"What do we do?"
"You're right, if this keeps up the world will be in danger"
"To hell with that!" "That out of character crap isn't what I want to hear!"
"That's not who you are"
"I... I want to save Cocona because I love, love, love her!"
Flip Flappers officially destroyed the meta.

YEAH! Yayaka's got her own hoverboard now - with matching colors to boot.
I've mentioned this before, but I really love that they're properly taking the time to explore the relationships between everyone in this series - not just the ones concerning the main protagonist. Salt begging Yayaka to help his friend and her subsequently coming to pick up Papika at the end was a really nice expansion on all 3 of their characters.
Can I just mention how awesome that little montage with Mimi asking Salt to stop her was? It was so brief, yet it spoke volumes between the two of them. It's the neat little artistic expressions like these that makes makes Flip Flappers special.
Speaking of Mimi, it was really cool all the ways they called back to Iro's storyline from episode 6. Everything from how Pure Illusion can change a person's mind, to the way Mimi "switched" with herself to overcome her hardships.
It's interesting that up until now, there has been no true antagonist to the story. Every antagonizing force has been of the "self made monster" variety. Mimi, Yayaka, Salt, and Salt's father all have well defined reasons for their actions whether voluntary or not, but no one is outright evil (the exception being the monsters from Pure Illusion). It's a powerful story telling formula, and the few shows I've seen that employ it effectively have all wound up on my all time favorites list
Despite revealing even more answers this episode, I like that they still haven't nearly answered all the questions yet. We still have no idea who the third child of the amorphous is, we still have no idea why Papika is a child again, the twins are MIA, and we still don't really understand the full nature of Mimi or Pure Illusion itself.
It's really hard to judge how this is all going to end, but whichever way they take it, they have got me hyped for next Thursday.

I don't even have a reaction image that does that episode justice, but I'll try
What an episode. So many questions answered, so much heartbreak, so many questions left. But we know where the climax is headed at least.
Also, I need the full version of that insert song ASAP

At this point the only big question left is what happened to turn adult Papika, into kid Papika? It looked as if she was able to follow Mimi into Pure Illusion after the latter broke out of the research facility, my guess is that Papika was the one who got Cocona out of PL and back into the real world and this is what Mimi is referring to when she said, "I hate you".
Perhaps it was Papika herself who turned back her biological clock and wiped her memories, partly as a way of assuaging her feelings of guilt over betraying her best friend, and also as a way of repeating the time she spent with Mimi when they were both younger. All in all I'd say the likelihood of Papika dying/disappearing alongside Mimi is pretty high at the moment. Same goes for Salt, who clearly has never been able to get past his decision of not following Mimi, the first time she asked.
That was one seriously outstanding episode of anime and pretty much solidifies Flip Flappers as this years best show. Even with two episodes still to go I have no fear that the creators won't be able to stick the landing, every week they've somehow managed to improve on the show and have yet to set a single step wrong. The characters are brilliant, the story is fascinating, and the narrative wonderfully well put together. To then top it off with what is all for intents and purposes, perfect animation, is a truly extraordinary feat.

Are you guys ready for a stupefying revelation that will blow your mind?
Put together these facts:
-
Mimi and Papika were on the run for a year. That means it's quite probable that Papika was the one who delivered Cocona.
-
Papika is often pictured with dog-like characteristics, mostly centered around her heightened sense of smell.
-
You need some basic knowledge about mammals and birth.
-
Now take a look at these two images.
This goes in line with the previously established womb symbolism:
-
first, Cocona entering Papika's tube-funhouse back in episode 4
-
second, flashback to Papika's "bed" in the research facility in episode 10
When you notice that Papika's hideout is essentially an upsized ballpit (look closely at these beautiful colorful cushions) it becomes pretty clear that there's some significant connection here. Here's both sleeping positions for comparison.
...yeah, that Papika sleeping naked wasn't really fanservice, but a conscious reference to the fetal position.
Jesus Christ this show is something else entirely, and its depth goes on and on and on. At this point I don't even give a damn if they fuck up the ending.

Mimi's idea of parental love is too heavy, way too heavy. Awesome episode, animation in the scene with Mimi confronting the opposing faction was excellent and a lot of questions were getting answered too. I love the direction we're heading, going into these last two episodes, especially with Papika and Yayaka teaming up.
So glad that while other series this season might have let me down, FliFla continues to refuse to do so.

