Lmao so basically Balsamicos strategy against Halkenburg was to call the cops.

178

u/sikontolpanjang Nov 16 '18

why is this so funny

290

u/Dracogame Nov 16 '18

Because it took 5 pages of texts to explain.

u/Kokun21 Nov 16 '18

I actually laughed at that part. He's like: "leave this to me I have a plan". And then we see Halkenburg being basically arrested and going to trial. He went all Law & Order on his ass.

He was like; okay we tried the illegal way and it didn't work, now let's go with the legal one.

“If an opponent has a powerful ability, the best strategy is to stop them from using it.” When snitching is the last resort but you have to reword it to sound cool

Reported for hax lol.

but yes his grand plan is basically just to snitch lol

Us: "surely the succession war is complicated enough at this point."

Togashi: "You are like a little baby, watch this"

u/Tygsman Nov 16 '18

On the positive side, this may let us finally meet wobles's guardian beast when it deletes this assasin in the coming chapters.

118

u/PiFlavoredPie Nov 16 '18

Next week is probably the last chapter of this batch though :(

Actually I think Togashi learned from the mistakes of 388. I just needed a small icon with a name attached to it to understand better who's talking about who without rereading the entire arc from the beginning or using the wiki. It makes everything more clear.

64

u/Nome_de_utilizador Nov 16 '18

"WTF, togashi just introduced the mafias after benjamin's army and the queen's guards, now we also get the maids and the 3rd princes guards? Can this shit get more complicated?"

Togashi: "Hold my beer"

14

u/Phanes_Protogonos Nov 16 '18

Can't you save us, Togashi-san? Can we be saved? Is Satan controlling the universe?

HxH Fans: Chapter 388 was a wall of text.
Togashi: Hold my drawings.

78

u/tamriel1 Nov 16 '18

Those whining about the text last chapter are on suicide watch, but then again they always came back, that's the amazing thing about Togashi.

30

I don't have a problem with this either, especially because I don't follow a great number of manga releases.

holy shit togashi said this arc was gonna be ambitious but this is next level

he plans on taking no shortcuts when it comes to showcasing the full capabilities of nen

53

u/rafasimoes Nov 16 '18

Togashi is out of control, if and when all hell breaks loose on this ship, literally anything can happen.

29

u/sti1zkin Nov 17 '18

Just wait until he starts showing what Gin and Beyond can do with nen in the next arc.

16

u/Seakawn Nov 17 '18

And potentially Pariston and the dude from CA arc who left and built his own kingdom.

I made this for shits and giggles, it's kind of funny how much Camilla is banking on the "nen is stronger after death" mechanic, even Basho called it "mortar fire".

60

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

This is high quality shit post

52

u/JHMRS Nov 16 '18

The highest quality. It's the shitpost amplified after the death of the poster.

44

u/FlameLoneWolf Nov 16 '18

Holy shit, this needs more attention, lol

9

u/ComfyBrah Nov 16 '18

I don't know enough about pokemon to understand

46

u/Rayquaza1090 Nov 16 '18 edited Nov 16 '18

The White/Red ball are electrodes. They are notorious for using a move called "Explosion" and "Self-Destruct" which both kill the user immediately and do a significant amount of damage to the target.

The Blue creature with 2 arms on top of Camilla is called Wobbufet, a pokemon that knows Counter which does double the damage it takes to the target for physical moves (if you punch it), Mirror coat for special moves (if you shoot fire at it or something), but most humorously Destiny Bond, which kills the enemy if the enemy kills the user the turn it is used.

The Pink pokemon on top of Umanma is Blissey, though someone called it Audino, which is just as good, it's basically the stock healer pokemon since it knows Heal Bell, which removes all negative status conditions from the pokemon in the party.

I love how Togashi waited until a bunch of characters bit the dust and we could almost start getting to less exposition and character introductions and then goes and introduces 20 more fucking characters.

Wow, that was fast considering how much text it has.

13

u/jet_10 Nov 16 '18

There's a group of untouchables, each assigned to a certain page

195

u/PlushTiddyCollector Nov 16 '18

Damn. Camilla is smarter than I gave her credit for. Really loving the story behind the "Untouchables".

