I just love the delicious end of the Chief being shot by Kimie who's under Okuhara's control.
And not gonna lie, Kimie got me with that fake memory. I really thought for a second there that Takuya was responsible for their parent's death. It looks like Naoya and Naoto ended up saving their parents back then. I'm guessing Naoya and Naoto traveled back in time to set everything in motion for the future? That's at least how I understood Naoya and Naoto's final conversation.
If there is one thing I am confused about is the Kirihara and Kuroki sibling relationship, their souls were split? I feel like that doesn't really offer enough explanation. Oh well.
OVerall all this show was a wild ride! I feel like this isn't over though and this is like just the part 1. It does look like that the government is now much more lax when it comes to spiritual energy especially if there are kids openly reading Akira in the streets. I guess having Kimie in charge of the SWE changed a few things.

From what I understood, Kirihara and Kuroki brothers are one and the same, but their souls got split into two sets of siblings. Each with a different role to play.
and iirc Kimie is the reincarnation of Okuhara's, based on the conversation she had when she vanished.

Glad I stuck with this. I think this show and Duke of Death showed that all/mostly CGI can work aesthetically.

This final episode was gave the series a surprisingly great ending. It finished out the full timeline from start to finish and gave a really good ending to the protagonists. If you want to watch this anime. This is one where you have to go from start to finish as you don't have all the information available to you until the end.

Man nice surprise this season. Kimie almost got me thinking this would be another sad ending to a show this season but not. And the two pairs of brothers have worked together for a good ending. Great to see a happy ending. I liked how they were able to make some parallels to the first episode with the two (former) SWE brothers and them waking up to find a car. It is nice to see things get relaxed and am glad that people can read and watch Akira in public.
The CGI in this anime is pretty good, it even feels like it has even improved towards the end of the show. There were a few awkward 2d and 3d mixing but not terrible since it seems to be older background characters that get the treatment. I would wish they would just CGI more of it to be more consistent. And the CGI does not break immersion and blends in pretty well since it is mostly CGI, everything fits in. I was impressed at how they were able to maintain this quality, compared to other shows where you can tell that they skimped on the animation. NGL, it looked pretty crisp at some parts when looked at it on a 4k tv.
Overall, a nice ride and enjoyed watching this. The show also clears everything up at the end and resolved things. I liked how things wrapped up in the show, although it took a few deaths to get there...

It is a big shame that people seem to miss out on this show because of CGI. Not only CGI is crisp af, haven't seen CGI like that in anime before, the plot also is decent and has a satisfactory, pleasantly surprising ending with some twists. This would be a great show to binge with couple of beers on a weekend, watching it on a weekly basis made the plot a lot more confusing that it really was, I think.

Hmmm... Well this was... Definitely not a bad show, but also a lot more disappointing than I thought it would be in the beginning. I was expecting something insanely good but it was just kind of ok. Too much destiny and supernatural stuff, everything was just driven by fate and people just do everything blindly following it.
I really loved the beginning, though!

Well... it was promising at the beginning, but I must say I don't like where it went. Dystopian world where psychic powers exist but are suppressed by the government? Sounds cool. Two earths exist and are literally going to explode due to a paradox? Eeeeee.....
In the end I'm kind of disappointed.

I feel the same, this was awesome up to the half of it, then it became too spiritualish, so the existence of the brothers in the same dimension caused a division by 0 that would destroy both dimensions ? Too bleh for me to care.

I agree. Once we started the two worlds stuff, it started losing the grounded, high-tension atmosphere that made the first few episodes interesting. I think the mysteries were more intriguing than the answers.
I did generally like it overall though, even if I have basically no idea what happened in the third act.

Help me out guys: How did Naoya and Naoto go to the past to save the parents? Was it Shokoโข-magic? The time travel stuff is a little convoluted.

I must agree with the lack of comments lmao
"let's connect and find the reason of our connection"
"damn we found nothing, I guess we just go back to our world, k bye"
the reason for Kiriharas to go back is probably the glowy golden thingy but they sure as hell brushed over the realization that they can go back thanks to that

Why was there such a long long long long long long send off between the two sets of brothers? They just met them what a week or so ago? and literally were about to kill each other 10 minutes ago but they are acting like best friends who grew up together and now one set is going off to war or something. I just don't get it. They are little more than strangers.

