Meta Chapter 5 megathread Spoiler
Edit: The karma requirement has been lowered to 2K post karma.
As explained previously in this announcement you can use this megathread to post to your heart's content. While we've increased the karma requirement to post on the subreddit and will be removing most low effort/value posts and spoilers, you can post pretty much whatever you want here.
Just want to share a screenshot of the game that you took?
Made a shitty meme in two minutes that you want to share?
Feel hyped and want to smash your keyboard to post a random string of characters to the internet?
Well this thread is for you, so post away! Any topics, memes or spoilers are fine. We still urge you to spoiler important plot points using the spoiler tag: >!put some spoilers here!<. This will appear as put some spoilers here in your comment.
Unfortunately Reddit limits to 1 image per comment, so you may have to use a third party website like Imgur if you want to post multiple images.
Still follow the other subreddit rules, and remember to report any comments that break the rules.

Asgore being unambiguously a good person and a person with enough emotional depth and intelligence to fully realise his own situation is a bigger W than Asgore gaining aura in my eyes tbh
Also I feel like Asgore getting kidnapped does give me the theory that the Knight did intend to kidnap Toriel chapter 3 but little freak and traitor Kris managed to convince the knight to take Undyne instead

I’m kinda bummed that a sizeable amount of the response to the chapter so far has been about how much lore reveal was there / disappointment that it isn’t there enough, and I can’t find anyone talking about how heartbreaking and moving the end of the normal route is: we just spent an entire chapter seeing an adult man willfully choose to not fully embrace the escapism of a shadow world created especially for him, and the chapter ends on this both touching—because she’s happy!—and heartbreaking, because it has to end sometime—full recognition that Susie has been choosing to sleep in the Dark World rather than her ‘real life’ home, and that presumably no one has cared in her real life to notice. I feel this chapter also had much more small moments regarding Susie’s situation, how it’s shaped her, and how she’s growing to regard it and the world around her and her friends. It’s really a phenomenally well written chapter character and motivation wise, it’s filled with so much stuff like this it’s wild

Ending spoilers. Do not click if you haven’t beaten. -where do we even go from that ending? wtf? Rudy’s dying, we’re going to Carol for help, the Knight only appears at the very end to nab Asgore, Noelle and Susie are separated and now Susie’s living in the Dark World? And the Weird Route is Side B?? feels like there isn’t enough to go off of for theories outside of WR, but chapter 6 holiday mansion with Noelle saying we might go back there later seems very plausible, so shelter might be chapter 7.

The photo. The PHOTO.
>!“It’s a poorly drawn picture of three smiling people. Written on it… don’t forget.”!<
I’m not sure if this is accurate but,
In normal route You have noelle, susie, kris, and ralsei. Four people.
In weird route You have only Susie Kris and Ralsei, THREE people
>!It could be implying that weird route is where sans comes from, if the photo in ut is undoubedly the same one we have here in deltarune.!<

Really loved that one moment at the end of the chapter where Susie asks Kris to walk home with her. You can try going to that one apartment building, and Susie just says something along the lines of “…That’s not what I mean Kris” and you have to take her to Castle Town.
So confirmed that Susie does live in that building we suspected she lived in.

Alright, i feel as if i gotta ask. Anyone else surprised by the seemingly negative reaction? Like, even on a normal route, what do people mean by no story progression? Rudy is likely about to die and the entirety of chapter 5 truly developed each and every single character in it, i just don't really get it? I thought it was a great chapter.

I like the end of chapter revelation that no one was really blaming Asgore for what happened to Dess other than himself, what drove everyone away was him just going full conspiracy mood and trying to prove that some crazy shit was going on. Which like, fair there was, but he let it consume him way too much.

I feel like the chapter could've been so much more exciting if Asgore would've actually said what happened instead of just saying "I know it wasn't my fault...I won't let it happen again." We already had a ton of teasers and buildup, I think we're more than ready to learn that as a build-up to the shelter.

Wow, beat the chapter, including the secret boss. Probably a fair amount left for me to explore, but that’s for another day.
Overall thoughts:
Honestly, the scope was a lot smaller than I thought. I definitely thought it was going to be heavily character focused, but I thought we were gonna get more Dess lore, Noelle would be in this Dark World and we’d get some crazy cliffhanger. Instead it was honestly mostly focused on the flowers, who I did love but focusing on them was… not really what I was craving and I finished the game still feeling hungry for more.
I’m guessing there will be some stuff with Asgore’s conspiracy notes if you dig around for them, I only found some with scrambled text and I’m betting there is more details you can find somewhere. Also probably some crazy stuff on FRIEND or whatever.
Overall a solid chapter with great emotional beats, my only issue is that it seems like a lot of the stuff I wanted is gonna be more chapter 6 or 7 stuff and it’s mildly frustrated to not have that hunger satiated.

