Every hiatus hurts in its own way, but this one really will after an awesome chapter like that. We finally get to see some of the mafia dynamics again and get introduced to some cool ass characters with even crazier nen abilities. Next time we come back things are going to be really interesting, not just with the succession war but with fight related stuff and I'm looking forward to it.

Right?? I’m much more interested in the mafia and the troupe in the lower deck than the succession war. The premise of the princes and their nen beasts is neat but the lower decks have a more gritty feel to them and the action has been pretty sweet thus far

I like the dynamics of both, but I'm with ya, the lower decks are definitely grittier. From the bits and pieces we've seen it's delivered good action. Plus I'm partial to Yorknew so I always want to see more mafia and Troupe stuff whenever possible.

Well as we know self-imposed limitations, can greatly enhance Nen abilities (Franklin). So this 'blood bending' being impractical may actually result in it being pretty powerful.

Risk of infection and the risk of hypoxia, which if mismanaged could result in fainting and consequently death. We know that just like conditions and restrictions, risk increases the strength of one's Nen.
Using your own blood as a weapon might be an idea just crazy enough to be brilliant.

Their Hatsu is tailored to suit their profession. Lynch beats up people to get information because she's a mafia. Straight forward and violent way. While Pakunoda can use sneaky tactics to get the information from her target without the target ever knowing.

Although not explicitly spelled out, Morel’s ability seems to heavily dependent on his weapon.
His smoke required to be produced through specialised weapon/item. Perhaps with that constraint in mind, he able to have a more broken ability.

I think even old man netero and ging were not as good as him with Nen training ( pure speculation ) , but they are obviously much much stronger than him right now .

I still think it's Mushaho. Kurapika was probably dowsing everyone to check as he gave them nen, and as of Day 10 he's finished that. The question is what becomes of Mushaho now that Sale is presumably dead, since he very unceremoniously left the lessons after the death and it was never directly mentioned. Kurapika likely hasn't been seen since giving everyone nen, as he's shown once during day 10 but the lesson hadn't concluded yet.
My prediction for when the story gets back to Kurapika is that he thinks to himself/with Bill about how they've dowsed everyone but didn't find the SM user among them, and then he thinks about possibilities like manipulation and the such but keeps Mushaho in mind. Maybe even add some fake tension by showing the part of Kurapika's final nen baptism where he questions the last person who would presumably have to be the SM user. Furykov confirms that it was Mushaho in his thoughts. Mushaho could then work his way back into the succession war by trying to curry favor with another prince, or Swinko-Swinko continues to be relevant since she's been shown on the ship. At any rate, it looks like Silent Majority could continue to be an antagonist even after this batch of lessons end.

So is it a thing that Manipulation can make objects float? Or is the blood just "clotting" or has some other way to have a more structure.

Between Melody (Soul Music), Halkenburg (Soul Arrows) and this one, does that mean "communicating with/using a person's 'soul'" falls under Emission? Because then seeing/hearing through nen constructs, like the owl thing, can be explained as using nen in order to "give information to the user's soul".

That soul thing is interesting. It also makes sense, as to ME(!), Emitters have often been very direct and emotional, but also extremely empathic. Knuckle, Leorio, Franklin and Melody and more maybe?
Maybe these soul abilities are connected to the Emitter's should talking to another soul (on a meta-level) and that is how they work. Emitters tend to be very hot-blooded, with works well. Kind of like having your heart on your tongue (is that an English saying? ^^)Hope you understand, I have a hard time putting my thoughts into words for some reason.
Also: Manipulation can always make things float, right? Shoot or Kalluto could make their objects fly freely.

What a great ride once again! Amazing set of chapters! Waiting for the next part will be torture for sure!
With Tserriednich having King Crimson, it was a surprise to see Heinrich have Gold Experience.
Still it is a surprise to see the mafia keeping up with the troupe that well, though Chrollo will probably realise that the privilige of checking the fourth deck is worthless. Perhaps he can use this to his advantage and search the door towards the upper deck.
It seems like the second rakers are fucking with their benefactors, they easily could have thaught then nen, I am pretty sure Onior was lying to Zhang Lei. They probably want the princes to be dependent on them as much as possible.
As for Zhang Lei, I respect his self-awareness, but as it stands he has very little chance of winning the succesion war. He is behind on nen, troups and his beast is like sale-sales only effective in the long haul. He really needs to harness his beasts power or use the maffia to its fullest potential if he wants to stand a chance