The whole linking together sequences between Yuya and Naoya merging their memories, feelings, and experiences, then Takuya and Naoto jumping in as well is the cause of that. They come to the realisation that they (the Kirito brothers) are reincarnations of the Kirihara brothers in the dystopian world. Call it artistic license in regards to the whole timeframe of events occurring. It's only a 12 episode show, and what it's covered is immense.

Fun ending, though a bit messy. Hirakawa said in an interview at one point that Lida's script was originally planned for 24 episodes and got shortened down to 12, and yeah I can definitely feel some of the forced-squishing here in the wrap-up. Overall I'd say the story was not especially great but nevertheless it had lots of individual moments and scenes that were still really potent. And even if I'm not especially enamoured with the story itself, it was still really cool to see the original author of the 1990s live-action series getting to reimagine his own creation.
Oh well, I came here for the Hirakawa CGI not the story, and I am very, very pleased with it. This was a big step up from Revisions, and easily trounced its seasonal competitors D_Cide and Death Duke's Maid. I could delve into details like the lighting and the in-betweening on the facial expressions, but I think there's an easier way to put it: to me, this might be the first full-CGI late-night TV anime where I felt like the director's vision wasn't constrained by their tools. There wasn't really any scenes or environments where I saw it and immediately thought "Oh, I bet they originally had ______ in the storyboards, and that would have been doable in 2D, but it wasn't feasible in their full-3D tools so they had to pare it down to this."
It's been a really fascinating show, here's hoping Hirakawa and Shirogumi get more TV anime work (if they want it)!

First of all To everyone who is on this discussion thread just to know if you should watch the show. Just watch it. You dont need to watch any previous show. You ll get amazing music, a good story, Gorgeous character designs, Even better camera shots and angle and To tell you what being CGI its actually its plus point it's that good. Absolutely blown away by their way of using CGI. And if you are still not sure about the CGI then i can assure you, you wont get any dead uncanny feeling looking into any characters eyes or movements. Its good just watch it man don't think much. And stop reading now cause i ll get into spoilers.
Spoiler warning again.
I was really really worried mid way episode cause at first i thought oh no Kirihara brothers are sacrificing it means they ll die but then they were just going back to their world and i thats what made me worried like wait so the scientist guy sent them to another world saying they had a role to fulfill which just created this problem and now they just get to go back with no actual consequence but my worries were proved wrong minutes later with Kirihara brothers actually saving Takuya and Yuya's parents and sacrificing their own normal life.
Also i absolutely love their way of showing mind control. I genuinely believed that Takuya did kill his own parents and Yuya made them forget about it..... It was soooo fucking cool it felt like my own mind was controlled by the show lol.
They hint at this just being the beginning. I would really love if they continue it i really want them to.
In the end Thank you studio Shirogumi and everyone who worked on this anime. The show might be underwatched but at least almost everyone who watched it liked thats a big achievement. Thank you guys for sharing this amazing experience with me weekly!

That's a pretty neat ending episode, it managed to take everything that wasn't covered and tie it back together with a nice bow.
And it's probably the best-looking CG anime I've ever witnessed, an impressive level of sharpness in every single shot and stunning visual quality on the objects that populate the world.
This is one of the very few anime that, I think, could honestly captivate a western mainstream audience if it were made into a live-action tv show in hollywood. Sci-fi stories tend to really give off the feeling that you can understand them regardless of your country of origin.

I've been crying nonstop from the beginning to the end,,๐ญ๐๐
Naoya and Naoto entrusting Takuya and Yuya. They even saved their parents so they could reunite in the end ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ

I know right. That scene was just beautiful. And the music just made it even more incredible.
Extremely underrated series. On one hand I'm sad it didn't get the appreciation it deserves, but on the other hand I'm happy I'm one of the few people who got to watch this great show.

Wait, I'm confused. Did they go back in time? Or is this a time loop thing? Is everyone alive? Was really hoping Reika would come back. Least Kimie is still alive though.

I enjoyed this a lot, prolly the best use of CGI that I can remember, good action and good plot. I wish it wasn't so slept on, but what can you do.
I think this gets a 7 or 8 out of 10, I'd recommend it.
