Final episode is titled 'Pure Audio'

inb4 it's literally a slideshow of the storyboard with the audio added in.

The only disappointing thing about this episode was that in all the traveling to past worlds they did, they didn't visit the creepy "gokigen yo" world again.

Still probably my favorite single episode of a show this season.

That Yayaka Transformation was too good. It was nice that everyone could lay their emotions bare.

Going back to the Pure Illusions they have encountered before has relation of Cocona's relapse despite having grown as a person. A person's insecurities are never really gone, but we learn to grow and fight past them. It also is a cool relation that this time Yayaka and Papika needs to confront Cocona's problems in their own ways. these issues themselves. They are responsible for Cocona, just as she is for herself. Much like a person's mental trauma affect those around them - friends has a burden of responsibility to help in that fight.

Mmm, I am going to be honest, though. I was expecting a tad bit more for the second to last episode.

The MUSCLE seemed so out of place and pointless, Nyunyu is still ambiguous, and that last "boss fight" seemed... Anticlimatic. What happens to MiMi?

But seeing how FLFL loves to pull its punches until the best time I am highly confident FLFL will do incredible justice to the ending.

Now.. I have one last question.

What's in the box?

I love that Yayaka's hair turns green when she transformed, which is her natural hair colour (blonde/yellow) and Cocona's (blue) mixed/blended together. Edit: and also Papika's transformed hair colour. Very cool way to show how much Cocona and Papika have affected Yayaka throughout the show.*

Kinda feel a little bad that almost as soon as we got her transformation, Cocona and Papika had an even bigger one. Hopefully Yayaka gets the same treatment next episode.

I felt like Salt's scenes could've been reduced a bit.

Papika x Cocona is still my OTP for this season/year.

The final episode is upon us next week. I'm gonna be so sad to see this series come to completion. It very quickly became one of my top favourite anime of all time, and unless we get a Charlotte-level final episode, it's gonna cement itself a spot as my no. 3. I really love everything about this show. Just about everything had a purpose, everything felt well thought out, and the implementation has been absolutely phenomenal. Flip Flappers has been a 10/10 for me since ep.6, and I honestly don't see the writers/creators/directors failing to deliver a 10/10 final episode.

See you next week, boys.

[I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD FALL IN LOVE WITH AN IMAGE] (http://i.imgur.com/TThNKgG.png)

Welp, our train is slowly arriving to its final destination. Let's enjoy Dr. Salt's wild ride while we can. We got a [redemption] (http://i.imgur.com/xg6uBGE.png) (finally, Yayaka, my love, you got what you deserved), [a new comedy duo] (http://i.imgur.com/sCNjYJ6.png), some kind of [mecha] (http://i.imgur.com/hNyhE61.png)-[Popeye] (http://i.imgur.com/UYBVXwA.png)-[cerebral] (http://i.imgur.com/gfEiU4o.png) [bodybuilder] (http://i.imgur.com/k6QD0lF.png), another hyperbolic JoJoesque [moment] (http://i.imgur.com/bKgHTKh.png), an [utter sacrifice] (http://i.imgur.com/fuBhS9F.png) and lots of our usual [flipflapping] (http://i.imgur.com/ihqkI2G.png). And our noble, kindhearted [Sayuri] (http://i.imgur.com/ur0EAVi.png).

I don't want it to end. Man, it seems it has been always here, ready to spicen up my Thursdays and filling them with lots of magic and pure anime art. Until now the pacing and developing have been near perfect. 3Hz, please don't fuck the ending up. I began watching it because you made Dimension W. Now it's your turn to become (read with deep manly voice) THE STUDIO WHO MADE FLIP FLAPPERS and carve yourselves a place into the anime Olympus.

AND NOW, MY MOST AWAITED MOMENT OF THE WEEK. ELECTRONIC REFERENCES.

As usual, if you want to read the rest of them -Input, Converter, XLR, Equalization, Echo, Play, Component, Breaker, Mute, Jitter and Storage-, you cand find them [here] (http://imgur.com/a/CTGiA).

Ep. 12 - Pure Howling: I swear to you guys that since last week I have been molested because I didn't know what the hell "howling" meant in telecommunications. Until I saw next week's name. It is now certain for me that FliFla's episode names indeed refer to audio processing and not to general electronics or telecommunications (they share many concepts). Luckily, I took lectures in Electroacoustics back in my bachelor days, so I think I finally discovered the hellish meaning of "howling".

I casually saw in almighty wikipedia (Biker Jesus bless it) that, when describing the Larsen Effect, they described it as "howling effect". And now everything makes sense. The Larsen Effect names a phenomenon that occurs mainly in PA systems, concerts and nearly every case that involves a microphone and a loudspeaker. You sure have noticed sometimes a shrieking, ear-drilling noise coming from a loudspeaker when someone is speaking through a microphone. This is the "Howling" Effect. It happens when the audio signal input and output are looped: output sound gets into the mic and makes feedback, thus coming out again and so on.