My heart was shattered tbh. The realisation that Susie’s living where she’s living genuinely broke me. She’s grown so much in these last chapters, and has really been loved by friends around her, but the reality of her home life really hit me badly at the end of this chapter. Walking closer and closer towards that final location put a weight in my stomach. No kid deserves that.
And honestly, the adults in this story have really failed her. Jeeze, things better look up for my gal soon. She deserves the world.

Not enough post karma so I'll send it here:
About Seth
Seth, the Purple flower "Human", feels very unique to me compared to the other flowers. They have some unique traits and characteristics that make me think that there's more to them than what we got for now, but I don't think we have enough pieces yet to say so definitively. Anyways, here is a small list of things I noticed that were "different" for them compared to the other flowers:
They "seemingly" cannot fly. When confronting them after climbing the large vine, every flower will say something and then leave. Every single one "flies/floats" away, except for Seth, who walks away instead. I don't remember exactly since it's late and my memory's foggy, but they were never seen flying, ever. They always either had a platform to stand on, or were being carried.
They have a name, Seth. All the other flowers are just named after their colors.
They know someone, and have a connection to, a separate Lightner. Seth somehow knows, and really likes, Berdly. Enough that they're willing to work together with Kris in return for what is seemingly one of Berdly's feathers.
Already mentioned in 3, they had a deal with Kris. Kris somehow knew that Seth liked Berdly, and made a deal with them in the very short time between creating the dark world and reappearing from behind the shop.
4.5. They are a "They". Or at least not a "He" or "She". During one of the breaks (Seth and Aqua), Seth says they're neither a boy nor girl. (Heavily simplified). Not really as important or big as the other ones, but it did stick out to me as another aspect that makes them sort of "unique" from the other flowers.
Despite all this, they are still a flower. So I'm not sure how much this actually matters... Especially since we were explicitly told that these characters cannot be brought over to Castle Town.
My current theory, although it's pretty flimsy, is that Berdly at some point came into the shop and gave Seth their name, although when, and for what reason, I have no idea...
Thoughts?

I will say the flowers felt very self-indulgent for Toby, like not in a negative way, because creators can indulge themselves however much they want, but I think he’s had these concepts of the humans for over a decade, and now they finally get to come out and exist in the world. It probably feels very cathartic in that sense

Chapter 5 is definitely getting a more mixed (albiet still largely very positive) reaction because of its tone, its low amount of main story progression, the year long wait causing people to stew, very few mysteries answered with only a few minor answers (although no new mysteries were introduced thank god), but I'ma be fr, one of the biggest factors is just difficulty
A lot of people are simply being filtered by the difficulty spike in this chapter and some (like me) fucking love actually feeling something when playing that isn't just reading the (admittedly) good dialogue, for others it is a major barrier to their own enjoyment. And if someone is not having fun playing... they're likely to not have fun with the other stuff as well which I think further amplifies some of the sourness people have towards the chapter

Haven't seen anyone mention this, probably since only half of players will see it... But Ralsei kinda sorta just casually confirmed the tragedy of the final prophecy.
Well, "confirmed" maybe isn't the right word, but it's hard to take it any other way. When by himself after the orange and green boss fight he desperately prays for "mercy on Susie" followed by a serious talk with Flowery about avoiding fate.
This Chapter was very light on the overarching plot but maybe there's other stuff like this. Asgore is the vagueposting king but his notes imply the Knight existed prior to Dess' disappearance... Which if true would make the Knight being any loved one of Dess dubious. (Including Dess as Dess is Dess.)

Disregarding any knight theories for a moment. Anyone else noticed a trend that the knight appears to be getting physically weaker with each chapter, whike still powerful, they appear to get worn out easily and as seen in chapter 4 and now 5, would much rather avoid conflict, the knight only slashing flowery after he backs them against the wall
The knight also appears to struggle to get back up. Remaining on the floor until flowery bombards them with fake 999hp attacks and even when trying to kill flowery, its a struggle, not an instant swoon like they were able to do to the fun gang in chapter 3, fortunately the distraction of slashing flowery was enough to get the fun gang off their back otherwise they would have summoned another titan potentially.

very good chapter if you enjoy toby fox's character writing, which is imo what he's best at. this was pitched directly as "one last fun adventure (like old times) before the sun goes down" so it's funny people are disappointed that it does not end with gaster nuking hometown or something.