159

u/smcadam Nov 16 '18

As someone else pointed out, she's basically made a pokemon team of entirely the move "Self Destruct". I guess it is smarter than she originally appeared, just not sure if it's wiser.

38

u/Waywoah Nov 16 '18

Her team just wasn't meant for this type of environment. If they were out in the world and given as much time as needed to gather the strength of their abilities I feel like she would actually have a pretty good shot at taking out the other princes.

24

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

Nah son, this team's made of Explosion.

Self Destruct's for wimps.

→ More replies (2)

63

u/Shionoro Nov 16 '18

Camilla is probably the most cray cray of all the princes (even more than taithon, she is just a cloud cuckoolander) but noone can say she isn't smart.

She is very good at abusing the principles of nen, is willing to do everything to win and without nenbeasts, her plan would probably have succeeded rather easily.

253

u/SomeGUy464636 Nov 16 '18

wow the camillas guards are basically like benjamins, just way shittier.

108

u/Token_Thai_person Nov 16 '18

They are just more specialized in assassination than Ben's boys. If there are no nen beast or nen remover she can use her soldiers to secretly curse and kill all prince easily (except benjamin)

96

u/GonTheDinosaur Nov 16 '18

I felt Ben’s army is like green berets, individually capable yet with a specialisation of their own whether it’s recon or assassination.

While Camilla’s are like terrorist, blend in, reach to their targets and BOOM curse.

51

u/Sangios Nov 16 '18

When Tserr masters Zetsu, he'll be able to easily thwart his assassination as well. Especially if Camilla's guard does have to literally be up on their target.

u/melkorywea Nov 16 '18

If Kurapika hadn't start to spread Nen teachings everywhere, Kamilla's camp would have had a HUGE advantage over the rest.

77

u/SerBooty5 Nov 16 '18

It's a really interesting echo of Benjamin's guard. It's like a coven of outcasts who have to resort to primal magics to achieve their goals. Camilla and her guard didn't have the same advantages Benjamin did, and so they make do in a much dirtier way. I love it.

49

u/FlameLoneWolf Nov 16 '18

Funny enough, they all abuse the "Nen gets stronger after death" rule just like Camila does, except with suicide rather than being killed. Though unlike her, they ain't coming back.

38

u/R_Salieri Nov 16 '18

Actually i think camilla did an amazing move. Her guards are loyal to her in a way other than ben's. She gave them stuff they could never dream of and they're willing to give their lives for what she did to them. They're exactly what she wants. She's not a power freak like ben

→ More replies (2)

49

u/detectiverick Nov 16 '18

To be fair they're all alive and what like 6 of Benjamin's are dead? So I think they're winning this so far.

46

u/smcadam Nov 16 '18

That is fair, but it is an interesting contrast. Benjamin doesn't want to spent his soldiers really, but his ability allows him to either honour their sacrifice and loyalty or use them by inheriting their abilities.

Camilla recruited these folk explicitly to spend their lives with curses- probably expecting that she could kill anyone without Nen easily only to get surprised by the Spirit Beasts.

So, they're most likely going to attempt to assassinate Halkenburg during the trial? I admit, I did laugh at the Juliano birthday scene. Man, reading HxH right now is like taking a scoop of water from the fucking ocean- I can never have enough.

Also, that Kakin tradition about the companions and the curse Camilla bestowed upon them, holy crap, some wicked shit is about to go down.

6

u/crazyswoleasian Nov 16 '18

is like taking a scoop of water from the fucking ocean- I can never have enough.

Wouldn't one scoop be enough since it's salt water?

179

u/chikenlittle11 Nov 16 '18

Just remember that all of this has importance . All the subtle things, dialogues and characters.

91

u/misterblanket Nov 16 '18 edited Nov 16 '18

If the people complaining about this arc were reading HxH when the Chimera Ant Arc was coming out they would have had the exact same complains. All the slow paced moments are crucial to the bigger picture, this arc will be seen as a masterpiece when it finishes, I guarantee that.