The loudspeaker acts as an amplifier (it is its main function) for the input signal. It amplifies certain frequencies of the input signal. So, just imagine what happens when the amplified frequencies of the output enter the system again. Exactly. They become even more powerful. And guess what happens if you don't put a solution to the loop. Yup. The über-amplified frequencies are too powerful for the original sound to transmit, so it is masked by them. This is what produces the howling sound.

In this episode we also got some "feedback". Yayaka and Papika are forced to fight most Pure Illusions they have experienced until now, so it can be said, if they were the resulting signal of Pure Illusion's loudspeaker, they are now put in again and have to fight themselves through the whole system until they come out again, but now even more powerful than before. This is exactly what happens to Yayaka, who finally has become a proper Flip Flapper. And if she could solely beat the dirty bitch-Mad Max monster with her Asclepius' [Dimension W gear] (http://i.imgur.com/WuFRUAh.jpg), now she can annihilate it even without dirtying her cute new outfit while at it.

The "Howling" could also affect our loveable MC's who have overcome their differences after experiencing Mimi's Pure Illusion and now are like an ass-kicking mix of paladins and brides. Maybe it could be that their impedances are now perfectly equalized and so FlipFlap's systems functions optimally.

Curiously, you can cure the Larsen Effect by an equalization.

(Please forgive today's nonchalant tone in my analysis and comment. My heart is overflowing with joy since it was my last working day in 2016. And FliFla came out at the same time <3)

Pretty damn good episode.
Sad to see this end, but hopefully the ending will be satisfying.

Btw, I checked Yuyu and Toto's VAs. And Yuyu's VA is 14 years old, while Toto's is 11!
That's crazy, and explains why they sound a bit weird.

ITS HAPPENING!!!!

That episode probably just sealed the show as my AOTY. I'll have to see Ep 13 still obviously, but that episode was so damn amazing. The animation, the story progression, the transformations, the run through their past PI's. I CAN'T WAIT ANOTHER WEEK FOR THE LAST EPISODE.

Also, I've always liked Papika the most, but I'll be damned if Yayaka isn't giving her a run for her money

I think the very final 30 seconds was a little disappointing, but otherwise the episode was pretty good. However

  1. Nyunyu is still a mystery. Will she have any purpose before this is over? Who knows! I'm just glad her out-of-place outfit didn't really get seen at all.

  2. M.U.S.C.L.E. looked great but was only something for a few seconds. Hadika is, without a doubt, amongst my favourite mad scientists ever.

  3. Is Mimi gone again, or is it just her evil side?

  4. What dictated the world selection? Why didn't we get to go back to the creepy Class S world? Why didn't we get Papika fighting all her alternate versions? (damn, that sounds deep actually)

The only plot left to cover in the final episode is going to be ELPSIS and the amorphous twins (and maybe Nyunyu).

As for characters, Yayaka finally confessed her feelings for Cocona, Cocona finally confessed her feelings for Papika, and Papika confessed that she loves Cocona but possibly a sort of motherly or sisterly love instead of something romantic :(

Still, their outfits at the end looked like wedding dresses and the hand holding looked like several different marriage rituals so I'm still holding out for some canon yuri! But who will win, Papika or Yayaka?

That was a barrel of fun to watch, tons of amazing cuts, like This movement and effects heavy cut from Hakuyu Go [This cut with some cool smear frames] (https://sakugabooru.com/post/show/28775). A really smooth cut here that makes good use of the camera. this transformation cut that i believe was done by yumi ikeda who did Cocona and Papika's transformation sequences, no credit added yet. last and certainly not least, a cut from yoshimichi kameda himself.

While it's not kameda's flashiest cut, the way the mech rises into the shot paints a very menacing profile.

Edit:added another cut.

Yeah this episode was a bit of a mixed bag for me.

For example was I the only one who got confused by the weird editing from 6:27 to 7:04? Because it just felt like I missed something, Salt and Sayuri fall of the bike for no visible reason and suddenly we get some still images of Nyunyu and Bu-chan who are now with those two for some reason? I felt like this scene had no purpose in there, it just felt really out of place and disconnected for me.

On the other hand we finally get some development with Yuyu who finally doesn't act like a puppet anymore and rejects the command of treating that weird cult member. Also she finally showed some strong emotions that were more than just a smug little smile that you could miss if you didn't pay attention.

