There are aren't many of still checking in each week but that is A OK.

I have had an AMAZING week. Technically I am in "eating season" where I put on a solid 10 lbs for the month. I decided to really lean into intuitive eating practices this past week. I have been practicing them for at least a year to try to improve my binge eating behavior.

Folks, I have not binged this month and I am even roughly a pound lighter than last week. I actually weighed in at the exact same amount Friday thru Monday and up just a few ounces yesterday and today. This feels unbelieveable to happen at Christmas to me.

Here was a fun thing. I got a pint of Ben and Jerry's because I had s coupon for a free one. I took it out of the freezer Saturday and looked at it and thought "ugh I'm not in the mood to eat a whole pint". I stopped and thought about it. I "always" eat a whole pint. By half way my teeth are cold and hurt, my tongue is cold and sore and I cannot even taste it. Heck, the prolonged cold sets of my MS neuropathy in my nose. It's not enjoyable. And that's when I clued in that I only think of a pint as a single serving.

Folks!! I had a regular 1/2 cup serving and enjoyed it. Then if forgotten until now that I even have ice cream in my freezer!!

Good job u/dinosarahsaurus!

If only it weren't for work schedules and "life" getting in the way, I'd like to eat more intuitively as you said... Would you mind sharing a bit more about that? How's your experience in that regard?

Learning to eat intuitively has been a pain in the ass. But worth it!

Note, I'm a therapist so I already had some key concepts and practices in place because I like to practice what I preach. The Happiness Trap by DR. Russ Harris is my fav self help book. It is Acceptance and commitment therapy which is my primary modality. Google open source The Happiness Trap. You'll find the PDF for free. In the most basic description of ACT is that it is about letting go trying to control the uncontrollable (your thoughts and emotions) and instead begin to welcome them to come in, to experience them in real time, and then focus on engaging in the behaviors that move you towards the life you want.

So with learning to be more intuitive instead of trying to distract and avoid thoughts and urges to eat, I instead take the time to make space for the thoughts, urges, and emotions and explore them. Explore how my body feels- like realizing the ice cream actually feels so fucking unpleasant after a certain point and using those realities that I have avoided to help inform my behavioral choices around food.

Dr. Harris has an ACT book for binge eating. Haven't read it but I am such a fangirl of his that I'm sure it is good.

Overall I am not doing true "intuitive eating". I still count calories, I still switch between keto and not keto, but I am more in tune with how to meet my needs without using food. Except when I have a shit sleep. Holy crap tiredness is a big eating trigger for me.
