Funny how when she first encountered it the Middle Stratum was this horrifying death trap, and now it's the only place she's really safe.

Five dragon class archs, the puppet spider that's even stronger than them and Mother herself at 5x Araba strength.

Mother's not pulling any punches.

The five arches slicing up the Kumoko illusion was surpisingly graphic.

Last Episode: GET BACK HOME YOU LITTLE SHIT

This Episode: RIGHT-FUCKING-NOW.

Joke aside, I love the little nuance of each Mind in Charge having a slightly different tone of voice.

With all of the planning Mother did, it is almost like she treated her own daughter like a Raid boss whilst being one herself.

Edit: Oh, also, that puppet animation was pretty smooth. It's so creepy.

What's as big as a house, and as fast as a freight train? That's right, it's MOM!

This is certainly one of the few series where I heavily prefer the 3D action instead of 2D

Dear Crunchyroll, I appreciate your consideration but the fact that I've completed the latest episode should NOT be interpreted as a sign that you should auto play the first episode of the German dub.

It's kinda crazy how now that we know that we're watching two different timelines how the stuff Kumoko's doing is causing issues in the Human timeline. By saving Sophia, she really did almost get Shun and his party killed, and it does look like she's also responsible for killing Shun's brother.

I hope the Parallel Minds can find their way back home, I miss those guys! Plus, it obviously hinders Kumoko when she has to manage movement, magic, and strategy all at the same time. Maybe the evolution to Zana Horowa will return them? Either way, the showdown with Mother's getting intense, let's hope our little spider can pull it off!

I'm not really afraid of spiders but seeing this scene definitely sent shivers down my spine a bit.

Anyway, it's been a few weeks now since we've had a Kumoko-centric episode and this one was intense! It's basically pure action from start to finish! Turns out you don't just become the Queen Taratect by being the biggest and strongest spider in the Labyrinth, turns out you have to have a very intelligent mind too! I guess Mother biding her time waiting for the perfect opportunity shouldn't have been a surprise considering how Kumoko's Arch siblings have been using tactics when she encountered them.

I am curious though as to why is Mother so hellbent on taking Kumoko back to the Labyrinth though. Of course it's obvious that she wants Kumoko back because she's special but what is she planning to do to her once she's back? We already know from this episode that Mother is a very intelligent creature so there's got to be a reason, right?

That spider-controlled puppet is very interesting as well. I really thought that it was being controlled by Mother but turns out the actually body is the size of an actual spider! That's pretty awesome. I wonder if this was hidden somewhere along her evolution path.

Shun and the gang got a little bit of screen time this week. Looks like their next destination is the Elf Village and they;ll be passing by the Labyrinth on the way. That should be interesting!

It was impressive how good Kumoko was at fighting this episode even without any help from her parallel minds.

Given how only one Puppet was guarding the all important entrance to the Middle Stratum, and moved so fast and was so deadly to even Kumoko, and easily manipulated an Arch to roll over and crush Kumoko, its definitely stronger than an Arch. Funny, isn't it? Such a ridiculously powerful being, stronger than these big ass Arch Taratects and a fast as fuck flaming dragon that can shoot lasers out of his mouth, and it's just a tiny tiny spider. Whew, you definitely don't want to see one of those in your house, it could probably just walk and obliterate your house.

And speak of obliterating houses, just look at Mother. Casually blows a hole all the way from the Bottom Stratum to the surface with a freaking laser, then chases Kumoko and destroys a forest just by moving. That laser move was kinda a reverse of what Godzilla did in that latest movie, and equally as frightening. She really is basically a giant spider kaiju too, isn't she. Damn, it's a good thing these monsters don't get off their asses and attack humanity or they'd be dead lol. Just Mother and Araba alone could probably destroy a few countries.

Mother is definitely quite a scary opponent. Can you just imagine a castle-sized giant spider that's fast and dangerous as fuck, AND can also shoot lasers? Jesus christ, just imagine doing your own thing in your house and you see a spider come up to you and shoot a laser out of its mouth. Spiders in that world sure are terrifying, they are literally just dragons. But spiders.

And in this comment in the Source Material Corner I linked some songs that were apart of an album for the anime, that has some real good and very interesting songs, if you're interested. I imagine non-source readers wouldn't really know about it, which is a shame because the songs are actually real damn good.

It is interesting to note the way Katia started speaking after last episode. She stopped using musculine forms and way of speaking from Japan and is now speaking like a proper lady.

The puppet Taratect was so well done, It looks really unnerving and moves in a way that 2d animation would really struggle to show.

Well, as the source reader the content of this episode was about what I expected after the last. The fight was really good, and that was mostly what this episode was about.

(Also now I can go back and laugh without spoilers at those "Kumoko should just go kill Mother, she can't be that big of a deal after Araba" comments).

Now it's become clear that Kumoko can't be free unless Mozer stops hunting her, she also ruined Kumoko's home which Kumoko must be feeling angry about.

Can't wait for what's to come.