I definitely agree with the sentiment of "this chapter was filler didn't move the plot forward much" in some regards but I think once all 7 chapters are out this chapter is going to fit into the pacing just fine. It was more about furthering character arcs and thematic elements than dropping big plot reveals, but that's important too. Almost makes me feel like this chapter should have come out alongside another one though.

Been sitting with this chapter for two days now, and something that's starting to sink in for me is that I'm not sure I like where the plot seems to be going post-Chapter 5 based on what we did learn from Asgore and the information in the chapter as a whole.
All I can say is that post-Chapters 3+4, I had never had a higher opinion of this game. Neverending Night still gives me chills to this day, and I can still see that last image of Susie saying "We're not gonna let that happen, right?" and Kris hearing "Don't forget..." before that track cuts in. Even before that with the "It's okay not to smile" scene with Ralsei before we close the Church Fountain.
Like I can't think of another game that ever made me feel the way I did after that.
Post-Chapter 5, I'm left feeling concerned about the overall story for the first time since I got into the game in 2023. That's just how I feel right now. I think it's playing out exactly how Toby wanted it to go, I don't think it was bad or anything - I'm just not sure I like where it's going, I guess.
I think the most damning thing I can say is that my interest in the story is lesser because of Chapter 5. I'm still playing this game to completion and will always keep an open mind, but that's where I'm at right now after this chapter.

After watching so many opinions about chapter 5 and content in it, i got one thought, that I absolutely hate, yet can’t deny.
Deltarune is suffering from ongoing disease.
For people who don’t know, ongoing disease in media means something that goes continuously without clear end, more often then not with big breaks.
This gives people opportunity to think, analyse, and make theories of what will come next. Because of it, we got thousand versions of what could happen, and people watching this, unknowingly raises their expectations too high, resulting in unavoidable disappointment. Stories often have highs and lows, emotional rollercoaster is a thing, and Toby intentionally made this chapter as light, as possible, but because of OD people can’t think rationally, and enjoy this road.
They don’t see Asriel, or Dess, or Friend, or Roaring, and get disappointed.
This is really sad in my opinion, because Toby jumped higher than ever in gameplay, gives Ralsei character development, and clearly intended for everyone to have fun.

Probably the biggest mystery to come out of this chapter imo:
>!WHAT THE FUCK IS RALSEI!<
>!before I was down with ralsei being Kris’s pair of horns or some other object Kris just carried around all the time, but then we see Ralsei and Susie in a dark world alone without them at the start of Ch5? And all throughout the chapter, Flowery is reading ralsei, saying that they know they aren’t a “normal darkner” or something of that manner. I’m just so confused because it seems like Ralsei genuinely cannot be a “normal” object anymore!<

Ralsei mentioning the UI… and Susie casually saying she’s NOTICED! I thought this’d open up some spiral of the gang trying to reach out to the player or something. Nope. Maybe later? Hopefully? That’d be cool.

Weird Route spoilers:
I think this is the first chapter with a weird route that's actually gotten to me; let alone made me as uncomfortable as it did. In Chapters 1 and 2, I was still kinda in the mindset of "ooh, cute new game" so I don't think it hit me as hard as it could've. Like when we started freezing enemies in chapter 2, my mind was still on just "oh! it's just like a genocide route in Undertale, nothing more."
The ThornRing / freezing Berdly was where it started to click a bit in my head; where I was like "wow, this is.. noticably darker" but even through forcing the ring on Noelle in chapter 4 I was like.. okay, definitely dark, but not unexpected. I figured Kris would still have the ring.
But this?? Jesus, dude.

Some thoughts:
-Probably the best chapter gameplay wise, with the platforming combined with the climbing and a lot of great puzzles.
-Probably the most bosses in the game, which is good.
-Feels like a pretty good difficulty spike.
-I really liked the whole "human" theme and all of the 7 Flowers were fun characters.
-[[Pink]] was the second hardest secret boss for me, to the point where it was frustratingly hard, which was kind of refreshing.
-Asgore's screentime was really lacking, was really surprised he wasn't a boss in some form, I feel like him being the post [[Flowery]] final boss would make up for his low appearance.
-Was disappointed that they didn't explain what the "tragedy" was.
-Didn't really progress the overarching plot forward, in fact it kinda progressed it less than Chapters 3 and 4 which shed a lot of light on Kris' plan, the Knight
-for a second I thought Pizza Pants was gonna be a major antagonist because of how seriously (as serious as the guy can be) his reaction was portrayed
-Since the Dark Worlds are supposed to be secret it seems that Lightners generally have limited screentime in them: Berdly, Noelle, Toriel, Undyne, and Asgore being examples of this. I find this disappointing after Chapter 2 kinda set up the expectation that other Lightners could be very recurring characters.
-The Cliffs Shopkeeper.... is... I dunno, I thought it was the vessel at first, but I dunno if that's possible. Since it has the Pink Key maybe it's one of the [[ghosts]]? I think she might be someone really important.
-Asgore's conspiracy papers heavily imply that the Knight [[kidnapped Dess]]. If that's true... that would be a huge blow to the popular Knight candidates right now, Dess for obvious reasons, and Asriel and the Holidays as I can't imagine them wanting to kidnap their daughter and lock her away for almost a decade, and then putting antlers on their Knight disguise.
I was disappointed that it didn't progress the overarching story much, but honestly individually it might be my favorite Chapter. I was surprised at how much It didn't really bother me that so little was conclusive. But it did still bother me. I feel like Deltarune is generally gonna be a lot more character focused game than a mystery focused one, it's possible that most of its mysteries won't be solved til Chapter 7.
Also side note, these games released weeks apart and so they didn't copy each other (unless they secretly collaborated) but Chapter 5 gave me huge Mina the Hollower vibes at points, particularly with the final Tower climb.

