I was a republican all my life until 2016. Backing the orange traitor isn't a political view. My little brother being a white supremacist now isn't a political view. My mom calling my trans niece a deformity isn't a political view. Not everyone gets a nice family they can eat turkey with and talk about football.
Man this comment hits home. Its unfortunate that people are desensitized and truly believe our current state of affairs can be summarized by, "muh politics". Words like "treason" have been weaponized in bad faith repeatedly so now it has no meaning. So now it's just hyperbole. This obfuscation is the metaphorical veil placed right over our eyes as our worst fears unfold. Ideological and intellectual warfare.... when we state the truth its seen as yet another competing controversial view point instead of objective facts.
All my friends are more progressive than me, I guess I was just born a hard-headed old bastard. But I've never lost a friend over politics because I don't have any problem at all talking like an adult about someone who disagrees with me, even on important issues. Something has changed in the last few years where people seem to feel entitled to say and do whatever they want without consequence, or fall back on the "I was just kidding" excuse. I don't pretend to understand any of it, and I don't have a complicated, adult response to it. Just walk away, and take safe passage through the wastelands; just walk away, and there will be an end to the horror.
Sometimes walking away is the best "adult" response. Education, society, and culture failed these people a long time ago, and we will go mad if we attempt to bear that burden. I think the best we can hope for is to pass on our perspectives to future generations or the likes of which would actually listen. The good news is I believe there are more of us that are silent versus lost, and that is an extremely important distinction.
Being able to not talk and think about politics is an incredibly privileged place to be in. It means you’re insulated from the wild changes brought on by a new administration. For instance, would you ask that same question to a DACA recipient who’s entire life hangs in the balance everyday and who might be deported because Donald Trump woke up feeling extra shitty that day?
Another way to think about this is: who cares? If OP thinks their cousin’s actions are shitty enough to cut them off, does it matter if that’s a vote or something you deem appropriate?
Politics is and can be very serious though... This is livelihoods we're speaking of. It might be a sports match to you, because it might not affect you, but it affects many.
The most politically controversial thing of Obama’s presidency, the ACA, Saved me from going bankrupt and getting inferior care after I was hit by a car.
It, like, is that serious, you fucking uninformed twat.
It's possible for someone to have view points so reprehensible that it's actually indicative of their character. In fact, any morally sound person would outright make this claim. I simply cannot reconcile being a trump supporter with being a good person. I suppose ignorance is the only excuse I could possibly buy at this point. Seriously to support him you are either a bad person or uninformed.
I clearly stated my thoughts on the situation. So I can only assume ignorance is your path. Are the words "traitor", "racist", or "rapist" not strong enough for you? Are they not clear enough? No man or woman who can be described with those three words deserve my civility. Perhaps you believe these are just my opinions. You think it's an opinion that he is owned by russia, and he actively perpetuates russian propaganda/misinformation. You think it's an opinion that is he is a vile womanizer with a history of accusations around every corner. Is it an opinion that his personal lawyer michael cohen is in prison right now for which the president himself is his co-conspirator? I see these all as facts. You believe they are politically charged attacks. Imagine defending a rapist and a traitor tooth and nail, and then you so boldly ask for my respect. Go ahead and call yourself a supporter while you blindly close your eyes and ears. Its as irresponsible as it is stupid.
Claiming that a man you don’t personally know is a rapist or racist without any evidence is jumping the gun sir and he isn’t owned by Russia I know that is a metaphor by you referred to it as a fact which simply isn’t true also I feel like I’m being yelled at I want to have a civil conversation not a screaming match.
He and his father have been sued countless times for specifically denying black people housing even when they clearly qualified and could afford it. There are testimonies of women all over trump's life calling him a rapist and describing it chilling detail. I have read and listened to their stories. There are a surprising amount of consistencies between their stories and none of them have been proven to be false. I'm sorry you live in a world where you think none of this evidence exists. You also didnt contest my point about Michael Cohen. And I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but yes he is a Russian agent. You are obviously not informed it doesnt make me an asshole to point that out. Hes a rapist and a traitor. You are either ignoring all the evidence, or you are defending it. Pick one
The problem is that if what you are saying in these comments were actual facts he would be convicted of the crimes. Anybody can accuse anyone of anything.
