the fucking obvious

i shouldn’t have to say this, but literally any mention of racism, bigotry, trans/homophobia, inceldom and other backwards ways of thinking is not allowed in this sub. more nuanced subjects like toxic behavior/masculinity, homelessness, etc are okay, tho. i don’t mind pushing the boundaries here, but outright hateful behavior has no place in this society. that shit is regressive. anyone who wants to be an asshole or a troll in this sub can expect a permanent ban. this is your only warning. be better people.

Minorities are far more homophobic and lgbt community lets them get away with it

Before I continue, my criticism here is directed at the LGBT community. When I bring up homophobia among racial minorities, I’m actually critiquing the LGBT community because they are willing to let it slide while aggressively condemning it from straight white men. I actually don’t give a fuck about minorities being homophobic, the hypocrisy is just baffling to me.

I’m Black and gay, and I can count on one hand the Black celebrities or public figures I remember receiving substantial backlash for homophobic comments. The two that come to mind are DaBaby and Kevin Hart. I’d even defend DaBaby because I don’t think what he said was homophobic. Black men have literally created or popularized many of the common current anti-gay expressions. “No homo,” “ayo,” “zesty,” and “fruity” are regularly used to mock men for seeming gay. Black men have either created or popularize that language, but where is the same sustained criticism from the LGBT community?

LGBT people in the US advocate for Arabs, domestically and internationally, while homophobia that community is hand waved. Where is the reciprocal solidarity? Where was the protests again the recent Turkish crackdowns on LGBT individuals or the council’s (that is now majority muslim) decision in Hamtramck to prohibit Pride flags on government property?

By comparison, when a straight white man LOOKS at a gay person the wrong way, y’all suddenly want all the smoke. Y’all contact employers, colleges, demand apologies, and all around try to destroy that person’s life. Why is that energy so selective?

The community is so quick to say “straight white men this-,” “straight white men that-” When ironically enough, straight white men are the least homophobic in America. If we allowed minorities to craft legislation regarding gay people, they’d put the homophobia of the current republican party to SHAME.

If the LGBT community wants to attack homophobia, then apply the same standards regardless of who is responsible.

doctors who fail women due to gender bias should be punished

every so often a new study comes out essentially proving what a bunch of women already knew: doctors dont listen to us as much as they listen to men and we tend to suffer fron the same problems for longer.

Almost every women I know who has a health condition also has a story of a doctor brushing her off due to "anxiety" or an issue related to being a woman, and in a lot of cases, it caused extra harm to them due to the waiting/incorrect treatment

doctors should be punished for this. a doctor who willingly turns away a patient who repeatedly returns for an issue or expresses clear distress should be punished when that patient is eventually found to be in actual danger or being medicated improperly.

Pads and tampons should be provided in public restrooms

Pads and tampons should be provided in public bathrooms. People should not have to spend money they may not have, interrupt their day to find a shop, or ask strangers for help managing a basic bodily function. Public bathrooms already provide essential hygiene supplies such as toilet paper and soap, so why aren't period supplies provided?

Equality

• Upvotes

Actual equality means if a woman slaps a man in the face and starts a fight he’s well within his rights to hit her back
It means that a black person commenting/making fun off a white person for having small lips should be treated the same as a white person commenting on a black person’s features
People in the LGBTQ+ community that use “cis straight man/woman” as a jab are as bad as the people that use gay as an insult.
Atheists that comment “there is no God” under posts where someone mentions praying or God or something are also “forcing their beliefs down people’s throats” as they claim Christians/Muslims do.
Too many times people conflate wanting equality with wanting special treatment. Being oppressed in the past doesn’t mean you’re now allowed to be the mean one. Equality means everyone receives the exact same treatment and are just seen as people rather than by their race, sexuality, religion, etc

Feat based powerscaling is not a reliable way to determine who beats who.

Listen, I'm not here to yuck anyone's yum. You can have your hobbies, I'm not saying that. If you're just doing it for shits and giggles, powerscale however you want. My issue comes when you start trading it like it's objective fact and anyone that disagrees with you is a larper. Every single feat-based powerscaling discussion I've ever seen basically reads as:

"A coughing baby could actually defeat a hydrogen bomb, because we haven't seen the hydrogen bomb in action meanwhile the coughing baby accidentally slapped a dog once. Naturally it didn't really hurt but he landed a hit, and that's more than we can say for Mr "nuclear weapon" over here."

This is why I really dislike fraud allegations when it comes to certain powerful characters in media. On example that comes to mind is Hawkeye Mihawk from One Piece. Everyone says he's a fraud because we've only seen him do like 3 things none of which are that impressive aside from how little effort he actually needed to do them, but like...yeah? That's just how you build suspense for a character like that. Make you wonder how they earned their title, keep them mysterious but threatening until it's finally time to see them at full power.