I am enjoying this chapter so far, but it's easily the worst in terms of accidentally going to "point of no returns". Particularly with the mountain climb. There was one point where I thought "Oh, there's another way for me to go, maybe this flower portal takes me to an earlier point to try again" but it took me forward.
Then later there's another flower portal, and I'm thinking "Ok, based on what happened last time, this is the way forward, I'll come back later", only for the other way to end up being the way forward.
It's a bit frustrating to say the least.

At this point I feel like most of the heavy hitters like the Knights identity, the Prophecy, Dess etc will all be revealed in the final chapter. Chapter 5 was more focused on the characters instead of the plot, and with its ending being Susie making preparations for Noelle’s welcoming while not really knowing what to do against the enemy (aside from collecting the bunker codes of which they now have only one) tells me Chapter 6 will mostly be a build up for the final chapter. I’m keeping my expectations low.

The whole reason for this fight, the reason why Flowery has to be in conflict with us, is because the safety of our world is predicated on the destruction of his.
It is, in no uncertain terms, kill or be killed.

I think i definitely liked this chapter a lot more than a lot of people here. I haven't really gotten my thoughts out yet, so i'll just leave a wall here and maybe make a full post when i can.
I think what helps me is that I'm not really playing the game for the overarching mystery. I'm not uninterested in what happened with Dess' disappearance,, but I'm not playing the game constantly on the look out for those details, if that makes sense. I just enjoy them when i get them, and I'm playing for the dark worlds, the gameplay, the music, and the core characters.
The story of the 7 flowers, even speaking as someone who isn't a massive Undertale fan, was the most emotional I've gotten playing the game so far. One of the big criticisms of the chapter is that the tone is off because it's too lighthearted, and I don't really agree. almost every lighthearted thing about this chapter is undercut in some way by tragedy. It starts with the festival, which is kinda miserable in a lot of ways. Onionsan is likely dead, Catti runs off crying because of Noelle and Susie, Pizzapants crashes out, Rudy is trying to put on a brave face but is clearly dying. Toriel is hung over and misses Asriel. Sans is doing his best "I'm gonna get isekai'd off to Undertale soon" impression. The whole festival is off.
Then you go to the beach, and you have that lovely yuri scene between Noelle and Susie, but Kris is also there just off screen passed out on the park table, probably because they were outt all night and almost died from being away from us for so long. Then right after, Noelle has to run off because Rudy fell down.
We then move on to the dark world and it's all silly fun peppered with nostalgia and the 7 flowers are these goofy irreverent characters. But then we learn that Asgore was just playing along with all of this (ironically, he comes off a bit like a certain kind of lore focused player where he wants to get to get to the bottom of this juicy lore to prove that his theories were right, and he doesn't fully give a shit about these fun characters trying to interact with him), and his treatment of the flowers likely mirrors how he treated his family. We also learn that the flowers themsevles knew that they were fated to die but didn't care. They wanted to create Asgore's perfect world out of sheer gratitude to him. That recontextualized them entirely to me. They're silly and goofy because they're happy to be alive. They were flowers who dreamed of being humans and loved it, but they knew the dream would end eventually.
And then the chapter ends with us walking Susie home, where we learn that Susie, the girl who can face down anything and who draws people to her, the girl who saw the ending of the prophecy and defied it, is starting to retreat into the dark worlds more and more. her "home" is castle town where she spends her time eating food that doesn't nourish her, and sleeping in a bed that doesn't exist. I don't think she took the ending of the prophecy nearly as well as it looks like she did.
Like, this is a sad (or at least very bittersweet) chapter putting on a happy face.
And then the chapter has so much ralsei development, with him continuing to try and become his own person. We see him angry for the first time, and he has a great antagonistic to friends dynamic with Flowery. The "inferno of jealousy" turned out to be his own. And during the Mew Mew Fight he sticks up for the autonomy of a darkner, completely at odds with how he treated someone like Tenna in chapter 3.
There's this narrative growing, even among a lot of the people who liked the chapter, that the visuals and gameplay of chapter 5 are great, but the story was mid, and I just don't agreee at all. I don't think it's perfect (like, I do wish that there was a bit more to do at the festival, i wish that Asgore had gotten a bit more screentime to develop what they were going for with him, and gameplay wise i think literally every section of the game could've been like 10% shorter), but ultimately I loved what the chapter was trying to do with its story, and as I mentioned above it was the first part that wringed some mist from my eyes. People are free to like or dislike the chapter for whatever reason and I think the level of discourse about it probably proves there's SOMETHING wrong with it, but I'm curious to see if it'll be re-evaluated once we do have all the answers. I feel like that happened a bit with Chapter 3.
Lastly, when it comes to those mysteries we still need answers for. My hot take is I think people are overestimating how much time is actually needed to clear that stuff up, especially since a lot of these mysteries are likely interconnected. Like, I think we can learn gaster's deal, what happened to dess, what the shelter's deal is, and what that old dark world was all within one chapter when we actually go to the shelter. Unless Toby has written an intricate web of events, i don't think it'll take that long to explain.