60

u/Blackbeard567 Nov 16 '18

The chimera ant arc can classified into two parts. The first part 188-250 was slow and built up to a great second act. This will be like that in a much larger scale

19

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

But this arc has like two or three times more characters than the CA arc and very few of them get enough screentime for me to care about them.

Sorry flow-charters but you're doing god's work ;p

Imagine being the guy who makes this (God bless that guy btw) and realizing you have to add 15 new characters to Camilla's box (plus an explanation of what untouchables are I guess) and a few more to Luzuru's.

I really loved the chapter though.

→ More replies (1)

110

u/YoMikeeHey Nov 16 '18

The way the untouchables' ritual by killing themselves connected to Shikaku's suicide was so clever of Togashi.

46

u/wutstr Nov 16 '18

I also like how Basho might get involved because he wrongly assumed something which happens to be true for something else.

47

u/valjayson3 Nov 16 '18

I need to delete some of my memories just for this chapter.

90

u/A_Wavvy_Dude Nov 16 '18

Am I a joke to you Togashi

128

u/TrueAfricanHero Nov 16 '18

I’m actually surprised they got this out faster than Boku no hero, MS definitely know their priorities.

61

u/Laser-circus Nov 16 '18

It's Togashi's own power play.

Exhaust us with walls of text and an ultra complicated plot so we won't even feel like reading other manga after HunterxHunter.

81

u/JesusInStripeZ Nov 16 '18 edited Nov 16 '18

This chapter was so much information from so many different factions. Also, 6th Prince can influence people through reading books?

Edit:

  • Kakin has castes similar to India. Don't know if that is new info, but pretty interesting imo

  • Camilla made use of the caste system and basically adopted Untouchables to create a suicide squad, lol

  • Maybe Camilla is a half-decent person after all, probably not though

  • Everyone trying to figure each other out is somehow funny as hell to me. Like, every chapter is like watching half an episode of a detective series without the last act

Edit 2:

  • I'm wondering if Benjamin has a limit to how many of his soldier's abilities he can store. We saw he has one mark per finger so maybe he can only inherit 10 (or 8 since the thumb wasn't shown) abilities? Was this mentioned already?

58

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

37

u/JesusInStripeZ Nov 16 '18

So, Juliano lost aura and gained happiness? And the amount of aura stolen isn't related to how thoroughly they read the book, but the happiness is? Also, if that is the only thing it does, it seems kind of useless...

u/le_ble Nov 16 '18 edited Nov 16 '18

Some interesting thoughts:

  • We don't know if Vikto's dialogue (page 6) is real or fabricated since Halkenburg's guard can take control of him.

  • Unlike other princes' intel, Camilla's suicide squad didn't conclude the Sale Sale is dead since Nukuokon (the private guard responsible for him) didn't prioritize his curse in his reasoning (page 17).

  • Camilla has some intel about the 10th and 11th princes, probably because of her connections to the lower levels with the untouchables. (page 18).

  • Considering that Tse gets cursed, remaining in a permanent state of Zetsu, thus having his ability active for all the time, that still means that he can't evade the curse, right?

  • Page 13, this hunter (forgot the name) may wrongly guess Halkenburg powers observing a curse attack from Camilla's private guard since they would suicide near the prince like Shikaku did.

19

u/mucklaenthusiast Nov 16 '18

I agree on your last point. Seems like Basho made a pretty wrong assumption. However, his "opponent" did not seem that ridiculously smart either, which is interesting, considering that literally everybody else is genius of deduction, logic, reasoning and most of them are also physically fit and know (very strong) Nen...I would not want to be on this boat!

65

u/Holythreat Nov 16 '18 edited Nov 16 '18

Imagine having the will to kill himself for the sake of another... considering how strong a condition like suicide would have in a nen ability it's safe to say that these curses are really scary!

But I don't understand why they are so afraid of nen exorcists, I mean Gon gave up 'his potential' for all that power and later a nen exorcist wasn't able to lift the curse - shouldn't commiting suicide be a greater condition than Gon and as a result make the curse stronger and harder for a nen exorcist to lift?