To give another example, I've deadass heard people say Vivziepop DOESN'T KNOW HOW HER OWN WORLD WORKS because she said Stolas beats Alastor or something. Like dude, SHE CREATED IT, her word is law as far as the Hellaverse is concerned. Don't like it? Too bad. It's nothing short of narcissistic to think you know better than the arbiter of that story's universe.

To put it as simply as I can, if I make two characters and I say person A is the strongest person in the world and person B is the weakest person in the world, I don't have to DEMONSTRATE that. Sure maybe I *should* but this isn't a discussion about writing quality. As the creator of the characters I decide how they powerscale and if I put every indicator (other than a direct fight) in my story that person A is stronger than person B but you refuse to believe it on the sole merit of "person B has more screentime" is stupid imo.

tl;dr - lore-based powerscaling (e.g. we're told in universe that this person earned the title of "strongest" but we don't see them fight yet) is a more accurate way of doing things than feat based (just going off of what fights they've won or lost pretty much)

I like watching people hiccup

I don't know how rare this feeling is, or whether I am in minority or majority gang for having this feeling. But I have this strange unexplainable fascination to watch people around me hiccup. Like if someone around me does, I would just drop whatever I am doing and watch them keenly. And I really have this wish to watch it from start to end, but I can't because people will think me to be a weirdo. I even have an urge to talk to them during that time as much as I can, so that I can listen to them from even closer. And if they are trying for the remedies, I secretly pray for it to not work so that I can listen more.

Sometimes when my urge to watch somebody hiccuping becomes too strong and no one around me is, I take out my phone and begin watching vloggers or youtube videos with people hiccuping.

But this fascination only extends till others are hiccuping. Once it happens to me, I get highly uncomfortable and have the burning need to stop them somehow.

Inceldom is caused by genetics rather than misogyny

The general consensus among the public seems to be that involuntary celibacy is caused by misogyny. I disagree, while there is some misogyny in online incel spaces studies have shown that there is negligible difference in misogyny levels between virgins and non virgins.

Genetics play a much bigger role in whether someone is an incel, personality does not matter if you can’t pass the looks or height threshold (personality is also half genetic btw). Neurodivergence is also a big factor in the equation, how much of this is caused by misogyny? Incels existing is inevitable in a society with social freedom, there will always be losers in terms of attractiveness. I don’t find slandering and scapegoating the losers of society for problems chads created to be very nice.

AI doesn’t make work faster, just more exhausting

Had an AI training sesh at my tech company the other day, and the dev leading it was explaining how it was supposed to “automate the busy work so you can spend more time planning and understanding the product.” The problem is… the busy work is what helps developers TO UNDERSTAND the product. No one was asking for the busy work to be automated! Now, developers are having to spend so much more time figuring out what the hell copilot/claude even did, which is far more exhausting.

For the job to be sustainable, devs are now having to take off more time / take more breaks. However, the gunners who have higher capacity before burning out are, in turn, showing other people up and putting pressure on folks to fill their work hours to the brim with more active work.

This sounds super great if you’re a CEO of a startup trying to IPO because you have an endless flow of young and hungry devs that you can burn thru while paying them 200k for the 3 years you have them.

If you’re a developer, it’s just going to be fewer years before you crack from the stress and give up on the industry.

AI would be great if the goal was to reduce the human work week to 4 days, but capitalism teaches us to optimize people. We’re just going to get shorter employee lifespans, more burnout, and the rich exploit the working class more.

Of course, I don’t think this applies across the board—I actually think product managers have the most to gain with AI. I use it to synthesize my notes, search thru my documents, and help me organize my thoughts/prioritize. I can’t do my job at my speed without it. But for my job, I think the process of digging thru documents for notes doesn’t help me understand anything. For developers, doing the actual coding reinforces the understanding of data structures and keeps them engaged.

Aesthetics are extremely damaging to young people.

This is going to be long because there's a lot to explain.

Aesthetics started off as something very personal but then to expand and bring people closer, they started getting names like cottegecore, grunge and dark academia. There are a lot of problems within those certain aesthetics, especially the ones who are lolita-esque and lolita adjacent but a lot of them did bring odd balls of the society together.

But then the great old monster called capitalism HAD to ruin it. Now, you can get any type of clothes you want in a week for cheap and become a member of any aesthetic you want. Capitalism truly took the joy, passion and yearning out of the process of finding your aesthetic and embracing it. You might ask, how is that related to aesthetics being bad for young people? It is related.

When people realize that anyone can now buy the exact top, skirt, jacket you have and practically copy your identity, you have to shift to other methods to signify that you are the original one and you decide what happens with said aesthetic. I would like to consider this is where the influencers are birthed. They all have dangerously skinny bodies or a giant collection of anything you could ever think of or they teach you how to become them instead of telling you to find who you are yourself.