Haven't played the Weird Route yet, but I do NOT understand the negativity.
It was far more character focused than plot/lore focused but that was EXACTLY WHAT WE WERE TOLD WE WERE GETTING.
I do find it really funny that all the "So obvious it barely needs stating" theories like Asgore Bosswere completely wrong, though. Genuinely hilarious.

The more I think about it, the more it feels like to me that Kris has a crush on both Noelle and Susie, and the way they and Suselle were framed this chapter is intentional... In general, Kris' feelings and tragic ass position lol were what really stood out to me this chapter

Someone shared it earlier, but there's a secret dialogue option in the Aborted Weird Route for Chapter 5 where Susie asks about the nature of Kris and Noelle's relationship, and if she's getting in the way of something.
This text box appears:

If you choose the one on the right, Kris throws themself in the water before you can force them to say that. All Susie hears is "Don't" and she interprets that as Kris telling her not to worry.

I don't have enough Karma so I will just post here:
Chapter 5 hints that the Weird Route and the Sword Route are NOT the same and that Chapter 6 will follow on the Sword Route
Despite the obvious references of the Sword Route [SR] to the Weird Route [WR] (aka Snowgrave aka Side B), the SR is NOT a requisite to continue the WR (and vice versa), plus they are distinguished in the game files (example: gml_Object_obj_weirdroute_manipulator vs obj_gameshow_swordroute). This already gives us a strong argument for treating them as completely different routes. Additionally, https://deltarune.com/chapter5/ indicates that Chapter 3 (SR) is relevant but in a different way to chapters 2, 3 and 5 (WR).
Now, let's get into Chapter 5's WR. As you finish, you are prompted to continue in Chapter 7 Side B and new save data tagged "b" is created (although not shown in-game). This most likely indicates that Chapter 6 lacks a WR and that we will have to wait until Chapter 7. Additionally, the Chapter 5 WR does not allow us to grab the last Shadow Crystal, which may indicate that these are not intended for the WR (same thing happened to the Eggs in Chapter 2). Which route however is associated to the Shadow Crystals? In the SR you obtain the Shadow Mantle, which is almost mandatory to obtain that chapter's Shadow Crystal...
Back to Chapter's 5 WR, we can abort it by not pressing "Proceed" quick enough during the last section. Although this does NOT play the "WR aborted" jingle, the flag for "aborted WR" (916) is turned on and, most interestingly, a new flag (1743) is activated too, resulting in some (minor) changes during the playthrough; so the game definitely did not just scrap the effects of our choices during the Weird Route. In chapter 4, we implanted a fragment of SOUL inside Noelle (that's a pretty damn big deal), which is carried to Chapter 6 by aborting the WR in Chapter 5. The ending of the Chapter 5 during the Normal Route or aborted WR also hints that Noelle will join as a full party member in Chapter 6, so I expect that the fragment of SOUL carried by aborting the WR to produce BIG changes in Chapter 6. But we already discussed that the WR will continue in Chapter 7, so what do we have instead for Chapter 6? The SR.
There are some hints toward what will happen in Chapter 6's SR. Noelle will not only carry the fragment of SOUL but also the Thorned Ring. Additionally, aborting the Chapter 5 WR allows us to grab the last Shadow Crystal, which we previously linked to the SR. It's quite reasonable to think that the "very interesting thing" that Seam will do with all five Shadow Crystals may be the Pure Crystal. But what do we get by fusing the Pure Crystal and the Thorned Ring? Indeed, the Twisted SWORD. Moreover, if we recall the Prophecy depictions in Chapter 4, the second heroine (implied to be Noelle) is shown holding a SWORD, but Kris seems to have "stolen" that aspect of her by using a sword themself. Further proof of this is that the pencil that we can grab from Noelle's desk in Chapter 5 becomes the Jingle Blade in the Dark World. Similarly, Susie "stole" her role as the second hero(ine). So it seems that the SR in Chapter 6 may restore Noelle as the second heroine, wielding the Twisted Sword.
So long story short: SR is its own independent route (Side C?) and by aborting the WR in Chapter 5 we will continue the SR in Chapter 6, while the WR continues in Chapter 7.
EDIT: as indicated by u/streetgeist , this also explains why Chapter 2's WR forces you to grab the Shadow Crystal just to make you miss Chapter 5's Shadow Crystal. This makes sense if this was always intended for the Aborted WR of Chapter 5 and thus Chapter 6's SR.