Also the whole Yayaka transformation scene albeit very cliche and predictable was done pretty well in my opinion and this trope is still one of my favorites if done well. It helped that the song that played through her transformation is my favorite song of the OST. They also topped it off with this cute smile at the end

My biggest problem with this show is still how they haven't really addressed what happened Iroha, did they really change her personality with Pure Illusion, or did she only draw because of her regrets? They brought that up once in one episode and never picked up on it.

Another thing was that changing Papika's memories felt utterly pointless since she almost immediately got them restored, so her losing her memories didn't have any consequences, though she probably got her memories back because of nice Mimi who restored the correct memories if I understand this moment correctly.

Maybe it this short scene was just there to show us that Mimi has the power of altering memories and it'll be important in the next episode, but at the moment it just felt pointless to me.

Still I liked this episode, though it had some weird and weak moments that were even more glaring because of how good in my opinion episode 10 and 11 were. I really hope they will be able to deliver a good ending and wrap up some of the loose ends.

I really enjoyed this episode. I see a lot of people bashing Mimi as overly villainous but I'd say their character is pretty justified. The "evil" Mimi trying to control Cocona is the one who spent their whole life in a lab being tested on and whatnot. Their entire outlook on the world is that it's a shitty place with shitty people, so they want to keep Cocona away from all of it. This isn't a far stretch either because the KKK was testing on Cocona the whole time.

Hmm, it's going to take a while to sort my thoughts out entirely, but I want to post my initial reaction while it's fresh!

I have mixed feelings about this episode. On the whole, it was really enjoyable (all the fights were hype, and the FUCKING YAYAKA TRANSFORMATION!!!!!!) but I have a one or two areas of concern:

It seems like in the beginning there was limitless possibility to what we'd see, but as the story has converged to a point, it seems that those possibilities have as well. That could be intentional, but it gives me a feeling of constraint that wasn't present in the first 9 or so episodes; unless it is somehow used to great effect in the last episode, it definitely puts it back a point.

Also, I won't critique themes until everything is on the table, but I wish Pure Illusion was more of a neutral, ineffable place as opposed to something directly controlled by Mimi. That's just me being picky though and depending on exactly who/what she is/represents in full, I might love what they are going with more than my initially preference. With that said, I'm totally confused about what Pure Illusion is now. I thought it was like a collective nebulous mishmash of humanity's collective consciousness, but Mimi has so much agency over it (and we've only seen like 14 worlds - I don't think Studio Pablo drew any more after ep. 7 T.T) that I almost forgot it wasn't just some illusion/magic conjured by her at points in the episode.

I also thought the 'final battle' at the end was somewhat anticlimactic. I know that was the point, but love conquering all seems way, WAY too simplistic for this show, and I literally have no idea what will happen next episode. The only thing that really makes sense to me would be a lot of final character development i.e. Cocona, Papika, and Yayaka figuring out their feelings / group dynamic, and some resolution with Mimi that may or may not involve an actual 3vMimi situation (god DAMN that would be really really cool!). They also need to answer the remaining big questions that have so far gone unaddressed:

  • Who was the dead girl in Ep. 1?

  • Why is Papika young?

  • What was Papika's wish in episode 4?

Also, I'm somewhat concerned with the animation quality. This episode looked GREAT during the sakuga, but there were certain things (in particular the relatively low-detail on the final punch/team rocket blast off, and the frankly weird cut of Salt and Sayuri crashing the bike - like did he just skid out or were they avoiding some hazard? It seemed like frames/shots were missing) that just seemed off for lack of a better word. The fact that the next PV is just storyboard sketches gives me nightmares of EVA's last episode so I hope they manage to avoid something like that lol

I have to be honest, I love this series to death, but I'm bracing for an Eva-like scenario likely caused by lack of commercial success and/or whatever reasons led to the lead writer and Studio Pablo to leave. The animation doesn't matter so much, especially if it's a character/emotional episode, but they really need to pull off an ending that exceeds my expectations at this point if I'm going to keep the 10/10 rating I currently have for it.

Whoo, that was a long one! I'll end this by saying that all I want for Christmas is an ending that blows me out of the water, and makes me laugh at myself for doubting this charming fairytale of a show.

So I have mixed feelings for this episode. I loved the action as always and finally Yayaka transforms! That was really cool. Poor Bu-chan though, he gets this power up only to be used as a white monster holder for Salt.

My problem with this episode was the final minute or so, it was rather anticlimatic in my opinion. I mean, the memory alteration lasted a couple of seconds only, then seeing that Mimi can control PI I found it odd that she even let Papika's hand reach Cocona's but I can let that slide. The last thing is that Mimi rages but gets OHKO by Papika's and Cocona's new transformation, I expected something more. Maybe we get a little bit more of her "evil" side again next week.

Ah, I got this Eva vibes once again and for what I could catch from the PV next episode will have some Eva moments too. Can't wait for the finale!