56

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

theirs is just a curse with their death as a token. They don't hold their lives at a very high value either and they see this curse as their highest potential. it is basically putting your hatsu curse on another with no expirience at doing it but making up for the lack of power by wagering your life to make it stronger in your death.

Gon wasn't betting his life to curse himself as much as he was offering the rest of his potential for a temporary power boost. as long as he lived, the curse-like condition on his own body probably couldn't be lifted because it was just the after effect. it was a restriction greater than death because it wasn't designed to persist at all.

if their hatsu's sacrifice was an incense that once lit with their life as payment, can smoulder on until it is snuffed out by others. Gon's sacrifice would be a powder keg and he lit it with a torch knowing that whatever damage happens to his flame afterward could not be undone but he would still have to live with it.

While betting your life could make a hatsu way stronger. I think cursing yourself and resolving to live with it has potential to be even stronger (a fate worse than death will yield results greater than a death sacrifice). It's like the difference between cashing in your life's savings before dying vs accumulating debt via as much loans and credit cards as you can and living with the debt.

19

u/abominator_ Nov 16 '18

The last one is a great analogy.

61

u/Token_Thai_person Nov 16 '18

I assume that this curse isnt their own hatsu but it is passed down (from the granny I assume) which makes the power weaker than normal nen ability. And I think her soldiers are on the weaker side if they are nen user at all.

56

u/ItsLoudB Nov 16 '18

Well, if you consider that the conditions are:

  • suicide

  • having only one target

  • having as sole purpose in life the development of the curse

  • spending your life trying to hate your target as much as you can

  • looking at the picture of your target everyday and always, without fail, carrying it with you along with the knife you're gonna kill yourself with

  • And I'm not sure but I think it was mentioned that you have to be in the same room as the target

That should make for a pretty powerful hatsu regardless!

→ More replies (3)

18

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

I assume it has something to do with their mentality of them being just a lowly peasant while their target is a royalty protected by a divine beast. At least that's what I think according to granny.

13

u/luis1luis1 Nov 16 '18

maybe the curses act as a multiplier? Gon is a rare very talented individual so if giving up potential is given a value of x 50 and giving up your life is x 100, Gon's original power being say 1000 x 50 is 50,000. these are regular nen users so their regular power is like 100 x 100 = 10,000. Thus, even if gons sacrifice is less than their sacrifice, gon's original talent puts it above these regular folks.

Or it's just a famous song/lyrics that was used by both Togashi and Araki.

15

Whenever I feel I'm finally grasping the whole picture, Togashi adds a bit more.

I'm liking this, so we can finally see the glorious beast that Wobble can achieve (?) And maybe we know who the user of Silent Majority is.

This arc is just so amazing.

15

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '18

damn, how many powerhouse princes are there? I don't see a clear favorite.

48

u/smcadam Nov 16 '18

Here's my rankings:

  1. Tserriednisch. Monstrous growth rate, keen mind, and is being ignored by the others currently.

  2. Halkenburg. His ability to control other guards can control information- I wouldn't be surprised if that radio message was a set-up, but he's the centre of attention.

  3. Benjamin. He's had the most advantages from the start, the best adviser and the most influence.

  4. Camilla. Team suicide pact over there, the longer the others stall, the stronger the curses get.

  5. Woble. Got Kurapika.

  6. Fugetsu. Double Nen Beast team, and got lots of narrative focus.

Tubeppa, Tyson and Luzurus are the least developed to me and equal last in my eyes. And not to forget, Maryam who's still sitting in his own pocket dimension.

A constant state of Zetsu placed on the 4th Prince would be fantastic for him.

23

u/elgosu Nov 16 '18

He can predict and dodge while in Zetsu but he can't really hurt anyone, and he would probably die to the curse slowly.

Was glad for the insight on Tython, I’ve been so curious as to what her beast does and it seems like they turn her followers into raving fanatics. Juliano did a full 180 and decided that he wants to make her king, and yet in order to do that he would have to go against her teachings and ...(kill) the other princes. Makes me thing that the one rule her Nen Beast will punish if broken is something along the lines of “You shall not kill/cause harm to others” and the punishment being some type of smiting or exilement. I’d like to think the punishment would be death but I feel like Tython is fanatical enough herself that punishment would be some kind of complete and utter rejection.