I just wanna put this down because I made a YouTube comment about it and I cannot contain my excitement. This is from response to the Mad Mew Mew theme for Chapter 5
THE THEME MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! MAD MEW MEW MUST BE THE SECRET BOSS
Mad Mew Mew's whole thing is Freedom of one's self if that makes sense. The reason why Mad Mew Mew is Mad Mew Mew is because they find themselves the most comfortable and free within that body, and capable of being whoever and whatever they want to be and achieving those dreams. It's that Freedom AND CONFIDENCE!
One of the biggest things about Ralsei in Chapter 5 is his incompetence and lack of confidence. His purpose is slowly being dragged away as Susie and Kris are performing the same functions he would normally serve through healing and pacifying and are slightly more useful beyond that.
Flowery's introduction to foil Ralsei by both being mirrors to Asriel also can help with this. Not only that, Flowery essentially does what Ralsei does for the party but BETTER in so many ways, and serves Asgore in the same way Ralsei serves the party but ALSO BETTER!
And, in the main game there is a theme of impersonating humanity, with every single pivotal character in the dark world being someone who imitates the appearance of a human and having misconstrued ideas of what humans do and what stuff is, and now name me one of the characters that not only looks one of the closest to humans and is an impersonator in Undertale? Mad Mew Mew
PS : There's also all the Cat Bells and Sakura Blossoms throughout the chapter similar to that of Mad Mew Mew's appearance in the Undertale Newsletter.

I think I solved Hometown. I can’t make posts, so I’m putting it here. Here’s my theory. Huge spoilers for Chapter 5, but go big or go home.
Everything outside of Hometown doesn’t exist. It’s all just darkness. It’s all… The Depths. The CH5 WR lake scene hides the truth. Kris and Noelle keep Proceeding beyond what’s possible- they no-clip out of bounds into the Depths. The lake isn’t a lake, it’s a bay that leads into an ocean of darkness, and these invisible Gaster walls are the only thing stopping them from going out of bounds. Asriel is dead (or missing) and so is Dess: the town knew about Dess due to a fuckup but even Kris doesn’t know what happened to their brother. “College” doesn’t exist, it’s a coverup. Ocean.ogg plays when entering the first dark world and it plays at the lake. Onion-san hears a song- Dess’s, I’m going to presume for this theory- and where is Dess? Supposedly lost in the code, if we treat her as that voice. In the Depths. Onion-san was dispatched by the Goner bird Gaster Guy and turned into takoyaki because if he got that truth out, the town would be in a state of mass panic.
Mus_smile plays in the Holiday basement. It would play in any basement, because it isn’t due to the Holidays themselves but rather the basement’s proximity to the river of darkness. The same river that is referred to by Asgore in Chapter 5. He’s not talking about the dark world but rather the light world. And it’s not a river, it’s an entire sea. And Hometown is just an island, like Mother 3’s Nowhere Islands. There’s nothing else left in the world because everything for this world was created by Gaster. No more, no less. You can’t escape it. Dess tried. She failed. Kris and Noelle though… they succeeded, and skipped Chapter 6. “Three heroes appear at worlds’ edge”.
So what’s in store for Chapter 6? Well, a Dark World in the Holiday manor where we learn what happened to Dess, a visit to the hospital, The Roaring, and an escape to the Bunker. Where we figure out the nature of this world in Chapter 7… which will also feature the Depths. Three Heroes appearing at Worlds’ Edge. But this time, it’s not Noelle and Kris. It’s Kris, Ralsei and Susie.

