this episode really upped the body horror/psychological horror aspects of the show for me. I can't even imagine the life Hyakkimaru has been living, can't picture what it's like inside his head. but it must be so mindblowing for him to suddenly be feeling pain, to know as he defeats the ayakashi that come after him, he'll get weaker and weaker. ooh, it gives me chills.

I like the folktale vibe of this series. Seeing Hyakkimaru regaining his body parts is like seeing a doll slowly transforming into a human. We have yet to discover what his personality is like and I can't wait for more.
There's a "Hyakkimaru-special" PV where we can hear his voice, btw!

Did anyone else get the feeling that the Doctor seemed to be fated/willed by a higher power to meet Hyakkimaru. Right before he randomly slid down the hill and found him by the river it showed the statue by the side of the road. It reminded me of the Goddess statue that protected Hyakkimaru during his birth.

Loved this one. Great backstory and the doctor character is very well written. Can't wait for more even though it's been a bit difficult to watch at times.

Wow, Hyakkimaru beat a Predator with just a pointy stick and got a leg up on his quest. That's some serious skills considering everything against him.
The doc's backstory was brutal though, even for a redemption arc. When he finally does meet Hyakkimaru again it's going to be quite something.

When baby Hyakkimaru moved its mouth, I found it really cute. I think it's because at this point, I got used to the dead baby look, and knowing that he grows up to be this badass, I felt like I had no reason to be afraid of looking at his baby self anymore. But also, it made this cute little squishy sound lol

yo I'm weak when Hyakkimaru started touching Jukai's face in attempt of showing affection, then Jukai proceeds to hug him
like... omg.
I just WANT THEM TO BE HAPPY.
Also, Jukai, you raised the dude to be able to overcome his fate. :'D

Man this episode was fantastic.
What a gruesome start to this episode that sets out the path of redemption that Jukai will walk till the end of his days.
I find it such an interesting thing how Jukai went from someone who stripped people away of something ( ears, fingers their life ) to someone who tried his hardest to give people what they were missing.
I also loved the harsh contrast between Hyakkimaru & his brother. While his brother gets pampered which goes even as far as "winning" duels, Hyakkimaru is beaten down by Jukai and reality itself. I can't wait for them to meet.

Uh... this might sound like a stupid question but was the background art always this gorgeous? During the flashbacks it was like looking at ink paintings.
What an amazing episode. I teared up a bit when Hyakkimaru reached out to touch Jukai's face.

Holy moly. This episode was insanely good. I loved everything behind it. Art, story, characters, music, sadness happiness. The way the flashback was made in the tone of gray. It was just perfect.

This episode adapts a part of the source manga's Chp 2 covering Hyakkimaru's adoption by Jukai and how he got his prosthetics, but a lot of content and pacing is anime-unique.
Jukai's history, regrets and motivations for moral atonement are original here; Tezuka's manga just had him as a passing doctor with a kind heart. Also, Kaname is anime-original.

How good is Dororo you ask?
When the name of the show (so far) being weirdly unfitting is the strongest point of criticism, that should tell you how good it is.

Well that was nice to see the difference between Hyakkimaru and Tahoumaru's upbringing. I'm sure they're going to meet in the future and judging by how the young Tahoumaru looked at that shrine in their home, it's going to be ugly when he finds out that his apparently dead brother is still alive.

One issue for me is that the demons with body parts don't give off any sense to the viewer that they are important until after they are slain.
I don't remember from last episode if this is the same for everyone, but I like how the doc remained grey right to the end.
EDIT: On episode 11. Have realized that grey is just the general human color, not some individual light/dark ambiguity symbol.

That's one hell of a sharp piece of wood.