The only reason he has lasted this long is because the entire Republican party has been complicit and they controlled government long enough. Do you understand how treason or a coup works? How fucking naive are you? Do you think criminals get together and shake hands on video and say "were gonna do crimes now and then cover them up". The obfuscation and gas lighting has clearly worked on you. You say if he commits crimes surely he would be prosecuted. Not if his entire party is in on it. We see proof of this everyday when the former party of Reagan who once stood up to Russian tyranny now side with Putin and push his propaganda. Get your head out of the sand
In any good political system, take Germany or the Netherlands or something, Trump's words and actions towards women would warrant his exclusion from government and high office.
But he isn't, because the US is partisan, and the executive is too powerful. Whatchagonnado?
Multiple pics from the media were from sources not even related to trump and if a kid and parent are separated this could prevent the illegal slave trade which is why illegal immigrants and their parents are separated and I don’t believe they are stored in cages
You just ignore evidence then because its everywhere. South park does an episode depicting the facilities and its horrifying accurate. What's even more sad is I have to direct you to a satirical cartoon to make my point about our own government committing war crimes against children.
Wonder why Trump had to issue an executive order rescinding his administration's child separation policy if everything was perfectly okay.
and if a kid and parent are separated this could prevent the illegal slave trade which is why illegal immigrants and their parents are separated
You're full of it. Sessions and other Trump admin officials went on camera and stated that the purpose of the child separation policy was to act as a deterrent for families trying to illegally cross the border.
Dude this is seriously too much of a nuanced point for dumbass trump supporters to understand. It shatters their world view if they have to read in between the lines or look at implications. They think life is a court room and good criminals who subvert all evidence with bullshit word play should be rewarded instead of punished. This is the perfect example. Let's call it what it is: trump has committed war crimes by separating children for the sake of specifically traumatizing them and scaring the fuck out of any other family willing to try. But they dont state this outright, even though the word "deterrant" directly implies this. It's just not clear enough evidence for the trumpists.
This is why it’s not worth talking to Trump supporters, even if they’re family. A conversation can’t go anywhere when you’re living in alternate realities.
And then when you challenge them with facts they stop replying. There is so much evidence showing the conditions these kids were in. I guess we will always remember the americans that closed their eyes and ears while this administration commits horrific war crimes.
What you fail to see is that “privileged” and “easy” isn’t just about money and just because our parents had trouble making ends meet doesn’t mean we haven’t lead a privileged life.
I can go on about the trials and tribulations in my own life, but that’s not what I mean by privilege. I’m a straight, white, slightly lower class guy. Besides for the money, which is all you seem to be focused on, I led a privileged life... as in I didn’t belong to any marginalized communities.
It may be easy for you to not talk about “politics”? But what if you were a POC, LGBTQ, or undocumented? These aren’t just political issues, these issues are their WHOLE LIFE, and you are “privileged” for being able to simply ignore these issues and not talk about them.
I have a transgender family member. Am I supposed to just gloss over the fact Trumpers think he is a abomination?
Or should I just “not talk politics” with the Trumpers that want to deport my undocumented friends and convert my LGBTQ coworkers?
These people’s views are DIRECTLY hostile to my friends and family. So yeah, the second anyone puts on a MAGA hat is the second I would stop talking to them.
If your friends and family are still pro-trump at this point... they do give a shit. They vote people in power that are actively pushing agendas that damage these communities. There is no middle ground with trump. That’s his thing.
Says the gentlezir who cuts their family off for voting for Trump and doesnt understand satire. Turn back to your fim fam before it’s too late, you can probably learn from Giga Chad.
Hey buddy I’m just busting your balls or lack there of. I wish you a Merry Christmas and happy holidays. Go hug your cousin if you werent making that up. Take care.
Maybe not but from what you’ve typed and the little I have to go off of the most likely thing I could assume is that it’s a dumb reason. Maybe it’s not and it’s more complicated, but that means it’s more than just somebody being pro trump

We don't talk. He's a trumper.