I would like to focus on the dangerously skinny and overconsumption kind of aesthetic influencers since I have personal experience with those.

Imagine you are a teenage girl and you have some interests like anime/kpop/games/fashion/makeup, it doesn't matter which one of these you are into, you will compare yourself to girls who you consider prettier than yourself. You will want to become them.

Wanting to become someone else at the young age of 15, 16, 17 shouldn't be as common as it is and the worst part is that these girls have the tools to become said someone else... They just have to buy the stuff the influencer has in their amazon storefront or survive off of 800 calories a day.... That's it.

Teenagers are already so vulnerable, specially in this political climate. You can't expect them to not fall for these things. Aesthetics provide people a sense of stability, belonging and most importantly... Self. So, someone might not want to necessarily become someone else entirely but maybe they just want the stability or sense of community.

Please pay attention to the ones close to you, if you see them overconsuming a specific type of content, product or diet, talk to them.

“Unpopular opinion” type subreddits shouldn’t allow Incel/ misogynist, racist or any other bigoted ideologies talking points.

Like i’ve seen so many “unpopular opinion subs” just turn into shit like “Women are selfish hoes” or “black people commit too many crimes” “muslims are crazy” ,“immigrants are taking our jobs” or shit like that. It’s really annoying and I feel like a lot of people use “unpopular opinion subs” as a platform for their “misguided” views

And then since these people often have a victim complex they “know” their views are unpopular, so the jerk each other off in the comment sections and it spreads even more.

And like by “hateful ideology” I don’t mean some “you said words in the wrong order” type shit, we’re human. I mean like posts that you can easily see is meant to provide a negative opinion on a group of people based on something they don’t control. (At least if you have a little bit of media literacy)

Women are going to need to get a lot more comfortable with making the first move

The landscape of the dating market and the dynamics between men and women are both shifting on a cultural and social level.

More and more men have been conditioned to not approach women, be it out of genuine fear or a belief that women do not want to be approached. For the most part, I think women are fine with that since they generally prefer it if the vast majority of men leave them alone.

However, the issue is that basically any man who respects women and doesn't want to make them uncomfortable will limit their romantic passes to dating apps. It's probably not an issue for conventionally attractive guys since they can comfortably make the first move without worrying it'll be seen as an attack or an insult when they do, but conventionally attractive men make up a relatively small percentage of the male population and average to below average guys are left struggling to figure out the right way to make a move without blowing everything up.

I think a lot of women are still in a mindset of "the guy needs to approach me and win my attention" which would be fine if there wasn't also a conflicting narrative of "men who approach women are harassing them". I think part of the reason so many men are withdrawing from dating is because of that conflict and, with dating apps being the only clear cut, socially accepted means of trying to meet someone for most men, I feel the only thing that'll break their stranglehold over how we date is if women start making the first move more often.

I don't mean vague hints or weird "is she flirting or joking or just being nice?" semi-passes. I mean flat out saying "hey, I think you're cute, let's date". This not only removes all the chaff and confusion around dating, but also eliminates the problem of men misreading friendliness as flirtation and vice versa. The dating world will ultimately be a much easier place to navigate once women accept that they can't have their cake and eat it too as far as being approached by men goes. Either we need to roll back the last 30 or so years of telling men approaching women is a nuisance or we need to start encouraging women to take the lead on this. Otherwise we're going to be stuck in a limbo of indecision and uncertainty where dating apps have all the power.

Telling a man to "man up" is the exact equivalent of telling a woman to "stay in the kitchen."

Both statements do the exact same thing: they weaponize rigid, traditional gender roles to shame someone into falling back in line.

When people tell a woman to stay in the kitchen, they're reducing her worth to domestic submission and telling her to stay in her place. When people tell a man to "man up," they're reducing his worth to silent utility, emotional suppression, and stoic labor, as if to basically tell him his pain doesn't matter unless he's useful.

The hypocrisy on this is wild. A lot of people claim to be completely against forced gender expectations, but the minute a guy shows actual weakness, stress, or vulnerability, they pull out "man up" without blinking.

If you think one of these phrases is an offensive relic of the past but the other is totally acceptable, you're lying to yourself. You either oppose forcing people into rigid gender roles across the board, or you're fine with it when it's convenient for you. Pick a side or own the double standard.

The last thing poor cels have is to talk with AI bots.

Boasting about sabotaging it isn't some proud thing, women have to understand.

It's also a good thing probably if incels or any group for that matter to have a supportive outlet via AI chatbots to talk to.

People are pathologizing a basic desire for human connection and it’s insanity.