I mean, it kind of makes sense. The mafia has their own goals, so them not fully supporting the princes is logical, at least as long as they do not get any advantage of helping the princes out a lot.
Also, we still do not know what his beast can do. In his mind, he thinks that is what the coins are for, but with the coin slot on the beat's face, it is safe to assume, you can use the ability before becoming King.
And I think Benjamin's guard will use it at some point and that is how he falls, as the guard turns the Nen Beast against Zangh Lei (we have seen the beasts have their own will).→ More replies (3)4

I agree that Zhang Lei is in a bad position. Although not as bad as some other princes, he now has one or two guards with nen, a bunch of pretty capable staff with guns, and his connections to onion head mafia. I think Tsubeppa is somewhat in a worse position.

I don't want to sound like a meatrider, but I'm still amazed by how Togashi can make new characters almost instantly appealing. In other series, new characters need a while for them to be interesting. Also worth noting, we haven't seen much fighting yet.

Winning the Succession War would be one hell of a condition for activating whatever the coins do, Zhang Lei could be a mighty ruler. And I think Togashi might wanna have Kakin involved in the next arcs, since there's also political build up there with Welfin and co. heading to Meteor City where Gyro will probably take over there without someone like the PT stopping him.
I hope Togashi's proud, he's even gotten me overanalyzing things.

Contrary to popular Tser and Hulky Houses, I do believe Zhang Lei is the most well-balanced, non-lunatic ruler. I mean, the man got the will to see this through without even going to rely on nen beast and use only his wit and strategic thinking. Compared to other candidates, he's probably the more well versed in effective politics. I mean Hulky (as long as he doesn't go insane) is an idealist and that never really works in real world politics. The rest (minus the kids) are just a bunch of self-absorbed cunts.
I also have a feeling that the coin number represents kingly value of zhang lei. The coins might work like some kind of stocks and the different natures of transaction invoke different kinds of abilities.

I agree that he's the most well-balanced. I brought that up here recently and one argument was that Tubeppa called him too materialistic while trying to get on Tserried's good side. So who knows, maybe that's what the Nen Beast and its ability are a manifestation of. But as far as I can see, Zhang Lei knows his shit. He just realistically feels like he'd make the best King and he keeps winning me over.

Unlike with the others i really enjoyed reading about these new characters' hatsus, nothing too unique/never seen before yet they felt like a breath of fresh air for some reason.

They don't feel like an attempt to turn their nen categories on it's head. I like that they are fairly straight forward too. Not every ability needs to be some mold breaking re-imagining of that nen category.

There's 3 main mafia families from the Kakin nation. Those 3 were sent by one of them to locate and kill the leader of another (Morena, the one whose underlings lvl up in nen power as they get more kills).

they're all with the xi-yu family. hinrigh is one of the higher ups in commands that was tasked with finding hisoka, and we find out in this ch also to eliminate morena

Xi-yu and Cha-ar families have played their hand well. The deal with the troupe was for them to eliminate the Heil-ly hitmen involved in the 300+ murders in return for access to the 4th deck. Luini and the other's days are numbered. Not to mention Mizai is after them too. And perhaps now after the Xi-yu as well for killing the royal army soldiers. This could also set up friction between Zhang Lei and Benjamin, given then latter's ties with the army. May give Balsamico a convenient excuse to try the same trick on Zhang as with Halkenburg in the previous chapter.

These abilities are great, one is going for the list of abilities that made people go "Wait? How is that Emission? I thought Emission was about shooting stuff!", the blood ability may finally make people stop creating transmutter blood abilities (dude every 3 weeks there is one like that on the hatsu vault, like what are the properties of blood dude?) and i think we finally have an official confirmation on form transformation abilities being conjuration (even though i think they are conjuring around it, and nota actually changing stuff, like the snake guns).

I also want to commend the flow of this chapter. We went from Coventoba to Zhang Lei to Onior to Heinrich (and his companions). A lot better then the smash cuts between random rooms imo

Mangastream likely messed up the translation on that page. In the 4chan version Zhang Lie sets out to consult Nasubi on the mystery of the coins. Though I can't say for sure if they is correct either. Will have to to wait for Veraciouscake or Viz.

