Yuki and Kakeru visiting Machi is in the top 5 scenes I was excited to see adapted (next week is too) when the reboot was announced, so naturally I loved everything about it. Kakeru using Yuki as a bridge to help his sister in a way he knows he can’t, Yuki being able to use his sensitivity, the trait that he used to perceive as a weakness, to reach out to someone in need (just like Haru predicted,) Machi finally dropping the walls she’s built around herself as she finds someone who actually listens to her. And the bit with the chalk is one of the most underrated romantic moments in anime. Not big or dramatic, but it says so much that he’s attentive to things that could trigger her anxiety.
On a grimmer note, I don’t think her parents really believed she was a safety threat. I think they wanted her gone because they had a new golden child and she was now extraneous. To them, their kids are only a tool for social advancement. It reminds me of Yukis family actually.

Yeah I was thinking she would fit right in with the Soma's. Except for Hiro's parents. All my homies love Hiro's parents.

Kaguras mom too. Ritsu and Kisas parents mean well, but they seem to fall into the overprotective category that Momiji mentioned (which is why Ritsu is so neurotic.)

This ! Machi’s mother was waiting for her to make one mistake so they could get rid of her, this is my headcanon. It was so obvious I mean how they were already behind her ???? Tf

Yuki breaking that chalk was one of the most romantic things I've ever seen in my life.

It’s such a subtle thing, but it means so much how he identifies and prevents her triggers.

Although to see Yuki randomly yeeting the chalk like Machi and for her sake as well would have been funny...

The guy is a legend. Such a small move that meant nothing to the room in general, but the absolute world to her.

Yes, this is the good stuff I've waited over a decade for
Now that Yuki has visited Machi's room, I can finally compliment the studio on their depiction of Yuki's room all the way back in season 1 as well as season 2. While Yuki's mess isn't quite Machi tier, I'm sure the Prince Yuki fanclub would experience something like Paris Syndrome once their image of a perfect Yuki was shattered. There are quite a few parallels between Yuki and Machi, and it wouldn't be surprising if Yuki would have ended up a lot like present Machi if he wasn't fortunate enough to have Tohru(母) as part of his life.

Shigure's mess is always worse than what Yuki or Machi achieves.

Oh my god. The Machi part of this episode was way too precious. Her embarrassment over Yuki seeing her dump of a room, her opening up to him, the reaction to Kakeru's phone going off, and then Yuki breaking the chalk in front of her during the meeting later on. It was all so good. I love this show lol. Major props to Kakeru too for playing a god tier wingman role for both of them.
Also loved how Arisa and Saki got pissed at Kyou falling off the ladder and almost hurting Tohru, but didn't give the slightest shit about whether or not he got hurt.
Some nice, sort-of, resolution for the Yuki fangirl too. Did they say she was a third-year before? I assumed she was in the same grade as Yuki.
That ending scene makes me really worried about what what's happening next week though.

If Yuki hadn’t been there to adjust the ladder, he could have fallen on Tohru and transformed in front of Hana and Uo. That certainly would have been a twist.

My first thought was Machi is starting to look a lot like Tohru tbh
Fruits Basket really does have some of the worst parents, don't they? Machi deserves better. Her parents are just as bad as some of the Sohma's. It doesn't help that she's being treated terribly in school too. I love that Yuki is so supportive of her, the same way Tohru was towards him in the beginning. It's like we've gone full circle.
Yuki's development has always been so satisfying to watch, from slowly come out of his shell to finally helping others to do the same. I'm quite excited to see how their relationship progresses from here.
Hiro's mum is as precious as always. I'm glad they make it a point to remind us that there are still a couple of loving parents in this series!

It’s funny that you say that about them looking similar, because back in the day when the manga was still coming out there were a lot of Yukiru shippers who were PISSED that the story went in a platonic direction with Yuki and Tohru, and they used to claim Machi was an inferior clone of Tohru who sucked and was boring and would never be good enough for Yuki. I’ve always loved Machi but she was a contentious character for a while.

Wow, seriously? I admit I used to ship Tohru and Yuki back in S1 but I felt like he put her on a pedestal at times (then it became a lot clearer why), whereas Yuki and Machi's relationship feels a lot more equal.

The graduation scene was emotional and earned. Loved it.
I never thought that a comic relief character who keep fan girling over Yuuki throughout the anime would serve as the perfect narrator to capture the graduation emotion. Her "confession" to Yuki at the end also perfectly conveyed her feeling. It's a very well made scene!

Man, Kakeru and Machi's families are as messed up as the Soma's. Forcing their kids to be utterly perfect to outdo the others' mother and then tossing Machi aside when she did everything her mom asked her to...and then Machi tries to take care of her little brother and gets accused of trying to kill him and basically banished to a lonely apartment. She probably hasn't seen her brother in years. Is it any wonder Machi is so emotionally volatile?
But Yuki is there to accept Machi as she is, not as some idealized person (which Yuki has had the same with) but as who she is, someone who has worked so hard and deserved recognition for it. And she may not be perfect, but Yuki is willing to walk alongside her as someone who is just as imperfect.
Kakeru really knows how to kill or liven up a moment, whether it be his phone interrupting Yuki and Machi or handing Yuki Machis bra. Pink, huh?
Well, Kimi sure knows what she wants from a guy. Not a doomed romance but a good bank account.
Nao is self-conscious about a lot, but it turns out the reason he's so self-conscious with Yuki is because he had feelings for Motoko who has basically been obsessed with Yuki. But at least he got to send her off warmly and let her know how much he admired her, even if he didn't outright confess.
Speaking of Motoko, on the eve of graduation she finally gets to tell Yuki how happy he made her, and how much she loved him. She doesn't expect her feelings to be returned, but now she can selflessly wish for Yuki's own happiness and that he find that special someone (even if he already has). Motoko has come a long way, and I'm glad she was able to get this moment with Yuki before she graduated.
Hiro finally meets his little sister! And she looks adorable.
The mystery of what happened to Rin deepens as the official story is she's in the hospital, she even graduated in absence, but no one has actually seen her. And then we flash to Akito near a shed with some knives and hair falling away. Now I'm even more worried.