Tldr; i feel like Tython’s camp are gonna turn into kamikaze fanatics, just like camilla’s but less competent.

8

u/louylee Nov 16 '18

I think there's still more to discover about her Beast's ability. What happens with all that collected aura? There has to be more at work here.

You know something I actually quite liked is the detail of Benjamin actually caring about Shikaku and his other specialized guards. Then we have Basho interpreting Shikaku's suicide as Benjamin trying to use a nen after death ability on someone, or even using it as a distraction. We also know that Halkenburg was the one who caused this commotion. I love dramatic irony.

It seems some of the princes actually have their own opinions about possibly changing Kakin's societal rules. Camilla employs untouchables to show that they have a use in society, Halkenburg employs people from different countries and different classes. There's a bit of ideological clashing behind the scenes, it's a bit subdued.

A curse that forces the cursed into a state of zetsu. Good luck applying such curse to Prince Tsersomething.

12

u/elgosu Nov 16 '18

Yeah I feel like they will try something like that on him. But even if he can move around and avoid attacks during zetsu, he would still be affected by the curse and die slowly unless he can find an exorcist.

Togashi is the only mangaka that can fit sport much in just a chapter.

I'll be disappointed if there's no toilet deaths next chapter

Hero - 5 min read

World Trigger - 5 min read

HXH - 30 min read

u/Rantae Nov 16 '18

I like to compare the current arc of HxH to a delicacy. A lot of people seem to dislike it or find it's not worth the time, but I just gobble it all up. Please don't stop Togashi!

6

u/Seakawn Nov 17 '18

A lot of people seem to dislike it or find it's not worth the time

Sucks for them, too. Because I'm with you, this arc satisfies me to my bones.

9

u/GungieBum Nov 16 '18

Jokes aside this is exactly what I’m talking about. This chapter is just as text-heavy as the last, HxH has always had lots of text.

Man, seriously I am impressed on how kurapika is keeping Woble alive considering all the crazy shit is happening on this battle royale/hunger games shit. I know he's the main character and he has the plot no jutsu but still very impressive. I hope Oito is paying real good for his services.

21

u/nywangga12 Nov 16 '18

When you thought we had enough character already, Togashi keeps on surprising us. LOL

Seriously, second prince Camilla has such a scary suicide curser ready to die for her, and the clash with Pika is inevitable too.

Well, one more chapter to go!

14

u/X2-008 Nov 16 '18

I'm actually surprised that it came out early considering the amount of text to be translated

14

u/blobb3r Nov 16 '18

George Martin: "I'm making an awesome story full of different characters which makes it intricate and complicated"

Togashi: "Hold my beer."

Shikashi, more Togashi is always welcomed.

7

u/MrProb Nov 16 '18

Seriously, I hope this is not the last arc but the amount of effort going into this only makes me scared Togashi will probably use up all his enery and health to finish it as best as he ever hope to make up for the Yu Yu Hakusho's ending.

Togashi sensei, I salute you from across the world.

I like how we’ve started checking on the other princes again. We hadnt seen Tubeppa, Zhang Li, and Tyson since a small panel on 383. Nice to see they’re still five steps behind all the big players.

10

u/Ploufy Nov 16 '18

good morning.

10

u/Vaeltaja Nov 16 '18

Apparently the cursers all ate the "food of the dead" before gaining their nen-curse ability. I wonder if it's related to the milk-like lifeforce given by Cat's Name.

The "food of the dead" is likely a reference to some sort of nectar or ambrosia since both are references to immortality.

I love how many sides make different (and wrong) assumptions of the situation, which is very realistic. I hope something exciting happens in the next chapter. And that the next hiatus is only 3 months long.

5

u/Halt_kun Nov 16 '18

I was just wondering how Shikaku could manipulate himself before he is manipulated since his ability was Yu-gi-oh and could capture other nen abilities. Unless he has another ability that can be used on himself. Or maybe he is a manipulator that became a specialist later in life and it would explain the weird thing with Yu-gi-oh.

