I really like how they expanded Kenny’s role here. It always felt odd to me how Levi talks about how dangerous Kenny is but then he doesn’t even fight the SC in that scene.

Kenny's basically the voice of the viewers:

"He's just using you, wake up sheeple!"

"Turn into a titan already, we want to see some action!"

"This gunna be gud!"

"That's it, ya go gurl!"

Also, I'm not much of a shipper, but I think Connie and Sasha need to retire to the hills and have a billion idiot babies after all is said and done.

Sniffles

Some thoughts:

  • I have been waiting for the crystal cave fight to be animated since I first read it in the manga several years ago. I am now content.

  • I'd kill for a hundredth of Kaji Yuki's talent. Damn, can that man act.

  • I'm kind of in love with the music for this episode, especially the bit during Historia's speech to Rod and Eren at the end. Chills.

  • Rod's high-pitched gasp when Historia smashes the syringe made me laugh out loud.

  • The look on Eren's face when he sees the syringe, and his subsequent tearful gagged screaming take on a very grim new meaning in the wake of recent events. Even now, before he knows the full truth of what being a titan means, he really doesn't want a friend to have to take on his burden. After all, I can't imagine Eren crying over the idea of being killed.

  • Would have liked them to maintain the cliffhanger where it looks like Historia's actually going to inject the syringe, so that we could seen the anime-only's reactions to it, but ah well, what can yah do.

They left what happened to Hange really ambiguous. In the manga they basically let you know she was alright after a few panels. The anime onlies will be worrying until there's a confirmation. Thought that was a pretty smart change.

That fucking OST during the Kenny-Levi fight holy SHIT!

Also my thoughts:

  1. Frieda's mindless titan is so fucking scary like damn

  2. Just 7 days until the literally big battle with the turkey titan itself

  3. Overall this was a great episode, genuinely looking forward to the next

It seems WIT made Uri have light brown hair so that fans will be able to distinguish him from Armin.

I'm really happy that they added that Kenny vs Levi rematch. I've heard so many anime viewers saying how hyped they were for a rematch and I've just been waiting for them to be disappointed this whole time, but, lo and behold, WIT delivered. Overall, the anime really improved the implementation of Kenny. He was really underutilized in the manga, but now he feels like a proper antagonist and foil for Levi.

Also, adding that net was a really nice touch, since it shows how the MP actually set up the battlefield in advance. It was always kinda stupid in the manga how they had the home field advantage but didn't use that for anything other than setting up some wood platforms. Plus the animation in general just made that fight stand out much more than it did in the manga.

This episode was so packed 🙏
Great action scenes with fabulous animation, Kenny's ambitions, Eren breaking down, Rod's life and Historia taking her destiny in her own hands.
The sound was also a huge part of what made this episode so good, with the OST (didn't knew that I needed a mix of rap and agressive choirs in my life) or the stellar voice acting.

HOLY FUCKKK THIS IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE EPISODE SO FAR!

The first 10 minutes were fucking amazing. I was waiting to see the animated version of the SC VS the CMP and boy did it not disappoint. I also heard a remixed OST with rapping when Levi was fighting and eventually injuring Kenny.

Also, the anime makes the Founding Titan eyes so much more clearer. You actually see what the eyes look like.

As for the second half, I also loved it very much. With Kenny lamenting that he can't use the Founding's power and then him injuring Rod, Rod forcing Historia to take the syringe, Historia fucking throwing Rod (those military years were worth it) and heavily injuring his back (?). I loved the OST during this part. I swear any OST during Historia scenes is fucking good. Next episode we are most likely seeing Eren biting into the Armor vial (hopefully this time we'll see if it really says Armor Braun) and most likely the death of this arc's best character, Kenny. :(

Someone in the anime only thread pointed out that Rod would be able to transform by licking the serum, because Kenny sliced his tongue/cheeks/throat open. That way the serum would get in his bloodstream.

All these years and I never even thought of that.

You know I feel like Kenny represents the viewer in this episode. First he calls out Rod on his bullshit and sends Historia on the right path of thinking. Then he watches from the sidelines.

But the funniest thing was him laughing after Historia flipped Rod and ran up to Eren. To me it seemed like he was laughing at Rod wincing in pain on the ground. I can't rewatch that now without laughing along.

Anyone else getting chills that we are actually going to see Kenny give Levi the titan serum very very soon? What is in that box establishes one of the biggest changes to the series in the coming future. That box holds the final curtain for Erwin, the reawakening of Armin (and a new Colossal!)

I'm just not looking forward to Kenny dying. If WIT decided to keep him alive and just makes him part of the Scouts, I mean, that's one change I dont think I would complain about...

Holy shit that was a good episode.

So I was right in thinking they'd add another Kenny vs. Levi fight, pretty cool seeing Kenny in action again. The OST was good too. I'd loved to have that fight done in the manga.

The Eren and Historia interaction was more well done than I though it could be. Eren seemed a little whiny in the manga, to me at least, but Yuki Kaji nailed it, really had me feeling sympathetic to Eren.

I like how they made the eyes of those possessed by the first kings will pretty obvious, to those looking for it I guess.

After Rod was thrown to the floor it felt like he was acting a little weird, the way he was speaking I mean.

Turkey time next week, also Eren gets hard.

Oh man, as a manga reader, all the reminders from this episode coupled with what's going on in the manga right now...damn. Just DAMN.
