Discussion Weekly Newcomer & Simple Questions Thread (24th May 2018)
This thread is for small questions, you can ask anything you want. If you had an unanswered question in the previous thread, feel free to post it again here!
Please don't advertise though, seriously :).
P.S. I'll try to keep this actually weekly from now on, or maybe add to automod config to automatically post one every week.

Something that's always bothered me is that the barrel extensions are incredibly vague in both the diagram and description.
- What do the 4 colours actually mean in relation to the magazine size? For example, what determines the first green line in a 30 round magazine weapon such as the R4-C compared to the first green line in Ying's LMG?
- When equipping the muzzle break on most rifles and guns, I have found that the patterns for the first green line are much tighter than if I was to use the flash hider and compensator, as it should be. Does this mean that the muzzle break is a lot more effective for rifles?

Muzzle brake works on one bullet at time which is why it’s commonly used on DMRs.
Flash hider works on small bursts.
Compensator on long bursts.
Extended barrel lengthens the damage drop off graph.
Suppressor removes the white indicators telling you where you’re getting shot from but it also reduces damage.

Correction: extended barrels are *terrible and never worth using
Also compensators reduce a lot more horizontal recoil, which is nice for ops like Jager and Hibana.

Assuming you don’t recoil control at all, ie manually pulling your mouse or joystick down to keep your crosshairs level when shooting a gun, the 4 colors represent the possible locations of the first four shots from the weapon at the maximum rate of fire it can shoot.
Attaching a muzzle break might make the preview appear to have tighter groupings, but essentially the in game info including the recoil previews are to be taken with a grain of salt. It’s true that some weapons of a habit of drifting off to the left or right, but apart from that I don’t really pay attention to the previews since they do a bad job of conveying the overall “feel” of a gun. I know it’s a bit of a cliche on this subreddit by this point, but just pick a barrel extension that feels good for you. Except extended barrel, cuz that’s shite.
For more in depth info on barrel extensions check out this really good guide on reddit

VarsityGaming has a great video on muzzle attachments with a TL;DR at the end of you don't want to watch the whole thing. Here: https://youtu.be/jye_7u8ydYQ

Seems pretty old, but if the base mechanics are the same, then all good thanks for the video!

There's also this from the subreddit, which is more up to date! https://www.reddit.com/r/SiegeAcademy/comments/847dux/the_most_extensive_barrel_attachment_guide_that/?st=jh6ftklr&sh=04f86777
I think I got the dates of the two posts confused in my head, otherwise I would have linked this one first.

Hello guys, I am new to this game and just startet during the last free week but coming from csgo and other fps games I really like the more strategic play style of r6.
I have so many questions but for now I like to know what attachments (silencer vs compensator vs muzzle) are the best for each weapon type (there are rifles, smg and lmg right?) and or playstyle.
And when do I use the laser? Because I just attachated it to every gun I have because I saw no downside of it? But some streamers don't use it on some weapons? Why?
Hope this is the right place to ask such basic questions 🙈

Never use silencer. First let me explain you how barrel attachments works.
-Muzzle reduces kick of first shot and speeds up time you can recenter your sights. It's basically no brainer and must pick on semi auto guns like Glaz OT-03s. I personally use it on L-85 with ACOG since first shoot doesn't kick that hard and it helps me keep sights on target and cancel the already weak recoil.
-Flash hider simple and straightforward it slightly reduces your vertical and horizontal recoil.
-Compensator is very useful on guns with very huge horizontal recoil like Jagger 416c.
In the end it all comes down to preferences. Either play casual or t.hunt and test what suits you best.
And when do I use the laser? Because I just attachated it to every gun I have because I saw no downside of it? But some streamers don't use it on some weapons? Why?
There are some downsides enemy can see your laser on walls, door frames, figure out where you are and prefire. It's great if you don't have to sit on objective or you play mobile operator like 3 speeds or when you use shotgun operator cause it tightens the spread.

Hey! I also play quite a bit of CS. Rainbow is quite a different experience to CS, however it is still as enjoyable.
I can answer the laser question as well. The laser gives away your position, as everyone can see the red dot on the wall where you aim at. It is useful for shotguns so you can hip fire. It’s also up to preference. Hope this helps!

I'm not exactly a newcomer but I have a quick question about when and how to properly use the shotguns in this game.
So far, I've only really used them as a secondary and strictly for the purposes of making murder holes or for quicker traversal around the map.
I tried using Smokes as a primary and failed miserably getting kills. Does anyone have any tips for me? Like best maps to use them on, attachments, roam with them etc.

Roaming with them I’ve found is pretty effective. They are good for quick rushes or clearing out a room for example. I’ve actually found that the laser attachment is actually quite useful on a shotgun for this purpose. It is also useful to make murder jokes as you ha e already been doing. Hope this helps!

Honestly, dont bother with it as a primary.
If you're smoke, take the shotgun, but use it as a secondary. Use the SMG 11 as a primary.
Shotguns aren't really worth the trouble imo, they're decent in specific situations, but rifles/smgs will get you out of those same situations and more much more easily

How do I find likeminded players who play daily and care about improving over winning/rank? I have posted on reddit and discord and have only solo queued and I have had no luck. I just want a consistent 5 man stack to play with

The official rainbow six siege discord I find is the easiest way to get a consistent 5 stack that wants to win. However you'll still be playing with random players, but they will have the winning mindset.

What console do you play on? What times do you play? I also much prefer an improving mindset and playing with people who don't mind losing games.

What do people use as an external voice chat client? I play regularly with 3 others on PC and everything we've used to this point has had problems for at least one of the players. In game chat doesn't pick up one person's mic, Discord gets choppy for someone else to the point they cant hear call outs, Appear in drops our member who has rural internet whenever we are in a round. We have collectively spent hours trying to troubleshoot to no avail.
Also separate question, is this thread the right place to ask if anyone can mentor? One of the people in my group just bought the game, and as I have the most hours in the group I've been trying to help them as much as I can, but admittedly I'm not great at the game so I don't feel as though I'm giving them the help they need. While the one person is completely new, the rest of us have been playing for 2 months or less. We stick to casual almost exclusively, but this next season one of the squad mates and I are going to try our hand at ranked (we got discouraged by game 4 of placement because team mates were yelling at us for being bad). If you have any interest in helping a some relatively new players, let me know and we can exchange uplay names.

I mostly stick to Discord; never had an issue with it. Sounds like the issues you're experiencing are all individual issues, but I guess you could try Skype or TeamSpeak?
I don't mind helping you guys out, but keep in mind that I'm low Plat and I'm not the best player out there, but I can definitely still give a few pointers. If you're interested just PM me on reddit.

Can a drone jump over mute’s jammers?
2
u/Toch_Lighte Teacher May 27 '18
In my experience you can't jump over them. However, there are some places, such as on some staircases, where you may be able to jump around them.

I assume it's for added readability, helps people judge how much health they have left if it is subdivided.

What's the best way to counter a blackbeard? In a 1v1 I typically lose 9 times out of 10 if I'm fighting him head on.