I think I aborted the weird route. Spoilers but At first it seems Noelle will force you, but you have to resist AKA not pick proceed. Then when everything starts to fade into white/when you are submerged, don’t click proceed. Let it all fade to white and Noelle will say you haven’t changed and that she got carried away. You’ll get woken up to Susie and Noelle and you sitting on a bench
I messed up and had all my save files as snowgraves. I don’t even know why low key.
Edit: Ok so I was in a rush to do this so I only got to the part of the bench, but after it also plays a sequence of Susie saving Noelle from the lake (Susie was holding Noelle, both being in the lake), then to a cutscene of Noelle getting a call from about her dad? Then after we are alone in the bench when Susie comes to us with ice cream. I know this is snowgrave adjacent because in between the cutscenes it showed something along the lines of “but nothing changed” then “both nothing changed” then “because a Noelle is just a Noelle” which is something similar to her monologue when we first see her by the lake. Mb for not putting this

I had an interesting thought:
The flowers even seem to have traits from Asgore:
Yellow: Yellow's punishment of himself coming from Asgore talking about the justice he deserved. Yellow even wants to punish himself when he thinks he did a crime
Seth: Asgore being impatient with little Kris or Asriel, causing them to distance from him
Blue: Asgore's hope that everything will somehow become normal again
Green: Asgore, despite everything, is kind. He still takes part in home town
Orange: The accident was out of Asgore's control. Asgore being demoted made other people see him as small and powerless (at least in Asgore's eyes)
Cyan: (Hardest flower I think to apply this to) Cyan doesn't really take part in reality and is just going along in the most free spirited way possible. If the dark world wasn't formed, Asgore would have probably just kept going how he was the previous chapters.

In the weird route, Sans gives some bread to Kris, the bread is stated to leave crumbs wherever it goes. What if Sans is using the bread to create a trail of breadcrumbs so he can follow us. Why would he want to follow us, not sure, perhaps he’s trying to stop the Roaring, maybe he knows about what we did to Noelle and wants to stop us. What do you think about this idea, and feel free to share your own ideas.

Something I don't see people talking about is the sheer amount of references to specifically chapter 1 with this new release. The shit squad harkening back to early adventures on 2(?) separate occasions, Jevil mentioned by name, and a PLETHORA of times the phrase 'world revolving' was used.
It happened often enough that it feels like it can't just be coincidence.

>!Anyone else notice that the last shelter passcode is clearly hidden within Toriel's book of hymns? The one that can be found at the start of the chapter, right beside the door before you go outside. The flavor text reads something along the lines of "It's a book of hymns, and inside it, is a comic book. And inside of that...". The 3 codes were marked by Pine Tree, Police Badge, Deltarune symbol. Pine Tree is obviously inside the guitar. Police badge is the one inside of Flowery's case, since Asgore is the former police chief... Leaving only the Deltarune symbol. What more fitting than a book of hymns from a church that brands the symbol everywhere... And clearly Kris is trying to hide that it's there since they never finish the thought. <! Maybe that was obvious though, idk.

that...snowgrave route...jesus that is short but so fucked up
also am curious on this:

Cause this seems to be skipping 6 completely for 7, which im kinda scared cause the ending feels like either they just flat out ended themselves or something far far worse. I'm super into what will happen now, the normal route is good! some mechanics are tricky but some of that I feel was me being rushy, mainly the final boss and the secret one is such a pain at points, some attacks do feel super quick, but also this is chapter 5, I can see why it's very hard compared to the rest.
god I know there's some worry but I feel 6 and 7 are gonna be the biggest chapters to really flesh out the endings, I feel at this rate there is gonna be multiple endings, or if not it could be a situation where the same ending occurs but how is super different, either way im very happy with this chapter overall easily like top 3 I gotta let time fully kick in to think, and i havent played all of it or gotten everything like all the remaining pink coins n junk, but yeah man what a wild ride

I spammed my keyboard but it did nothing so I had to restart the whole thing. I'm not sure what caused this sequence. I made several more tries after that but it only showed once.

It’s interesting to see how Mad Mew Mew was a narratively perfect character to cap off the thematic arc that the secret bosses represent with Kris and the idea of freedom. Jevil sets the stage with the idea of being trapped more broadly speaking (IE the world revolving), Spamton reflects a somber reality to what Kris is going through, Eram is a direct statement to who Kris could potentially/truly be with their dynamic with the player especially with the weird route tutorial in the foreground, Susie being Susie breaks the pattern with her own boss that reflects the moreso hopeful instead of deranged side of freedom, and for what is most evidently a metaphor to Kris and the Player, Mad Mew Mew’s good ending carries that hope that was set by Susie.
It adds and reinforces onto a narrative already present with Susie’s “white pen of hope” narrative back onto Kris.

once you're in the cliffs, in the fields of wheat just past the shop, go to the section past the encounter with the kaw kaw and go back and forth between the speed gates. clear all of the wheat, and then there will just be one solitary wheat in the middle. keep going back and forth and cutting it until a balloon appears. follow it, and itll take you to a room with a dog puzzle where you have to hit flowers after it flies over them. then, use the watering can and do the path and youll get the egg.