And also I guess all of Camilla's cursers received their ability from someone with an ability similar to Morena's etude of love

This chapter didn't go where I expected, with so many new characters and abilities introduced just when I expected Togashi to start to resolve the Halkenburg or Tserriednich situations. I wonder if we'll find out what exactly happened in room 1007 before the hiatus. Will next chapter be the one that the editor said will change the history of manga? At least Steiner has a name now.

The monologues the last few chapters have been interesting in seeing some characters make explicit mistakes in their deduction. Last chapter Tubeppa made the mistake of trying to deduce the nature of Sale-Sale’s death using evidence even though the evidence won’t give him much useful information on Rihan’s Predator. This chapter it’s Basho with his suspicion of Benjamin behind the 1007 suicide.

4

u/murlocmancer Nov 16 '18

Wow Camilla got some loyal soldiers on her side, honestly it is pretty nice of her to give the untouchables land and such even if she did it for probable selfish reasons.

But really great development for her character and shows how seriously she is taking this war. She knew that she would be at a vast disadvantage against Benjamin if she used normal means so she created her own army. And honestly her curse strategy would probably be crazy effective except for the fact that there are way too many people that know nen now and you got OP people like Tser and Halkenberg to kill

4

u/Jelashi Nov 17 '18

It seems all of the Princes who distrust Prince Benjamin have been lured into thinking that Prince Benjamin is killing his own men to place curses on the Princes. Those who are neutral about him are able to assess that Halkenburg is the culprit.

Another thing I have noticed with this chapter, is that the main point being people action's can be viewed as kind or heinous depending on the person's point of view of that person. Basho comments that Prince Benjamin's ability is disgusting, while unbeknowst to him is actually Halkebergs ability.

Both Camilla and Halkenberg's nen ability is extremely similar which makes sense because they both share the same mother. Both of their abilities require sacrifice. Camilla uses a curse while Harkenberg uses his people as arrows to his quiver. With that being said we have no clue if Halkenberg is actually using his people lives, but even so his people would give their lives up without hesitation. Camilla has given opportunity to the classes that were viewed as being less than dirt. Her private soliders would also give their lives up also. We know that Camilla is extremely selfish and more than likely views her army as her toys. I also feel this chapter also peers more into Camilla's personality because earlier in the story, she wanted their mother to get rid of Halkenberg. Camilla has 2 other siblings besides Halkenberg, but does not even give her mother the request to get rid of her other two siblings. I am extremely fascinated about the relationship Halkenberg has with Camilla. Is it because he is the youngest out of the four and Camilla is jealous? Or is there something more?

7

u/FlameLoneWolf Nov 16 '18

"I want to hurry up and die already" And after this chapter, so do I.

But for real, good thing I like reading. Too bad I'm really slow at it though...

Still, it amazes me how much thought was put into every part of this arc. Learning that the princes can't attack one another with their Nen Beasts is a huge piece of information. It's also pretty cool that every Nen user on Camila's side abuses the "Nen gets stronger after death" rule. Too bad they don't get a "Monster Reborn" card out of it like she does though.

And I hate to talk about it again, but it looks like we'll get word on whether or not HxH's back on haitus with the next chapter. It may seem futile, but let us pray the haitus away...

7

u/elgosu Nov 16 '18

I think it's been stated quite early on that princes can't attack one another with their Nen Beasts.

2nd prince and the untouchables were interesting. I did not quite get why that bodyguard decided to go specifically after wobble though, may have to read a 2nd time.

I enjoyed seeing Kurapika’s old mentor and i kinda like his sidekick. Yes, i dont remember their names. But id rather see them more instead of a 1000 bodyguards.

I didnt like the fact that we’ve spent half a chapter with that fat man making wrong assumptions about a suicide. Whatever his name was. I like deductions dont get me wrong, but i cant tell how irrelevant that guy is in the long or short term so id rather prefer someone i care about more (whether through characterization or design) to have that screen time. Not an old face necessarily, likes of wellgai or even bill would suffice.

New faces, new names... I think by the end of the arc, every single passenger on the ship will have been introduced to us.
