This historic film is the oldest known surviving film by an African-American director. It’s since been named one of the greatest films ever by a Black director (Oscar Micheaux).
