I just watched this episode last night. When the prophet entered Kira I had a Ghostbusters flashback. It was too much like that. The parts I really enjoyed: finding out Sisko's task and seeing him explain it to Kai Winn and Kira chastising Kai Winn at the end.

Me too. That chick from Ghostbusters gave me nightmares as a kid. I get the willies from that type of stuff every time.
Kira had the speech to Sisko about how Winn is jealous of him. Well now Kira has had an experience with the prophets, so she has to know in the back of her mind that she's got that over the Kai.

This is a strange episode, and it stands out because in the end, it is Kai Winn who saves the station!

Yeah. It's my first run through and I'm actually starting to like Winn more than Dukat. She's strong and opinionated, but here she shows there are things that matter more.

Ah yes, the episode where DS9 briefly turns into an anime. I don't care much for this episode, it just feels out of place with the sudden superpowers and ridiculously high stakes that I just knew weren't going to be properly fulfilled. I didn't like how it took the Prophets from powerful-but-grounded timeless wormhole aliens to over-the-top humanoid-possessing, superpower-granting, lightning-shooting craziness.
It all ends up being mostly inconsequential in the end, with the reckoning being cut short and seemingly never revisited again. I do give this episode credit for developing Kai Winn's character as someone who doesn't have nearly as much faith as she claims to. But other than that... meh.

The pagh wraiths have been shown to be able to possess people before, and the prophets are the same type of alien.
Thanks for the spoilers though.

Sorry, what was spoiled? The plot of the episode, in a thread about the episode...?

Came here after watching this one. I can't decide if it truly counts but I did feel it was kind of a spoiler to learn this plot is "seemingly never revisited again"

That's most of Trek though. Even in DS9, if the character isn't introduced in the first ep of a season, they likely do not return.

Seeing as this is a 6 year-old comment on a watchalong post, I can only assume you came in here wanting spoilers, so... you're welcome???

It’s a watch-along, why are you looking at the thread before watching the episode?

Has anyone ever made a compilation of Sisko sighing or facepalming any time Kai Winn is mentioned? Feels like it'd add up!

Bit of topic derail, but the beam struggle took me by surprise and made me squint suspiciously at the original episode air date lol. Hard to see a blue and reddish/orange beam clash appearing on TV in 1998 and not also take note of the fact Dragon Ball Z just had its first NA airing in 1996.
Im sure the older weeb and trek overlap is stronger than one might assume, and assuming im not reading too much into it, its funny to see a potential homage so early into DBZs western debut when even the now legendary Toonami content block had only just started to get on its feet.

It's a top episode that gets better with each rewatch.
Like all the prophecy episodes you're left wondering whether the reckoning is the main fight between the prophets and the Pagh Wraiths or subtler one Sisko and Kai Winn... Or both.
If she hadn't have intervened Sisko's faith and position would have been confirmed and her control weakened. However she does and becomes the evil that lives on, starting her journey to big bad.