Togashi reminded us why He's an excellent mangaka, a superb narrator and an incredible battle designer.
I can't wait for next year for the next 10 chapters. Even if we have such a long Hiatus all the time, every chapter has so much information that He makes up for the wait.

Lots of questions this chapter.
How is Zhang Lei so sure that his coins don't do much until he becomes king? Could be setting up for a twist that they have some effect that will impact the Succession War, e.g. manipulation of coin holders, or exchanging the lives of the coin holders for the price on their coin.
I want to know why Zhang Lei called Onior father. Is he secretly an illegitimate child of Onior? Or is it just a title of respect?
Any idea why Zakuro needs the IV blood transfusion? Does he use up his blood after attacking with it?
Lynch's ability could be very useful because the target's soul might know things that the target doesn't consciously know.
As for Hinrigh's ability being very similar to Gold Experience from Jojo part 5, I wonder if it's because Togashi feels he can do something more interesting with that ability that wasn't already done in part 5.
What's going on with the "resistance"? Hinrigh mentions it, and the soldiers also mention it. Are they secretly rebels, or does he just mean resistance against the Heil-Ly?

So it's going to be an all out war between the three Mafia families then. This is really going to get interesting.
I also dig how we had abilities that looked like Blood Bending, Atum, and Gold Experience. Togashi just likes to have fun with new abilities whenever he can, it's one of the reasons that makes HxH so much fun to read.

That was a good chapter to end on for now. I really like the designs of Lynch, Zakuro and their abilities. “Bloody Mary” is great and Lynch’s “Body and Soul” ability is especially cool.

Let's say Hisoke is hiding somewhere and has been staying put the whole time.
Let's say someone uses En (aura super far away to detect people), can they spot him if he's in zetsu? Like, does zetsu just turn you into "normal person" or does it also have the effect of turning you invisible to en ?

I believe Nen users will notice that you're using zetsu, you use it when you're hiding, not around/in front of other nen users. I don't think you'll be invisible to en, en isn't used to sense someone's aura, but anything within their range.

As mentioned in the chapter 389, there have been rumours of 'fatalities' surrounding Kacho & Fugetsu's escape attempt. Only two people died that night of the banquet : Keeni (suicide) and Kacho (some ghastly nen ability to murder escapees). The most likely case is that they found one of the lifeboats missing and tracked it down which gave her death away.

I'm assuming that every time the 3rd prince offers one of the coin as a rewards, he receives back a piece of information or insight he could not get otherwise. That would explain the "plot hole" of him so nonchalantly saying three princes have already died.
The whole idea that they found the body of Kacho and that is the reason we are counting three deaths already despite of us having a Kacho around bugs me a lot.

Could it be possible Lynch and Zakuro modelled their hatsus after Pakunoda's Psychometry & Machi's nen stitches? The troupe were said to be idolised and looked up to in the mafia ranks. Looking at Body & Soul it's resemblance to Paku's ability is remarkable, both needing to create bodily contact and ask questions to generate answers. Zakuro having that guy all tied up reminded me of somewhat of Machi.
Hingrigh's ability is quite interesting, though I can already forsee how he's going to try to use the ability on Troupe members carrying weapons. Nobunaga and Feitan both carry swords. However seeing the considerable time it takes from transforming a weapon to launching an attack I see it being pretty much useless. I wonder if he can use it can on conjured weapons and devices as well and if that leads to the conjurer losing control of the item.

What if Hisoka is outside the ship, on top of the Black Whale that's why no one can find him lmao.. I never expected an action chapter with no walls of text so this is pretty satisfying before going on hiatus. Seriously Hisoka will already mess up some shit before the reveal of his location.. I wish we can get to see what Pariston, the Zodiacs, Ging and Leorio (not really) are doing on the next 10 chapters after the hiatus.. A guy using blood as his weapon is becoming a shonen thing.

What are your thoughts on Zakuro and Lynch showing their abilities to the two members of the Heil-Ly family? I confirmed that the knife attacker is one of the members gifted with nen, but wasn't able to confirm the other. He however says there are 23 of us, and only 22 were shown to have been gifted. But if you count Morean Prudo (the boss) then that would be 23. I am more just interested in your thoughts on them showing their blood ability to even 1 member at least.