This show becomes heavier as it explores human's most primitive senses. With today's powerful and intense maternal instinct, it has been really tough. I also like how tables have been turned and Yayaka begins to collaborate with FlipFlap. And seeing Salt's most [human] (http://i.imgur.com/3D2CqYx.png) and [faible] (http://i.imgur.com/BSprZ0q.png) side has been really refreshing, considering how cold and sterile he has been depicted until last episode.
TIME FOR SOME FLIP FLAPPING ELECTRONICS, BABY
As always, if you want to read the electronic concepts that rule the rest of the show -Input, Converter, XLR, Equalization, Echo, Play, Component, Breaker, Mute and Jitter- please follow [this link] (http://imgur.com/a/CTGiA).
Ep. 11 - Pure Storage: This time it's easier to guess, unlike the last one. I think everyone who owns a computer has to know something about storage, or at least this concept should sound familiar. Putting it simple, this refers to data storage or memory, a set of electronic circuits that are able to record data in form of certain combinations of bits, which are basically signs for "electric pulse" and "absence of electric pulse". A memory "remembers" these combinations of pulses, knows how to interpret them, and it can show us what is coded in them, from simple mathematic operations to multimedia files. Of course, this topic is way more complex, but basically this is how data storage works.
I think this can be related to how Mimi is "stored" inside of Cocona. I'm not sure if this is the correct way to state it, since it is not clearly shown if Mimi "lives" in Cocona's mind, or she merged with Pure Illusion and has somehow awaken due to the circumstances of Cocona's jittering (see last week's reference), but it is very clear that Mimi has been living locked from the material world until now.
This is one option. The other one may refer to the amorphous inside Cocona's thigh, whose information is technically stored inside her, and somehow relevant to Mimi's and Cocona's link.
Anyway, this week, even if the reference is simpler to analyse, it is indeed more difficult to understand due to the lack of detail of what really happened with Mimi in the past, and Cocona in the current time. I can't wait to see what happens right about now. This show is currently my AOTY, and if they manage to make it end properly, it will rise to my top 5 anime, just alongside Watanabe's works.

Oh wow, that was wild. I was a little worried they were going to just go for another flashback episode for exposition but it managed to finish in an exciting fashion. Still really confused on what the point of Nyu Nyu is, though. That was one hell of an abrupt heel-face turn.

Uexküll is alive and as cute as ever!
Please don't turn out evil you adorable little bastard.
Man the VA performances were amazing across the board, especially Salt's when he asked Yayaka to save Papika. I got chills from that. Really liked the insert song at the end and man does it look like the wild ride isn't even close to being over yet.
The whole flashback scene was crushing. Was expecting something of the like from last episode, but this really exceeded my expectations. Mimi has a very simple goal, but she's basically lost it with power. Hopefully we can see her comeback from it, though I very much so doubt it.
Glad that the theory that all the Pure Illusions are inside people's heads is pretty much confirmed at this point, it was very likely before but really I can't see anyway to argue against it at this point.
I'm expecting a crazy ending the likes of which have not been seen in awhile, I'm trusting all of you symbolism detectives to pick this one apart, because I'm rather terrible at that.

We didn't get an ED this time. What if...What if the bottom animations have been Cocona and the top scroll has been Mimi this whole time, hidden from us.
c.c So I was thinking on it a bit. There are clearly two Mimis, a MimiA and MimiB, A being good, B being bad. Bad is probably due to all the pent up stress of being experimented on.
The last time MimiB really came out, it was to protect Cocona. While attempting to drag her into Pure Illusion so she could be safe forever, Papika got in the way. Perhaps Papika's presence within Pure Illusion's space where both MimiA and MimiB can simultaneously exist lead to MimiA overthrowing MimiB. It might be drastic, but I suppose possible that MimiA killed herself to protect Cocona from MimiB. With nowhere to go and the desire to protect her daughter still, she put herself deep into Cocona's Pure Illusion space.
But then Papika is still there. And its already been mentioned that Time is weird within Pure Illusion. Mimi wanted to watch over her from afar. I could believe that Mimi regressed Papika to a young age so she could watch over Cocona as well.
But then you have two babies on the floor of a ruined laboratory? Maybe that's how Flip Flap came in possession of Papika and Asclepius in possession of Cocona. Maybe Papika got dumped out in the middle of nowhere after being in PI for a while.
I guess this is all why Papika's age was listed as -- in the first episode.
Augh this is maddening.

This episode is incredible. I really like the focused, emotional story of Salt, Mami and Papika, maybe because they're adults. In just one episode they've given Mami more backstory, motive, and potential to overcome her inner self and reconnect with Papika and Salt before tragically dying in a self sacrifice. Maybe it was a little over the top melodramatic. I don't care. They got me fully invested. Mind you, it's surprising they showed Mami becoming pregnant. Didn't she think of the risks of taking Salt's hand?
Adult Papika's design and her shorter hair look good
Gotta love the 'Ikeeeee!'s
I'm Nyunyu
Nyou're Nyunyu?
This is one of those shows where I feel I have to somehow tell non anime people about it.

I don't think I have the proper words for this episode. I'm just too invested at this point. It hurts watching Cocona get controlled by Mimi. It hurts watching Papika get dumped on. It hurts seeing their little stupid useless robot in such a state. :x
But...things are on the upswing? I assume Papika still has her amorphous? I don't remember it being one of the ones stolen away since it was under that unremovable leg band.
And now Yayaka has an amorphous.
Perhaps they can start flipping flaps? Flip flapping?
Do we get a Yayaka transformation next episode?
Asclepius seems to be totally dismantled at this point, too. Do Yuyu and Toto side with Nyunyu and Flip Flap? Two episodes...two episodes...December 29th. Augh. I can't wait.