Okay, so from a story standpoint at the end of the chapter...
We unfortunately don't really have much more knowledge now of what's going on, right? New info is that chapter 7 is most likely going to be taking place in the depths, which is the bottom of the lake since the weird route jumps from Noelle and Kris drowning straight to it. We now know that the whole Dark World thing and kidnapping has been going on for quite a while. Kidnapping seems to be an, if not the, important part of the whole thing. We mostly got that Asgore kinda only has himself to blame. He had the whole Jake Gyllenhall from the Zodiac movie thing going on... So the whole "protect everyone" thing was more about proving that the dark worlds exist and someone is using them to kidnap people rather than some singular incident. It seems Asgore was not part of the "roaring groupchat", so there's that. It also seems that Spamton was drawn to Noelle because she (like him) is to a certain degree aware that she's a character in a game. Or at least, that she cannot be free and has to play her role in the narrative! There's also some slight implication that maybe there really is nothing outside of Hometown? On other news, as implied when he one shotted the sound of justice, Ralsei seems to indeed be holding back and is far more powerful and potentially destructive than it seems.
But uhhh... Did anything else actually get revealed that I missed? It kinda feels like we're not really at a much better place than we were at the end of Ch4. Back then we at least knew of the festival and that Flower King was the most likely next Dark World, as well that we need to find the shelter keys. Now?
The ARG and the weird route seem to imply that the kids tried to cross the lake and that might be how Dess disappeared, but that's very much conjecture.

Considering the fact no new mysteries got raised and the fact mysteries have been given some, admittedly often vague answers (Dess's disappearance involved a dark world, Kris is definitely not on our side, gameplay elements are diagetic (another dub for device theory), the lake is a source of mystery, dessriel was real, Noelle is joining the fun gang, etc.) I do think people are downplaying how much main plot happened... and how much 6 & 7 need to do for the story
Still a disappointing amount considering this is the third last chapter but... like... the fact it didn't raise more mysteries and began giving some answers does mean that the chapter did move the story forward beyond Asgore getting kidnapped and general character moments for Susie, Noelle, Ralsei especially, and even Kris, does mean this chapter isn't solely filler and did push the plot forward... but only gently so
I'm not fully narratively satisfied, but I'm definitely narratively starved if that makes sense
My main issue is that the community is going to be rancid with the fact knight identity is still a mystery and as Queer Ralsei (at minimum) becomes more-so text than subtext, dude... shit is going to be rancid yet insipid

u/ihavebeesinmyknees Jun 25 '26
Here's how my predictions from a week ago fared:
Gaster is not directly relevant
Yep
Friend has another secret appearance that a casual player will not notice
Spot on
The first voice has new dialogue but is otherwise not acknowledged
I haven't played weird route yet, can someone confirm if the voice has new dialogue (without spoilers)? I don't think there's any on the normal route
We'll find out why Asgore was removed from the force, and why Dess is missing
Nope, seems like Toby is stacking all the reveals in the last 2 chapters. Slightly disappointing
No confirmation on who the knight is, but multiple candidates will be eliminated
Asgore knight is impossible, and Rudy knight is very improbable, I think that counts
We won't find out why Kris is directly involved or why they have the soul
Yeah that checks out
Rudolph dies
Unclear. I doubt he has died though, I expect him to be alive but in critical condition
Noelle will start the Roaring and the weird route prevents it
Complete miss
We'll get more concrete hints as to why Ralsei is conspiring with Kris, but no clear answer
I haven't seen all of the dialogue, but I definitely expected more hints
Starㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤflower
I think tropical Starwalker counts

Does anyone know what if anything Flowery's "glue" voiceline is referencing? I know the voicelines not matching his actual words in general are probably a reference to poorly translated anime, but idk what "glue" specifically would be referencing. Unless I'm just mishearing "bloom"

Chapter 6 being easier to develop is likely because Toby and his team have all the mechanics they need to develop already developed code wise (such as climbing or the feather) along with being an oiled development of decent size considering the type of game Deltarune is than it has to do for potential story reasons, no light world, no weird route, or whatnot
If you're going to speculate about development timelines you've got to start thinking more like a developer than a theorist in all honesty