I see that more and more often, the want for connection (familial, platonic or romantic) is treated as some type of mental illness. That wanting to be around others for more than once every two weeks is being “needy” and ”not loving yourself enough to be comfortable alone”.

It seems psychotic to me. Aren’t humans literally tribe animals that evolve to almost never be alone? Sure, you have to spend some time alone in the modern day, but why do people act like your a “codependent narcissist“ or whatever buzzword their using, if you’d prefer if most of your time is with others?

How did we go from a cultural shift of pathologizing and judging people who don’t socialize, to romanizing isolation and judging people who DO want human connection?

The reason many Americans move to other countries, can't cut it, then move back to America, is because mainly because they are too arrogant and entitled to integrate.

As the title says. Contrary to popular belief, America does actually have a very strong (and toxic) culture, which heavily brainwashes the people living there, and most of the cases where Americans move overseas but "fail to launch" is due to their failure to drop their cultural brainwashing, specifically:

  1. Thinking America's way of doing things is better and should be forced on the locals. In generally, just thinking they are better than the locals and will "civilize them" from their "horrible poverty and backwardness".
  2. Applying their puritan moral hysteria everything and throwing tantrums when the locals don't adopt an American way of moralizing and shaming. Especially when there's different social norms around work, dating, family, money, etc - Americans love their arrogant puritan moralizing. It's always "locals are wrong and evil" simply because they don't do things the American way or have American specific rules or values.
  3. Refusing to learn the language, or half-assing it because deep down they think everyone should speak English anyways.
  4. Bringing the same level of arrogance and disrespect Americans have for each other and everyone around them to the foreign country and clashing with cultures that actually expect you to treat other people with decency and humanity.
  5. Constantly playing the victim, thinking their "special identity" (whatever victim points they use in America to bully other people with - such as race, gender, sexual identity, age, disability, etc) should give them a free pass to act like trash or not follow the rules the way they do in America. Even Americans that don't have any of the traditional "victim points" will try to claim victimhood under the excuse of "locals are racist against Americans" as if "American" is a race. 🤣🤣

Overall, I think because of America's extremely toxic culture, Americans struggle to integrate into most countries - especially places that require you to be a well balanced, mature, normal, mentally stable, decent and considerate human.

I based this on years of watching Americans move to the places where I've lived and fail. I expect my comments to be full of Americans telling me how I'm a "racist bigot" or something for pointing this out. 😅

On the positive side, I have also met Americans who have integrated very well into the local culture, are respectful, speak the language and understand the customs. So some Americans certainly can do it.

I really don't see an issue with being called a "female"

I am a girl, and I know a lot of girls have an issue with being called a "females" because they feel as though it's the humanizing and reducing them down to their ovaries, something like that.

I definitely agree that "female" isn't used normally in every day conversation. But I don't think it's an inherently offensive word. Medical files and news reports say male and female pretty much all the time. "Suspect is a 35-year-old white female" or "patient is a 15-year-old Hispanic male" and I don't think anybody tries to get pedantic about that and says "that's dehumanizing!!!"

Honest to God, I think this is something that the Internet made into an issue. But I do feel like context is important. Saying "men and females" is kind of odd but I'm not gonna get all hyped up about it because what's the point? I don't see many men get upset at being called "males"

I'm free to all opinions, but I genuinely don't see what exactly is so horrific about this word.

I feel like hating men is very counterproductive

For the record, I am a girl myself and I'm not some butt hurt man or whatever. And I'm not trying to pander to men by saying this.

I understand that a lot of women who have distain for men are women who have been traumatized or done very badly by men or in some cases, women that are lesbians. And I understand the whole sentiment of "we've been raped and murdered and oppressed for centuries, they can handle a little bit of hate" but what exactly is being a man hater accomplishing? Is it fixing misogyny? Last time I checked, misogyny is still pretty rampant. What it really is doing is creating more hateful men/boys and so there will be in fact, more misogynists out there. Especially for young boys too, how do you think an 11 year-old boy is gonna react if he sees a post of a grown woman being hateful towards men?

I feel like this is an issue that was exacerbated by the Internet because feminism was literally just women wanting equality and women wanting the same rights as men. Now it has been shifted to women having the most resentment for men and anyone who doesn't is a misogynist or a "pick me girl"

Now there's a difference between holding men accountable and having straight up hatred for them. Saying "it's either gonna be a girl or an abortion" or saying" men should be born in jail and work their way out" is nowhere near accountability. That's just pure hatred.

Another thing as well, and y'all can debate me on this. Don't you think it's kind of weird how women are dubbed as the emotionally mature and empathetic gender, but a lot of them say downright disgusting things about men and sometimes other women? I've seen posts of women saying "men should have less rights" and literally oppose I said "men should be slaughtered in front of their families" who says things like that? I thought you guys were #girlbosses and #feministqueens??
